okay, so i live in southern california.

i know a lot of people think we are
allll superficial fake blondes
who have fake boobs and mansions
and get everything we want.

and stuff but it's totally not like that
where i live. i live 5 minutes away from the beach but it's
still not like that!

so what do you think about southern california/or california in general?

I was born and raised in the 50's in Orange County. You could hear the train from 30 miles away and we had orange groves everywhere. We had fields of strawberries and we got to glean them when the pickers were finished and on several years we had a community garden somewhere around 17th st. I loved going to Prentice Park in Santa Ana, and Irvine Park w/ the little train. No homes were out there then. Every kid had a story about getting pooped on by the pidgeons at San Juan Capistrano mission during a school field trip. My brothers and I used to sit on our roof at night and watch the fireworks from Disneyland. I loved the Santa Ana winds. It seemed to invigorate us. We would have a neighborhood baseball game in the street.

As a teen, I would take the bus down Harbor Blvd to the beach. In the late 60's Beach Blvd (Hwy 39?) all the way to Huntington Beach was lined with "head shops" painted with psychedelic art. I wish I'd taken a picture, they didn't last long. The beaches were filled with kids and hippies, not snooty rich folks. The Golden Bear in Huntington headlined Linda Rondstat and the Stone Ponies. Mom and I used to buy fish right from the fisherman's little boat at Newport. They have booths there now. The Crab Cooker in Newport is God's gift to seafood lovers. As kids we spent time playing in tide pools, body surfing the waves, riding bikes, climbing trees, having rotten orange fights, nailing our skates to a board (the first skateboards) and trying not to biff it when rolling down the driveway. Our T.V. programs were wholesome like Engineer Bill and Sheriff John, the Mickey Mouse club, but we didn't spend much time sitting in front of a T.V. and certainly not playing video games or texting.

In the 70's things changed a bit. Many more people moved in and started erecting buildings where the fields and orange groves used to be. We'd always had ethnic diversity and all us white kids learned Spanish, of course, but my Mexican and Black friends spoke English. It got to where you would hear Cambodian or Spanish, or whatever, around you in the stores rather than English so it didn't feel the same. We felt the same unrest that the nation felt, especially after the Watts riots in '65. Pollution got really bad, even out at the beach. Huntington had a chain link fence for god's sake! In Riverside County it was impossible to see 5 miles because of the smog. So in 1980 I decided to raise my own kids in northern Ca near a lake and with lots of play room. I'm glad to say that in visiting south in later years things had gotten cleaned up considerably. It's beautiful again in many parts but there are still too many people, in my opinion.

I didn't mean to turn this into nostalgia time but I guess the point is that you look at everything from your own perspective and through your own eyes of experience. I have met wonderful people all over the world. When Satan is not actively influencing a situation then people generally want to be good and kind. We all love our families and try our best to live life well. When I meet shallow city girls like they depict in the reality programs I have to laugh. My net worth is a couple million dollars but I know that isn't where happiness comes from. Their phoniness comes from insecurity and that is what the nation looks at and judges California by. I've never watched "the housewives of Orange County" but I know the type. And that's what we want the nation to think we are??? Before that it was Duh, Valley Girls. When I was in Dublin, Ireland I was having trouble understanding the waiter's accent. He paused, and said "where are you from?" I told him "California in US" He began his next sentence with a head toss and "so, anyway...." You may be too young to understand why that's funny but I bet older folks you know will get it.

The changes in southern Ca make it unappealing to me to ever live there again but it does have it's own charm and personality, for sure, and it is always changing. Shopping is awesome and you do have every service you could desire and anything is just a quick hop on the freeway away.

Of course, if you want a unique heartbeat to a US city, visit New Orleans. It's a lot like San Francisco. They both still show their history where L.A. has kind of lost it. And the food in both cities! Yum.

BTW, where I live in the Gold Country it oozes charm and history but it is changing too. That's life. Like a skateboard, you ride it or you biff. Thanks for speaking up for our home state :)

How do i get "cute" feet & toes?

I noticed My feet look like I walked from texas to florida barefoot. My toenails are super tiny. & I pick @ on them often. I decided to quit picking them. So now how do make them look cute. Also I cannot wear toerings the interfere with my walking.

Any suggestions other than nail polish?

Firstly, wash your feet real good. Feet get dirty quickly from floors, shoes and socks. Give your feet a nice wash in the shower to get rid of smell and stubborn dirt.

To get rid of dead skin cells, use a foot scrubber or a foot file (can be found at pharmacies or local stores with beauty supplies), and after that, use a deep cleansing cream or gel scrub to really clean out the build up of skin cells.

Give your feet some love! If you want those smooth heels we all are looking for, smear a hand cream or any thick moisturizer on your entire feet. Now, put your feet in plastic bags (yes, trust me even though it sounds moronic) and fasten it gently around your foot with a hair tie (tie it loosely! You do not want to kill the blood flow to your feet). Wear these for an hour or so, while cooking, watching tv or hanging around at home. The reason for this madness is to make the moisturizer absorbe into your skin with heat. By putting the plastic bag on, you are closing the area of your feet to warm them. You would get the same result with socks, only the cream would smear all over.... Not good... Also, this is very practical as you can actually walk around and get something done while waiting. Be careful not to slip though!

If you're having a hard time trying to sustain yourself from picking at your nails, pamper yourself with a pedicure every once in a while. By thinking about wasting the time and money that went into the pedicure, it might keep you from ruining your goregeous feet by picking the nails.

Keep your toenails short and proper with a nail clipper, file the edges and make sure to clean out any dirt that may get under your nails.

Use a nice, good quality nailpolish like O.P.I or Essie to paint your nails in a color to match your outfit or shoes. I recommend not going to bold color wise. Always seal your polish with a clear top coat to get that beautiful shine and protect the color from chipping. If you are into nail art, ask for some cute design that could be worn with anything at a nail salon, or, if you have steady hands and lots of creativity. do it on yourself! You can find tons of ideas and inspiration on youtube if you search for nail art. Cutepolish is a talented youtube user with great nail designs. She does fingernail art, but most of it can be used on toenails as well.

When you've reached your goal, pamper youself by buying a nice pair of shoes (that doesn't hurt your wallet TOO much) which shows off you beautiful feet. If you are comfortable walking in heels, buy a pair that really makes your feet and legs look good. If you'd rather wear flats, buy a pair with open toes or nice details.

Since you aren't a fan of toerings, an ankle bracelet is a great alternative.

What are some cheap classy decorating ideas?

I'm a college student living in an apartment. The walls are a boring white and the blandness is driving me nuts! We can't put holes in the walls so I can't hang anything up. What are some good cheap ideas to decorate the walls? While I may be a college student, I do prefer a more classy, elegant look without overdoing it. I'm going with light green and dark brown for the colors for the living room. Any ideas?

First, I would suggest that you talk to your landlord and ask if you can paint the walls light tan. Often, landlords will allow you to paint at your own expense, as long as they have a chance to approve the color choice. They just don't want bright red. Also, ask about putting nail holes in the walls. It is normal to hang some wall art in an apartment, and maybe you just don't understand what the landlord expects. Usually, they don't want to find 50 nail holes, but a normal quantity is okay.

Having said all of that, my ex-husband always insisted that I paint all of the interior walls white. I used white 2" faux wood blinds (from Home Depot) and white curtains, and I had a white leather sofa, and a white silk duvet on a thick goose down comforter, and lots of white porcelain nick-knacks. The whole house was mostly white with hardwood floors and wood tones in the furniture. It was really pretty! Everyone who visited raved about how beautiful and clean it looked. I had a few decorative elements in assorted colors, and I could bring three or four pink (or red, or yellow, etc.) items into a room and change the color scheme. To make the design interesting I used different textures, different shades of white, etc.

What is the best itinerary for a week in San Francisco?

I'm planning a trip to the Bay area in March, to visit U.C. Berkeley and sight see, and I'm having some trouble nailing down exactly what to do there. My mom and I, I'm only 17, have agreed on going to Berkeley and a day trip to Big Sur, but that's about it. We'd be flying in on a Thursday and departing on the following Friday. This leaves quite a few days unaccounted for...any suggestions? Any advice would be appreciated.

I was thinking of going homemade this year. I personally think these are the best gifts( next to electronices - lol), and have a sentimental value. For my mom I was thinking of a beautiful hand-made clay pot I made in art class, and a homemade beauty with bath scrubs, home remedies, molded soap and cute things like that. What I'm really stumped on is gifts for my little brother and dad. Last year, I got my lil bro a spy kit, and my dad - a cool wood project. This year, I'm not really sure what to get them.
