Answer
Try using nail polish remover. Put on cotton ball, test a spot first using different amounts so that you will not remove finish on floor and door. I did this to remove polish from my carpet,

What shear color should go over top of black nail polish?

Lala

I have put glitter over top of my black nail poslish and its stunning, i get compliments all the time. I love black nail polish for the fall, but i want to spice it up alittle. I already have wet and wild blue polish (chanel knock off) that looks like black.

Answer
i would totally put a sheer color with a tint. like, maybe the glitter could be pinky or something. i got this kit of 7 hard candy mini nail polishes, and it comes with a black, dark purple, and 5 sheer nailpolish colors. (red, pink, a taupy color..etc) i think it would look real cool. you can see it below.

they also have a lot more cool colors, my friend jenny has the light blue polish below. (they also have a sparkly green, pink..)

How long does it take for makeup to expire?

nail polish expire
on Image of 'Varnish for nail insulated on white background'
nail polish expire image

mahrahia

I know that for mascara it has to be replaced every 3 months or at least when it starts to smell funky because of the bacteria growing within the tube.

I want to know how many years on average it would take for these cosmetics to expire:
-Blush
-Eyeshadow
-Lipgloss
-Lipstick
-Nail polish
-Eyeliner

I have makeup from 5 years ago and I hardly use it. It's "the Color Workshop" makeup if that makes it more specific.

Answer
Blush: Cream blush lasts about 3 months, a powder blush will last between 6 months to a year.

Eyeshadow: same as blush. But even with a powder blush it is best to throw them out after about 6 months, lest you risk an eye infection.

Lip gloss: lasts about one year give or take a few months

Lipstick: same as lip gloss

Nail Polish: no expiration date, but once the oil separates from the color it is time to throw that one away.

Eyeliner, a cream eyeliner lasts between 3-6 months, but a stick eyeliner or liquid eyeliner can last until finished or until color/odor change.

I think that the makeup you have has all gone bad after 5 years. And if the makeup is not bad, it is already full of bacteria that can cause a skin infection. Hope this Helps, Best of Luck!!

Is nail polish still good 6 months after an expiry date?

Sandra

I recently bought some nail polish from Mary Kay and noticed that it expired in October 2005 . I didn't even know nail polish had an expiry date. It seems okay , but just curious if the quality will not be as good , whether or not it will last as long, etc. Thanks !
I would like to add another question to this : How long before the expiry date is nail polish manufactured ?

Answer
As long as it is tightly capped, it should last many YEARS past the expiry date. When you (re)open it, stir
the contents if there is any visible separation or stratification. The expiration date is there to encourage you to discard and purchase new and has little to do with the actual shelf life of the product.

im 12 weeks along in my pregnancy and i accidently spilled nail polish in a cut i dont know what to do will it harm the baby? ughh i dont want to lose the baby. what should i do?

Answer
when the baby is born, because of the pre-exposure to nail polish toxin, it will be addicted to smoking nail polish. the only way to counter this effect is to imediately after birth, isolate the baby from the toxin and hope it doesn't relapse later in life. Good luck

What do you do with all those food containers from the grocery store once they are empty?

noonecanne

The cottage cheese, sour cream, yogurt, deli and similar containers.

Answer
I used to save them till I ran out of room. Now I only save them if I have a reason to, like I use some for spools of thread and small sewing stuff, some I use for earings and necklaces (or for storing them). I use the little pudding cups for paint (for art painting) and for alcohol (like if I'm trying to remove something from matrial), and I recently used a container to put glaze in (before that glue) to use with a brush to brush onto a jigsaw puzzle for saving. I also cut off the top of the quart plastic bottles and use it for pouring kitty litter from the bag into a plastic container with a handle, and I use the bottom part of the quart plastic bottle for storing pencils or straws or for putting plants in so the water from them won't ruin my furniture. I too keep nuts, bolts, screws and nails in those plastics that have a good lid. There are white milk containers that are neat looking and I use those as vases for fresh and fake flowers. I also fill those white milk containers with water and keep them in the freezer so that if I need to bring back meat from the grocery store on a very hot day I can keep the meat cold till I get home. But I also reuse tthose white milk containers as I keep tap water cool then when I go for a drive on a hot day I pull out that cold water and take it with me to keep cool in the car. I use the containers from Kool-aid or orange drink as drinking glasses because they have a different lip to them that keeps the drink in the glass and off the rug. I also have a thousand uses for zip plastic bags.

What to ask for for Christmas ?

How do i keep my nails white?

nail polish 1950s
on THE DINNING SISTERS ~ ONCE IN A WHILE ~ 1950
nail polish 1950s image

My nails grow quite fast and when they are long i love them. Then after a day they turn yellow and they chip. How can I make them whiter and stronger?

Answer
Step 1
Instead of spending $20 to $40 for a manicure every 1-2 weeks, you can absolutely take care of your hands yourself. Healthy fingernails start with good habits...especially when you are at home taking care of your everyday responsibilities.

Here's how to start.

Every morning, after you brush your teeth, apply hand lotion before you even make your coffee or the kids' breakfast and lunch!

Step 2
Rub the hand lotion into your cuticles.

Step 3
Before washing dishes or cleaning the floor, etc., apply more hand lotion and then put on rubber gloves. It may sound 1950s but it absolutely will benefit your skin and fingernails. The chemicals used for cleaning will damage your skin and fingernails, so a good pair of rubber gloves will prevent that, and rubber gloves last for years.

Step 4
Always avoid putting your hands in very hot water....this also damages the hands' delicate skin and fingernails.

Step 5
Gently file your nails in one direction from left to right, each day after your shower or bath, when your nails are softest. By filing in one direction, avoiding the see-saw, back and forth motion, you will put less strain on the base of your fingernails.

Step 6
File away any snags that might form on your fingernails. These can lead to breakage.

Step 7
Keep a bottle of Sally Hansen Hard As Nails clear strengthener in your car...Then, when you are sitting in traffic or waiting for your children to come out of school, etc., apply one quick coat to your nails. This way, you won't have the strong fumes in your home, and you can remember to apply it every day! If you apply one coat each day, you most likely will never have to remove any coats due to chipping. This will enable you to avoid the use of acetone nail polish removers, which are drying to the fingernails and unhealthy for the cuticles.

Step 8
After just one week, you will most likely notice how nicely your fingernails are growing, and how the color of the nail tip is looking whiter. This means your fingernails are beginning to thrive!

Step 9
About once per week, trim your nails with the clippers after your shower or bath, and apply hand lotion and rub it in the cuticle areas.

Step 10
Always, always avoid artificial nails of all styles. These essentially weaken the natural fingernail because they cover it, preventing it from breathing and receiving sunlight. Mold can develop under the artificial nail, and when the nail tip is removed, the natural fingernail is tissue-thin and generally yellow and weak. This condition is painful AND unattractive. With properly cared-for natural nails, most people will think your nails are professionally maintained!

Step 11
Remember the hand lotion every morning is key! This method will only cost you about $6 per month for the lotion and nail coating! Compare this with the expense of weekly or bi-weekly manicures, plus the hassle of driving there and waiting for your turn! You'll be so glad you cut the cost, and your nails will look healthy and strong as a result.

I spent a lot of time on this. I hope i helped! =) Take care.

What do sealents do for your teeth? What are veneers? How do they put them on your teeth?

MRose

I'm thinking about getting sealents because i just had my third cavity filled, and it makes me mad that im getting cavities, because i take really good care of my teeth.

so what are the benifits of sealents, but im not completely sure of what they are. whats the difference between them and veneers?

will sealents help prevent cavities? is it worth it to get them? how do they put them on? my dentist said something about drilling... but i could have been mistaken.

Answer
A dental sealant is a thin plastic film painted on the chewing surfaces of molars and premolars (the teeth directly in front of the molars). Sealants have been shown to be highly effective in the prevention of cavities. They were developed through dental research in the 1950s and first became available commercially in the early 1970s. The first sealant was accepted by the American Dental Association Council on Dental Therapeutics in 1972.

How effective are sealants?
Scientific studies have proven that properly applied sealants are 100 percent effective in protecting the tooth surfaces from caries. Because sealants act as a physical barrier to decay, protection is determined by the sealants' ability to adhere to the tooth. As long as the sealant remains intact, small food particles and bacteria that cause cavities cannot penetrate through or around a sealant. In fact, research has shown that sealants actually stop cavities when placed on top of a slightly decayed tooth by sealing off the supply of nutrients to the bacteria that causes a cavity. Sealant protection is reduced or lost when part or all of the bond between the tooth and sealant is broken. However, clinical studies have shown that teeth that have lost sealants are no more susceptible to tooth decay than teeth that were never sealed.

How are sealants applied?
Sealant application involves cleaning the surface of the tooth and rinsing the surface to remove all traces of the cleaning agent. An etching solution or gel is applied to the enamel surface of the tooth, including the pits and grooves. After 15 seconds, the solution is thoroughly rinsed away with water. After the site is dried, the sealant material is applied and allowed to harden by using a special curing light. Other sealants are applied and allowed to harden much the same way nail polish is applied to fingernails. Sealant treatment is painless and could take anywhere from five to 45 minutes to apply, depending on how many teeth need to be sealed. Sealants must be applied properly for good retention.

How long will a sealant last?
Sealants should last five years, but can last as long as 10 years. One study reported that seven years after application, an impressive 49 percent of treated teeth were still completely covered. Sealants should not be considered permanent. Regular dental check-ups are necessary to monitor the sealants' bond to the tooth.

Who should receive sealant treatment?
Children, because they have newly erupted, permanent teeth, receive the greatest benefit from sealants. The chewing surfaces of a child's teeth are most susceptible to cavities and the least benefitted by fluoride. Surveys show that approximately two-thirds of all cavities occur in the narrow pits and grooves of a child's newly erupted teeth because food particles and bacteria cannot be cleaned out. Other patients also can benefit from sealant placement, such as those who have existing pits and grooves susceptible to decay. Research has shown that almost everybody has a 95 percent chance of eventually experiencing cavities in the pits and grooves of their teeth.

Are sealants covered by insurance?
Although insurance benefits for sealant procedures have increased considerably, coverage is still minimal. The trend is toward expanded coverage of this benefit, especially as companies start to realize that sealants are a proven preventive technique. This preventive measure can help reduce future dental expenses and protect the teeth from more aggressive forms of treatment.

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size or length.

Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are thinner and require removal of less of the tooth surface before placement. You will need to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you with your dentist.

What Types of Problems Do Dental Veneers Fix?

Veneers are routinely used to fix:

Teeth that are discolored â either because of root canal treatment; stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride or other causes; or the presence of large resin fillings that have discolored the tooth
Teeth that are worn down
Teeth that are chipped or broken
Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped (for example, have craters or bulges in them)
Teeth with gaps between them (to close the space between these teeth)
What's the Procedure for Getting a Dental Veneer?

The procedure usually requires three trips to the dentist â one for a consultation and two to make and apply the veneers. One tooth or many teeth can simultaneously undergo the veneering process described below.

Diagnosis and treatment planning. This first step involves active participation between you and your dentist. Explain to your dentist the result that you are trying to achieve. During this appointment your dentist will examine your teeth to make sure dental veneers are appropriate for you and discuss what the procedure will involve and some of its limitations. He or she also may take X-rays and possibly make impressions of your mouth and teeth.
Preparation. To prepare a tooth for a veneer, your dentist will remove about ½ millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface, which is an amount nearly equal to the thickness of the veneer to be added to the tooth surface. Before trimming off the enamel, you and your dentist will decide the need for a local anesthetic to numb the area. Next, your dentist will make a model or impression of your tooth. This model is sent out to a dental laboratory, which in turn constructs your veneer. It usually takes 1 to 2 weeks for your dentist to receive the veneers back from the laboratory. For very unsightly teeth, temporary dental veneers can be placed for an additional cost.
Bonding. Before the dental veneer is permanently cemented to your tooth, your dentist will temporarily place it on your tooth to examine its fit and color. He or she will repeatedly remove and trim the veneer as needed to achieve the proper fit; the veneer color can be adjusted with the shade of cement to be used. Next, to prepare your tooth to receive the veneer, your tooth will be cleaned, polished and etched â which roughens the tooth to allow for a strong bonding process. A special cement is applied to the veneer and the veneer is then placed on your tooth. Once properly position on the tooth, your dentist will apply a special light beam to the dental veneer, which activates chemicals in the cement causing it to harden or cure very quickly. The final steps involve removing any excess cement, evaluating your bite and making any final adjustments in the veneer as necessary. Your dentist may ask you to return for a follow-up visit in a couple of weeks to check how your gums are responding to the presence of your veneer and to once again examine the veneer's placement.
What Are the Advantages of Dental Veneers?

Veneers offer the following advantages:

They provide a natural tooth appearance.
Gum tissue tolerates porcelain well.
Porcelain veneers are stain resistant.
The color of a porcelain veneer can be selected such that it makes dark teeth appear whiter.
Veneers offer a conservative approach to changing a tooth's color and shape-veneers generally don't require the extensive shaping prior to the procedure that crowns do, yet offer a stronger, more aesthetic alternative to bonding.
What Are the Disadvantages of Dental Veneers?

The downside to dental veneers include:

The process is not reversible.
Veneers are more costly than composite resin bonding.
Veneers are usually not repairable should they chip or crack.
Because enamel has been removed, your tooth may become more sensitive to hot and cold foods and beverages.
Veneers may not exactly match the color of your other teeth. Also, the veneer's color cannot be altered once in place. If you plan on whitening your teeth, you need to do so before getting veneers.
Though not likely, veneers can dislodge and fall off. To minimize the chance of this occurring, do not bite your nails; chew on pencils, ice, or other hard objects; or otherwise put pressure on your teeth.
Teeth with veneers can still experience decay, possibly necessitating full coverage of the tooth with a crown.
Veneers are not a good choice for individuals with unhealthy teeth (for example, those with decay or active periodontal disease), weakened teeth (as a result of decay, fracture, large dental fillings) or for those who have an inadequate amount of existing enamel on the tooth surface.
Individuals who clench and grind their teeth are poor candidates for porcelain veneers, as these activities can cause the veneers to crack or chip.
How Long Do Dental Veneers Last?

Veneers generally last between 5 and 10 years. After this time, the veneers would need to be replaced.

Do Dental Veneers Require Special Care?

No. Continue to follow good oral hygiene practices including brushing and flossing as you normally would.

Even though porcelain veneers resist stains, your dentist may recommend that you avoid stain-causing foods and beverages (for example, coffee, tea or red wine).

Are There Alternatives to Dental Veneers?

Yes, bondings and crowns. Veneers offer a nice intermediate option. Veneers may be best suited for individuals who want to change the shape of their teeth more than just a little bit-as is done with bonding-but not enough to require a crown.

How Much Do Veneers Cost?

Costs vary depending on what part of the country you live in and on the extent of your procedure. Generally, veneers range in cost from $500 to $1300 per tooth. The cost of veneers is not generally covered by insurance. To be certain, check with your specific dental insurance company.

How do I organize my nail polish?

I LOVE painting my nails, I'm obsessed with nail art. I have over 70 bottles of nail polish (I know that's a lot) but I have it in a box right now. I tried putting stickers on them and painting the stickers so I know what color is what. I've tried separating it by color but all the bottles are different sizes and shapes so it's complicated to keep it together. I want a DIY way to organize it along with all my tools such as dotting tools, nail wheels and what not. Is there anything I could buy at like Walmart and Target that can keep my nail polish neat and organized? I don't want a caboodle, I can't find one big enough to fit everything. I want to be able to stand my nail polish up, and have tiny compartments. I've tried using a box and cutting up straight pieces to make my own compartments but it isn't working.

Answer
You could try going to Wal-mart and finding colorful cute boxes there to put your nail polish. I am obsessed with painting my nails too, i also have many different shapes and sizes bottles of nail polish. I organize them by the brand the nail polish is, or put the smaller bottles on the front while the taller bottles are in the back, Or like i said before, you could try going to Wal-mart or Target and find Organizers there like a wall rack, nail polish makeup cases, and for an easy find to find you nail polishes, add stickers of the color that's in the container, hope this helps ! (:

What are the best brands and colors of nail polish to use for water marbling?

Sara

I've tried water marbling a few times and have never been successful. The nail polishes I've tried are Sally Hanson Xtreme Wear, N.Y.C, and a few different Avon Colors. I use Sally Hanson Diamond Strength Base Coat, and Revlon No-Chip Top Coat. Every time I go to design the pattern in the water, the polish sticks to the Tooth Pick, and then I have to start, and I'm wasting SO MUCH nail polish! Any tips? Thanks!

Answer
Oooh I've done this. In fact, I am about to do some marble art now for college tomorrow lol. I'm really not usually into nail art and can never normally do stuff like this successfully, but for some reason, marble art has come easy to me. . . I'm braggin, I know, but this is a huge achievement for me =P

Believe it or not but I use really cheap nail varnish and it works. I use George (Asda's brand or Walmart if you're in America) nail polish and it works a treat. I also use Rimmel.

Your problem may not actually be with your nail polish though. It may be that your taking too long to do the swirls. When I do it, the polish usually hardens almost straight away. The trick is to be quick and not let it set. And when you swirl it, don;t start right from the outer colour. Kinda start in the middle out. If that makes sense. Also, I use a straightened hair grip to swirl mine.

Hope this helps and all the best!

How much make up wuld you buy your thirteen year old daughter for christmas?

nail polish in eye image
Q. I am asking for some tinted moisturizer, mascara, a make up box with eye shadow lipstick nail polish and eye liner, and a lip gloss palette with eye shadow. Would you buy this for you thirteen year old daughter?
Would you let her wear make up to school?
Why?
Sorry, would.

Answer
Too much make up.Wouldn't have a problem with the tinted moisturiser or mascara, small lip/eyeshadow palette and nail polish (depends on the colours - natural, pale and pretty is fine but not bold and bright) but she doesn't need a make up box on top of it,and definitely too young to be wearing lipstick and eye liner. She could wear moisturiser and clear mascara with a neutral eyeshadow and a tinted lip balm that matches the natural lip colour as close as possible to school but that would be it - young skin doesn't need a lot,and young girls tend not to know when they are overdone

Should I let some girls give me a makeover?

John

I am a 15 year old guy and a couple of my female friends want to give me a makeover. (Nail polish, eye stuff, etc...) I know them enough to know that they wont take pictures or tell anyone but I still am not sure if I should let them do it. Advice please?

Answer
haha it should be fun! i'd make you do it if i were one of them, however, who knows if they'll let you live it down. and also, if you give up and let them give you a makeover, you'd probably end up doing anything for them, because what else is there to sacrifice? (lightheartedly speaking)
even though i would think it would be fun, you have to consider what you're comfortable with, and if you want to give up your "manhood" haha but if you honestly cared less you would have already done it. and i love the fact that you said 'eye stuff'

Where to find nail art supplies?

I am intrested in nail art. Dose anyone know a goood website where I can find a good selection in nail art supplies (jewls, flowers, rhinostones, ect.) relitevily chep? Please anwser.

Answer
www.dollarnailart.com

great source for beginners. their rhinestones aren't the greatest of quality, though. i get mine on ebay, and they're usually labeled as 'korean rhinestones'. they aren't as sparkly as swarovski crystals, but they're much better than other acrylic gems.

for stripers, those bottles of colored polish that have long thin brushes used for creating lines, i find that a lot of cheap mom-and-pop owned beauty supply stores (not like a sally's) have them for only 2-3 bucks each. you shouldn't have to pay more than that for them.

also, acrylic craft paint is PERFECT for nail art. it's water-based, so if you make a mistake you can just wipe it off before it dries. use a tiny paintbrush or even a toothpick to draw designs with them. they're only like 45 cents or so per color at walmart. just remember to seal the art with a layer of topcoat.

How should I get my nails done?

Kaybay<3

I want to get my nails done but i'm not sure if I should have them painted, airbrushed, or get nail art. I was thinking maybe just a white french tip but that's so plain. Maybe even a yellow tip with a glitter line? something cute, maybe even summery. Any Ideas?

And should I get acrylics, pink & whites, or gels?

Answer
I would say Biogels!!!
They're lush and don't smudge/flake!!!
Help me out here? I'm in a dilemma!!!

2nd friend is really good at art and plays volleyball shes really random and loves hello kitty and anime and she likes random YouTube videos and loves animals. Her favorite colors are green pink and orange

3rd friend is quieter. She used to play basketball and she's super smart. She lovessssssssssssss video games and twinkies and food in general especially cultural food and just started horse back riding and her favorite colors green

I know I'll figure out what to get them eventually but my past3 ideas fell through so any suggestions?

Answer
Friend 1: get her the movie "The Princess Bride" (my personal fav)
Friend 2: depends on what you mean by "she likes art", if you mean she likes to MAKE art, get her supplies for whatever type of art she likes to make (example: if she paints, new canvases and and an easel) otherwise, I'm not sure, not enough details about this friend.
Friend 3: get her an NES (Nintendo entertainment system) with Battletoads (hard to find, but awesome gift for a true gamer)

How is the hello kitty on these nails are made?

Whan was nail polish invented and when did it become common?

When was nail polish invented?
When did it become a common female practice to paint nails?
Who (and what culture?) popularized this practice?

Answer
Nail polish originated around 3000 BC in China. Michelle Menard invented the modern nail polish in the 1920âs. Flapper girls and later, Hollywood starlets wore bright red. Pin-up girls such as Lana Turner always had on the requisite red lips and red nails for photo sessions and walks down the red carpet. Polish is actually similar to car paint. It requires a remover made of acetone. In Britain, nail polish is called nail varnish.

From WikiAnswers.com
In the 1930s the car industry boomed. New types of strongly opaque pigments were used in vehicle paints. This technology was adopted by the brothers Charles und Joseph Revlon, who developed the first nail varnish in 1932. Thanks to this invention they laid the foundations for the cosmetic company Revlon.
