Can you make money from martial arts tournaments?

Marvin

So I was wondering if you could make money off tournaments for martial arts and, how much? I don't mean tournaments for forms and, stuff but, actual hand to hand , person against person. Also what are the average prize amounts for 1st, 2nd and, 3rd?

Answer
You could make some money at one time on the NASKA national circuit but those days have been gone now for some time. Back in the late 80s and early 90s when I first started competing on the national circuit you could win a few hundred dollars for winning your division in the adult black belt divisions in forms, weapons, and fighting. Then you would compete against other adult black belt division winners for grand champion and that would carry several hundred dollars if you won that. Sometimes this got up into a thousand dollars or more and they started having some larger purses of $2,500-3,000 for grand. Big corporate sponsorship helped by contributing money for this and one such company was Trans World Oil. Those first few years I did not win so much though because I was just starting out competing at that level but in the 90s I was winning several hundred dollars some weekends and competing for grand a number of times since I competed in all three things before the money dropped out.

Then in 93 all the national tournament directors in NASKA decided that they would stop offering big money and Trans World Oil pulled out. When that happened the money dropped to little or nothing for winning your division and only a few or several hundred for grand. Many of us still continued to compete for the love of competing though and testing and matching our skills against others who also competed. At the same time many of us black belts also had our own schools so any expenses for all this were tax deductible and I would rack up $4-$5 K per year in expenses for competing on the national circuit. That was what I did rather than have a boat or motorcycle or hunt and fish like some guys I knew did.

These days there is very little money in it unless you can nail down a number one place in one of those areas of competition and maybe get a promotional and advertising contract from an equipment company like Century.

For the tournament type format to work for something like full contact, or MMA the State Athletic Commissions would have to change or relax their regulations. Currently those regulations limit how many times you can fight, how many rounds, and when you can fight again if you are knocked unconscious. A tournament type format will only work if the rounds are limited to three or less, it is at the amateur level (which means no prize money is offered), and it runs the course of several days like what you have with amateur boxing and the national championships or the Gold Gloves. This is why you don't see the tournament type format used in this country for things like Muay Thai, MMA, and full contact K-1 type fighting like you might see in other countries at the professional level.

In those countries you can make some money but you are also fighting and competing against some of the best in the world usually and there can only be one winner.

is there any art ideas using with expired makeup?

Andara

my mom has a big collection of makeup form the 80s and the 90s. includes nail polish, lipstick, foundation, powders, etc. instead of throwing it out, i thought i can make art out of it.

Answer
Sure - you could paint a portrait or abstract with it on a canvas or even a leather jacket then spray with a seal coat of clear varnish. Good Luck!

Ashley

Uuuuugh, I accidentally spilt red nail polish on my blue rug. How do I get it out? I've been trying acetone for 10 mins now and it's just not working. Helppppp.

Answer
Oh you poor girl. I can't believe that acetone isn't working. Another type of nail polish remover (that I have) is an oil.The drug store should cary it. Mine is called "Once Removed" .You could try it. If you can't find that try orange oil . It's a cleaner.Lacquer thinner from a hardware store might do it but it also may ruin your rug. Uhh. The only other alternative is to cut it out with scissors but only if it is not a looped berber carpet. Hope this helps, good luck.

Is there a way to make bad nail polish look better on your nails?

MuSic FaNa

So I have this nail polish, and I can't seem to paint my nails smoothly with it. I was careful, and slow running the brush through my nail, but it still came out bad. I know that the problem is probably of both, the polish itself, and the brush, but is there a way to make the nail polish look better on my nail??? Thanks in advance!! Oh and I used the brand KleanColor Nail Lacquer.

Answer
If the nail polish is thick and clumpy put it in the refrigerator for a bit to get it smooth again, as for the brush you might want to soak a cotton ball in nail polish remover and clean off the brush to make sure there's no clumped polish or dried polish remaining on it.

How do I clean a pinhole for a pinhole camera?

Lyd (:

We bought this really neat DIY pinhole camera from the MoMA in New York, and while we were assembling it, my fingers accidentally touched the pinhole. We can't see ANYTHING through the pinhole now; there's spots everywhere.

How do you get fingerprints off of a highly delicate pinhole?
Well, it's a sheet with a pinhole embedded in it. (It was too tiny for me to see it, so I couldn't help touching the spot.) I don't really know how to explain it; but the directions for the P-Sharan STD 35, (the model we got), say that it is impossible to take photographs with the pinhole in the way that it is. I'm just wondering if there's some way to properly clean it.

Answer
As someone already said here - the pinhole itsself is a tiny hole which cannot get dirty.
Possibly the foil where the hole is in can get dirty but fingerprints on the foil do not effect the picture. With bare eye you won't see much through the tiny hole anyway as it is most probably less than 1mm (0.04 inch)
It might be possible that there is some dirt covering the hole in that case I suggest that you try to simply blow it away or use some solvent on a Q-Tip if the foil is metal (lighter fluid, nail polish remover, denaturated alcohol).
Do NOT use a pin or something to poke into the hole. It will ruin the edges and most likely also widen the hole which will result in less picture quality.
Hold the foil against a light source (window) if you see a tiny point of light in the middle it should be OK.
As said before - fingerprints on the foil are no problem as the light passes only through the tiny hole.

provide an example of an artificial nail and nail art but not sure what else we can give people for a free sample of our work, products .... ?

Answer
It depends on how you want to market yourself and your business. Are you trying to attract brides to do their nails (then you seem like a nail salon) or are you marketing packages for the bridal party - like a day of pampering which includes massage or facial and a mani/pedi? Brochures, pamphlets and information about your services and prices are important. People may only give a glance at your 'samples', but a take home brochure may have them thinking about your company. Offer specials for brides who book a 'spa day' with a minimum of bridesmaids.

They can be made by Fimo Clay or Polymer Clay.

Where to get FIMO canes online?

Michelle

Hey, I'm kinda interested in nail art and stuff so i was wondering where I could buy fimo canes online for a cheap price and the website must also deliver items to Malaysia coz that's where I am! :) plus, it must be trustworthy and not a scam

Answer
Ok, got it! There are many online sites but I've used this site several times to buy fimo canes and its definitely a legitimate site. Whether or not she ships to your country, I don't know. May I suggest asking her? She's a wonderful woman, and her canes are high quality hand made creations for a very reasonable price. She also has a selection of raw canes available if that interests you?

http://www.catherienarts.com

If you're new to using fimo canes in nail art, may I suggest viewing online tutorials to help you with the basic concepts of both slicing the canes and ways to incorporate them into your nail art? When slicing the canes, Ive found warming them slightly helps alot since the canes are normally hard as a rock! Also, be sure to use a very sharp tool but always be careful with any cutting tools so you don't injure yourself. As a rule of thumb, the thinner you can slice them, the better. Or, simply purchase pre-sliced canes. I've had good results slicing canes with a single edged razor blade. It may take a little practice to get the hang of slicing canes but it gets easier with practice. When I say thin slices, I mean very thin because thick slices wont work well at all and will be very noticable and lumpy on the nail.
I hope this helps. Have fun!!!

I have a white hard silicon phone case and it's all dirty so I wanted to put glitter on it, but I don't have any mod podge glue. So I was thinking about using glitter nail polish.
And I see a lot of people put all different types of nail polishes on their plastic phone cases, so would it work the same on a hard silicon case?
And this may sound stupid.. But.. Would it make a difference if I put like a clear top coat nail polish on after I put the glitter nail polish on?
Because a few people that I've asked have said that the glitters just gonna come off every time I touch it.
So does anyone have any suggestions?
Because I don't wanna try it and end up ruining a perfectly fine phone case. ;P
Thanks to anyone that helps.(:

yes but they will wear off eventually. just buy a new phone case

I have a huge bad habit that I bite my nails. They r bitten till the bleed :( I have tried to stop but I just can't :( how do I stop? And what r some tips to get my nails to grow faster and longer? Thx! And I have already tried nail polish (witch looks really bad on my nails for them being so short), a mixture that made them taste bad, a squishy ball to squish when I want to bite, ect. I need the big guns! Nothing that costs that much money though please! Thanks!!!

Answer
I was a nail biter for 25 years, but you need to find some kind of therapy because that is considered OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. When you dropped one problem, you end up with a new problem.

Number one: keep your fingers occupied. Take up a new hobby, also try chewing gum - sugarfree pref.
(Another reason why I love to type, & a TC on YA!)

Second: try to make your fingers look nice, let them grow. That way you'll have a good reason NOT to bite them.

Growing nails comes from: your good genes, good nail care, and all the healthy foods you eat everyday from Mother Nature.
Beauty products don't make nails grow. Eating does. Babies can do that just by drinking their milk. People giving advice on YA! should list their sources.

You really are what you eat. If you're eating all the healthy foods from Mother Nature - not made by man or woman or supplements from GNC, your hair, nails, teeth, and the rest of your body will benefit too. You get all your vitamins & minerals from your diet. Your hair's fine. You're health's fine, so are your nails. Made-by man vitamins can do more harm than good. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesnât have to approve supplements â no agency in the United States does. Because of inadequate quality control and inspection, supplements contaminated with heavy metals, pesticides, or prescription drugs have been sold to unsuspecting consumers. And FDA rules covering manufacturing quality donât apply to the companies that supply herbs, vitamins, and other raw ingredients.
Beginning in February 2008, they experienced one symptom after another: diarrhea, joint pain, HAIR LOSS, lung problems, and fingernails and toenails that fell off. FDA has received numerous reports of harm associated with the use of these products, including stroke, liver injury, kidney failure, heart palpitations, and death. 3-15-11
Do NOT TAKE SUPPLEMENTS without your doctor's OK.

My Hubby, my SIL and their mom ALL have the same nails and break easily and hubby and I have eaten the same foods for over 39 years. Then it's from your genes.

Get a manicure to a good salon, or do them yourself. You can protect them by using one of those plastic gloves. I use gloves often: for chores, gardening, handling papers, going outside during winter, spring & fall, and kitchen, painting, crafting, etc. That way I don't have to wash my hands often.

1 x Dappen dish
1 x Nail brush holder 12 x Nail glitter powders
12 x Nail stripe

what else do i need..apart from colours oh and i already have the uv light thing yano:)

Answer
You follow these steps for beautiful UV Gel Nails At Home....

WASH YOUR HANDS! Sanitation is very important. You don't want debris under your UV Gel or to have any kind of bacteria under your gel that can cause a infection with your natural nail.

Push back cuticles and cut away excess cuticle if needed.

Lightly buff the shine from your natural Nail. Wipe clean with Alcohol.

Glue on false tips if your are using them. Lightly buff the shine from the tip once the glue has dried to help the UV Gel stick. Once again wipe with alcohol

Apply your UV Gel Primer and let dry. Just a little dab on the natural nail plate. This is to help the UV Gel better adhere to your nail

Apply a thin coat of UV Gel Builder to your nail. DO NOT GET ON YOUR SKIN/CUTICLE! Place hand into the lamp for a flash 2 minute cure.

Apply 2nd coat of UV Builder Gel to the nail. Again, DO NOT GET ON YOUR SKIN/CUTICLE! Place hand in lamp for another 2 minute flash cure.

If you are applying a soak off polish, glitter, etc do so now

If you are happy with your nail go ahead and apply your UV Top Coat and do a full 3 minute cure. IF you are not happy with the nail, start by rubbing away the inhibition layer of gel with alcohol. Lightly buff away any imperfections you are unhappy with. Once finished clean the nail with alcohol and then apply your UV Top coat with 3 minute cure.

Clean all nails with alcohol to remove the uncured gel. This is called an inhibition layer.

Finish your nails with a cuticle oil to rehydrate the skin after the UV exposure. Rub gently into the cuticles.

Enjoy your beautiful nails for up to two weeks! From your list I didn't see cuticle oil, alcohol,

I'm inviting 25-30 people & most of my friends have bowling parties around where I live.. I need to get creative, I don't have a huge yard and 25-30 people is a lot for my yard. My last resort is bowling, anyone want to help me out? There isn't much in my town -_-

Answer
I'm 15 and I love birthday parties! And I certainly know what it's like to live in a small town where you can't do much. So I'll try to give you ideas.
A good place to start, if you want to do something creative, is to choose a theme,
For my 14th I had a pirate theme; my friends and I slept in tents outside and had a treasure hunt all around the farm I lived on, but since you don't have room, good themes would be;

Chocolate- I did this for my 13th, we went to a shop in town were they sell handmade chocolates and they let my friends and I walk through the kitchen and try making chocolates. Then we went to my house and did a blind taste test and everyone had to score different chocolate bars without knowing which brand or flavour they were.

Art- have some friends come round and have a table set up with paint and mini canvases. You can also do stuff like tie die and even cooking

Glamour sleepover- (If your a girl) Decorate your bedroom with a lot of pink and purple tissue paper and then have your friends over, they set up their beds, and paint each other's nails and do make up. I've heard of somebody who had a professional come and give them massages.

Sports party- have everyone meet at a park or at a stadium and spend the whole afternoon playing games.

Need help with christmas list?

Alannah H

I'm making my christmas list but I'm not sure what to put on there. I'm 13, I already have an iPhone 4S and I'm getting my upgrade next year, so not a phone. And it can't be a pet because I already have two puppies, I'm very girly, and my favorite color is pink. There is no price limit so suggest anything!

Answer
christmas is about being with family not what you can get. But that doesn't mean people don't like the gifts and of course we don't want a pair of socks lol. I would suggest things you really like, not what can I get, but what you really would like for the year. Do some soul searching.

I can give you some ideas on how to go about it. such as....

maybe something new for your room, a new lamp, or blankets, maybe a statue of something you're really into. Give you something new and fresh for the new year. IF you like to read, some kids do think of what books you like to read for the year.

maybe you like to add some new cool jewelry for the year or a new kind of outfit or wardrobe for 2013. if you're allowed to wear makeup add that to your list. I do and I never have to get makeup or nail polish throughout the year. saves me loads of money, that now can be used for something else.

there is always gift cards as well, it's great to have money for something you see later in the year that you really want but don't have the money for.

New jacket, gloves, hat, scarf. always makes me feel great after christmas to show off my new winter stuff.

Do you need a new bike, skates,

how about cd's new stuff has came out this year. A lot of new bands old bands making new cd's.
do you like to draw, maybe some art stuff, or an easel.

Think about what could I use this year, what do I like to add or have for this year. It can be anything from your room to your hair, clothes, to your hobbies, outdoor activities, to something you really want.

How do you make orange stick attached to false nail for water marble nail art. What do you used nail glue?

Answer
I don't understand... You put a white coat for more vibrant colors. Get a bowl with water, drop about 3 drops of each color you want. If you don't want nail polish on your skin, put tape around it.. Then dip it in. I don't think you use nail glue for water marble? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9A_9FH7e-A

Answer
Sally Hansen and China Glaze work best, although sally Hansen is cheaper. OPI works efficiently, but doesn't transfer to the nail as easy as sally Hansen and China glaze. Essie formula is too thick and doesn't swirl well in the water

Hope this helped and good luck :)

I'm redecorating my teenage girl bedroom and I need help?

Janet

I am a teenage girl (13) and I'm moving into a bigger room. (It's like a mini-master bedroom,lol.)
I don't know the size of the bedroom but if it helps it has two windows and four walls.
I'm not buying new furniture except a desk and maybe seating.
I really want to decorate a room I will never outgrow till I move out.
Here are my questions:
1. What colors should I paint on the walls? (that matches everything)
2. What colors should I paint on the furniture? (that matches everything)
3. Are there any cute bedding out there? (preferably an inexpensive bed in a bag or quilt)
4. Are wall stickers recommended? List all of the pros and cons.
5. Are there any cool but cheap posters I could buy?
6. Are there any interesting area/accent rugs?
7. How can I organize my room?
8. Any other creative ways to decorate my room?

To make answering my question easier, I will tell you a little about myself.
I love animals especially dogs, cats, rabbits, and horses.
I am very passionate about writing stories.
I love to read, watch movies and TV shows, do art, and use the computer.
I am not necessarily a girly-girl but not a tomboy. (Though, I have more tomboy in me.)
I hate jewerly, makeup, and nail polish. (Dunno that would help with room makeovers.)
I am not into music, sports, and things like that.
I love my stuffed animals and I love candy =D

Thanks for answering and sorry if this is too long.

So fun to decorate and make a statement about you.Have plenty of shelves for all the books and stuffed animals. Iwill put some sites on for you.

What is fun about choosing a neutral color is that you can add pops of color in pillows, bedspreads, lamps, through rugs etc.

Using color wheels are fun and you can get ideas here. Start with your neutral and use the wheel to show pops of color

How can I protect my glass nail polish bottles?

MooMooMilk

I'm going on a trip and in taking quite a few nail polishes and I'm keeping them in a plastic sandwich bag. What can I put inside the bag maybe on the sides as a cushion? Like what you would use for packages, packing peanuts. Or should I put them in a brown paper bag? Any advice to protect easily-breakable things?

Answer
Nail polish bottles are pretty thick for their size. I doubt you'll have a problem with breakage. But if you're worried, how about wrapping them in something you're already taking, such as socks or underwear? It won't take up extra space and they're thick enough to provide some very good protection. Still keep them in a plastic bag, though, maybe just a larger one.

Best of luck.

Mary Ann

I really want to start like a beauty channel on youtube. You know like talia castellano and krazyrayray and all the other gurus. I dont know how to start it though. Like what kind of video should I start with? What tags should I tag my video with? I'm awesome at nail art and hair and I'm pretty good at makeup. I think I'm gonna do vlogging too. how should I start? Should I make like an intro video like telling stuff about me and stuff? Should I start with a tutorial or a tag or what?

Answer
Well, for starting, try an intro tutorial. It would be really cool and gets more viewers than just introducing yourself. And tag stuff like beauty, nails, makeup, etc.
Its actually pretty easy. Many gurus have started like that by doing an intro tutorials. Like for example, cutepolish, or bebexo.

What else can I do to become a thirteen year old artist?

Shelby

Ok so basically im told im a thirteen year old prodigy, I'm on flickr, deviantart, fine art America, ive won many competitions and I've entered many calls for submission. Are there any other ideas about how to get noticed? I'm thinking about making a YouTube channel for speed drawings, drawing tutorials, painting tutorials, and nail tutorials. I'm also probably going to make a blog. If there is anyone with any other ideas I'd love to hear them.

Answer
Sounds like you've already got good ideas, but find other artists. When you're young people will not recognize you unless you have a group. If you're really involved in art try to see if there are any art academy's you can get into for high school. I'm in one and I love it. Also try breaking out of the field of just drawing, try painting. For some reason people go crazy over acrylic and oil painters. Lastly, get better. Practice art more than you already do and just try to get as good as you can when you're young and your brain is still moldable.
