Do you remove your nail art acrylic/ceramic flowers when you have to shower?

I'm tempted to buy some of those beautiful acrylic/ceramic roses for my nails, but I don't know if they are supposed to be taken off when taking a shower, washing hair, etc.

What do you do? Do you leave them on 24/7? Or pry them off at night or whenever and re-glue them later?

Answer
No. You leave them on. If you don't think that you'll be able to function through your daily activities with them, don't get them. If you are constantly prying them off you'll ruin your natural nails - and if you take them off with acetone - as you should when you want to remove them - to dissolve the glue, you'll also ruin the flower.

What is a good nail art pen, and where can I buy it?

123

I'm looking for a nail polish pen that can be used to make designs and small details, not the 1 stroke nail polish pens.

Answer
honestly, that one chick that answered already is right. The salley hansen nail pens are the best. they are about 8 dollars each and are totally worth it. i bought some for my sister and she made these beautiful leopard spots on her toes. do urself a favor and dont purchase anything online. thats the worst thing to do. just drive over to walgreens, savons, target, or even walmart and buy youself a pair!

:D

I have tons of nail polish colors but they all got kind of old. I've resorted to painting rainbows on my nails. It's kind of my only thing right now. Thanks!

Answer
I change it up all the time. On my nails i usually stick to a baby pink or nude. On my toes im stuck on browns and deep purples right now.

Okay so i have this project and I'm supposed to make a 3D model of hello kitty. So i got this crayola air dry clay but about half of its dryed up COMPLETELY now and I don't know how to get it back? And I really need to make this model fast so if you have any advice on how to get the clay back to squishy, mold-able clay, please tell me, or if you have another idea that i can make hello kitty model out of then tell me cause I can't go out and buy anything so just I need to use house hold things. This is an urgent thing please help QUICKK D:::!!!!!

Answer
You could try: Some of those high grade modeling clays can get really hard. A quick way to make them more pliable is to microwave it for short periods of time- like 15 seconds at a time. Alternate the kneading and microwaving and it should get workable really quickly.

Is water based clay?
If so, yes. If it's big pieces break up into smaller chunks (wearing a dust mask, avoid breathing in clay dust).
Soak in water, let sit for about a day (or longer) - do NOT STIR
Pour off surplus water.
Best way of drying it to the correct consistency is putting it onto a dry plaster bat (a slab of plaster). The plaster will soak up excess moisture. Check periodically. When it has the consistency you want it to be put in plastic bag to prevent it from drying further.

Here are a number of recipes for in the kitchen made 'clay' you could use for modeling

# PLAY CLAY (WITHOUT FLOUR):

1 cup baking soda

1/2 cup cornstarch

2/3 cup warm water

food coloring or poster paints

shellac or clear nail polish

Mix baking soda and cornstarch in pot. Add water and stir until smooth. Cook over medium heat, boil and stir until "mashed potato consistency". Pour onto board to cool. Knead when cool. For color, knead food coloring into clay (after cooled) until blended, or paint after finished molding. When your shapes are dry, you can brush with shellac or clear nail polish.

Notes:
# hardens quickly
# will store in airtight container for several weeks

CORNSTARCH DOUGH:

1/2 cup salt

1/2 cup hot water

1/2 cup cold water

1/2 cup cornstarch

Mix salt and hot water and boil in pot. Stir cold water and cornstarch in a separate bowl. Add cornstarch mixture to boiling water and stir. Cook over low heat, stirring until "pie dough consistency". Remove from heat and place dough on board. When cool, knead dough until smooth. Have fun playing!

Notes:
# texture is grainy
# hardens in 1-2 days
# dough will be white
# to speed dry, put in 200 degree oven for 1 hour
# will keep for a long time if stored in a container

SNOW PLAY DOH:

1 cup Ivory Snow laundry detergent

2 cups warm water

food coloring

electric hand mixer or egg beater

Add food coloring to warm water, then add to laundry detergent. Mix well with beater until fluffy. Use just like regular play doh.

Warning: Could be toxic if ingested

SCENTED PLAY DOH: (smells awesome and the kids LOVE IT!)

1 package of sugar free gelatin; .3 oz size (use any flavor you want, as the dough will have that scent when done; I believe you can replace the gelatin with a Kool-Aid packet instead for even more scented varieties!)

2 cups flour

1 cup salt

4 tablespoons cream of tartar

2 cups boiling water

2 tablespoons cooking oil

Mix dry ingredients together in pot, add the boiling water and cooking oil. Stir over medium heat until it forms a ball. Let it cool. Keep in air tight container in refrigerator when not playing with it.

CHOCOLATE SCENTED PLAYDOH:

1 1/4 cups flour

1/2 cup cocoa powder

1/2 cup salt

1/2 tablespoon cream of tartar

1/2 tablespoon cooking oil

1 cup boiling water.

Mix flour, cocoa powder, salt, and cream of tartar together. Add cooking oil and boiling water to mixture. Stir quickly and mix well. Cook over low heat until dough forms a ball. When cool, mix with your hands. Store in airtight container.

Note: It smells good enough to eat, but tastes awful! Is NOT EDIBLE.

MICROWAVE PLAY DOH: (scented, if use Kool Aid)

6 tablespoons cream of tartar

3 cups plain flour

4 tablespoons cooking oil

1/2 cup salt

3 cups water

food coloring/powder paint/or Kool Aid packet

Combine all ingredients in microwave proof dish and beat until smooth. Cover with cling wrap and microwave on high for 7 minutes, stirring half way through cooking. If the mixture is still gooey, microwave for another minute. (Since all microwaves are different, be sure to watch the dough while cooking). Cool and store in airtight container in the refrigerator.

Do anybody know of an really good video tutorials for photoshop and possible illustrator? Like videocopilot.net is REALLY good for After Effects... so i was wondering if there was any REALLY good tutorials for the other adobe products. Thank you

In addition, this is a collection of links that I've bookmarked over the past 9 months or so. Not all of these are video tutorials but hopefully you'll find something that will help.

Since Yahoo only allows 10 links per answer these won't have the http in front of them.

Hopefully you'll find something in that mess that will help you out.

Any GREAT party themes or ideas for a 33rd B-day party?

somerset_7

My husbands turning 33 next month and I haven't thrown him a party in 5 years. I was thinking of renting a mechanical bull but that turned out to be $$$ especially since insurance is invovled. What would be a great party idea or theme? I plan on having the party at my house since I don't want time to be an issue. This way our guests can hang out for as long as they want. Any ideas would be great. I wanted to start buying supplies now. His b-day isn't until the end of March. Thanks!!!

Answer
We had a trailer trash birthday party for my husbands 33rd birthday. We just moved into a really suburban neighborhood, so you can imagine the looks we are still getting from the neighbors. INVITATIONS:I took clip art that I found online of redneck origin, a bent beer can, an old truck and invited everyone to come dressed in white trash attire and to bring some beer and grub. DECORATIONS: I hung a clothes line up from our fence to a tree in the yard and filled it with lovely clothing articles that I picked up at the second hand store, including: a huge bra, some cut off shorts, beer labelled t-shirts, some grandpa undies(you know the ones), socks with stains and wholes..you get the picture I put aluminum foil in the windows, and ripped sections to make it look old and used. I hung some old beach towels and sheets in some of the other windows. I made a beer windchime, which doubled as an asstray...very useful. My friend is a mechanic, so we borrowed hubcaps and hung them at various heights along our fence. Then of course there was lawn decor... an old sink, that we filled with ice and beer, santa and his reindeer decorations that lit up at night, empty laundry detergent bottles, shoes, a stroller turned on its side, a bunch of beer bottles/cans of course oh and the bathtub....we are renovating so we had one laying around...literally. Inside, I covered all the furniture with old sheets, and used cut open garbage bags as a table cloth for the coffee table. FOOD: We had pork and beans with crunched up taco chips, canned cheese, hotdogs, hamburgers, a variety of dips, tator tots, and squirrel stew(not really), jello shooters, and of course beer CAKE: I found a hilarious toilet cake that was an angel food cake with white icing, filled with yellow jello and chocolate slowpokes. I made the upper part of the toilet with paper and cardboard that read.."after 33, it all goes to crap" The cake was a hit, tasted good and the kids loved it. GAMES:For games we had frozen t-shirts. I soaked and folded shirts and froze them in the deep freeze overnight, then I handed them out to unsuspecting guests who had to try to get the shirt on first. We also had a carve the spam contest. I bought the no-name stuff...yuck nobody was eating it anyways and it was way cheaper. The deal was they had to make a hood ornament in 2 minutes. We also had a hook the underwear game. I nailed some bigger nails onto the fence and they took turns trying to get as many undies out of 5 onto the nails on the fence. For prizes we had whoopie cushions, toilet brush sets, redneck plastic teeth from the local dollar store. It was a family bbq and everyone had a great time. I can't wait for the next one.

If this doesn't sound like it would be up your alley. Try the site below. The have tons of ideas"!

Just any summer look. I'm starting to get bored with just painting them pink! Thanks

Answer
Ooooh There are TONS of ideas! What colors do you own? If all you have is pink then I can only suggest either a french pedicure or polka dots. But when you collect more colors, you can try doing color blocks or patterns!

To do a french pedicure (or Manicure!):
-Gently swipe the tip of your toenail with your pink (or white if you've got it). If you're a pro and can do it quick, you can do all of your toes first. But I would just stick to one at a time.

-Now find a paintbrush that's pretty flat and straight. (should be shaped sorta like this: http://www.artistpaintbrush.com/images_royal/4/royal_economy_gold_taklon_shader_artist_paint_brush-r15-4.jpg )

-Now dip the end of the brush with Nail Polish Remover and slowly push the edge of the stripe of pink you swiped on. You should be gently pushing only the side that's facing the moon/rest of you toe. After you've pushed it to where you like it, let it dry and do your other nails.

-Add clear nail polish.

To do polka-dots:
You can buy at any drug store a thin-brushed nail polish to make cute designs on your own, or you could do this DIY:
http://media-cache-ec0.pinterest.com/upload/250512797992618489_WBY1uuH8_f.jpg

If you want more ideas, google toenail ideas! or Nail art, Nail ideas, etc. If you have a tumblr, Pinterest, Youtube or other similar site, you can search "Nails" there and you'll find great things to do! Have fun with your nails!! :D

How do I get rid of yellow nails from dark polish and no base coat?

Princess

I got into a really bad habit of not putting on base coat when I painted my nails and now I can't get rid of this yellow look on my nails. I have tried soaking them in lemon juice but that doesn't work. I am looking for any suggestions.

Answer
Wow your in for a treat! I just read this magazine article on 10 brilliant uses for toothpaste here I'll quote it for you

"Oops! You gave yourself a knockout manicure but you forgot to apply a base coat before painting your nails a dark color. And now that you've removed the polish, your nails have taken on a yellowish tin! To get them back to their normal shade, apply whitening toothpaste on an old toothbrush, and use tiny circular motions to scrub the surface of each fingernail. The detergents in the toothpaste lift off stain-causing particles, returning your nails to top form in no time."

Hope this helps!

I need some cute, easy nail art designs that don't take a looooong time to do! Also, here's the nail polish inventory I have to work with:
Red
Maroon
Turquoise
Dark blue + glitter
Dark green
Green
Lime green + glitter
White
Silver glitter
Diamond glitter
Pink in every shade imagineable!!!!
White nail art brush
Black nail art brush

So... any ideas?

Answer
â¢You could do zebra stripes with either a turquoise (if it's light enough) or a hot pink & the black nail art brush.
â¢You could use a white nail art brush to paint on Chinese-like symbols or cherry blossoms (over red or pink polish)
â¢if you don't mind getting messy you could take pink, white, & green nail polish & do water marbling (http://m.wikihow.com/Create-a-Marble-Nail-Effect-Using-Water)
â¢Geometric patterns are very cool and easy
Note- if you have an instagram, follow @holymanicures for more ideas I love her stuff! Hope this helped! :)

These other ladies seem to think you have no confidence. I am sure you know you're the finest thing in the room at all times, but since you asked for advice on what to wear, so here it is.

For a concert, although you might want to look sexy. it's a good idea not to wear stilettos or a miniskirt, because you could fall in the crowd(not classy) and miniskirts are not always safe for public places like that. No one knows it better than coco chanel. Wear a little black dress(hitting right above the knee- NOT strapless) with simple jewelry(white costume pearls- think 1920s), hair either wavy and flowing or in a loose updo, and wear some slightly chunky heels(they're so in right now) in red. Wear red lipstick(depending on your coloring) and red nail polish as well. Nothing more intriguing than an ensemble like that. and for makeup, keep it simple as well. a plain matte color in a color similar or complementary to your skintone with lots of dramatic lashes and simple black liquid liner(not too thick).

if it's cold I recommend a white or red cardigan and nude hose.

This looks is timeless and always classy. Sure to turn heads in the best way.

how does beautiful natural scenery make you feel ?

NUTTYTART

i am just back from the North of Scotland where nature is at her best, I think its a tonic to see makes you feel alive but small, interested to know your views.

Answer
Nature, in all it's beauty & splendor just rejuvenates me & never fails to amaze me. it has such a calming, serene/peaceful effect. one can so easily forget one's troubles, or the urban life, etc. - they seem so petty & far away ...you just want to absorb all the beauty ,,,

the image stays etched in memory forever. one wants to reproduce/capture it in the form of a painting or poem but sometimes one just has to rely on one's vivid memory. that is one reason i prefer paintings to be realistic [no "modern" art & abstract painting for me] and poetry to have metaphors involving Nature.

i'm lucky to have a small pond ecosystem just across my east-facing balcony from where i can view a large variety of birds, butterflies, thick greenery, trees, etc. and of course, the sun rising daily....

yes, you've nailed it - alive but small.... but privileged too ;-))

Beautiful designs for nails? I am good at it but don't know what to do.?

PURPLEgirl

I have medium length nails and I love any color. I am good at doing nail art, but I don't know any ideas. I have nail art pens and almost every color nail polish, so any design is welcome.

Answer
I saw someone the other day wearing dark blue nail polish with silver streaks. They were very narrow and connected at the base, then wider near the top of the nail. Sorry, that's the best way I know how to explain it. But it looked awesome.
Also, little stars, sunbursts or little smiley sun faces, and swirls. I think it would be extremely difficult, but little cat or dog faces would be really cute. (And funny.) :)
If you can't think of anything, there's always google images too.

Tips to picking out a good coconut?

nail polish vendors
on Nail Polish | quarter life vices

Jane Doe

So for the 2nd time in my life I got a fresh coconut, hoping to make a coconut cake for my hubby. I had an easy enough time getting it open and the milk out, but the milk tasted like nail polish remover, and the coconut flesh wasn't much better. I grated the flesh and rinsed it, then sprinkled with sugar, and toasted it but it was still kind of nasty. The 1st coconut I ever bought was exactly like this as well. There obviously is no way that coconuts are supposed to taste like this, so does anyone have tips on how it should taste, or how I should go about picking out a coconut that doesn't taste like ass? I hate buying the gross packaged coconut, and would love to have an alternative.

Answer
Hi !!!
HERE YOU GO...I LOVE fresh coconut, too!!!

Buying a Fresh Coconut

Three eyes of the coconut.
The coconut user who has access only to dehusked nuts at the market needs to be alert to indicators of freshness of the nuts on offer. Choosing a nut requires care, because the edible portion is completely concealed within the shell. The first thing is to feel the weight of the nut - if it seems "light" compared to others there will be little water left inside. Select only a nut which has, on being shaken, a robust splashing sound indicative of plenty of water. Next examine the soft eye, seeking advice on how to distinguish it from the two "blind" eyes. Remember that the shell is usually slightly raised around one side of blind eye. Note also that there are three "stripes" on the nut, which come together between the three eyes. The angle between the two stripes closest to the soft eye is much wider than the other two angles. If the embryo is exposed or protruding in any way through the soft eye, reject the nut as infection and spoilage of the kernel is likely. Infection which enters through the soft eye spreads very quickly inside the cavity of the nut. The nut water and the inner surface of the kernel make this a very favourable place for "bugs".

Look carefully for any discolouration on the soft eye when choosing a nut -it is normally covered by a circular dry brown disc. Look at the whole nut for signs of patchy staining which might have come about if there is a fracture in the shell allowing moisture to seep out. "Old" nuts have a greyish look instead of brown. Fresh mature nuts have a shelf life of perhaps two months at moderate or low temperature. The delay between collection from a farm and presentation in an urban market can sometimes be longer than two months, and a proportion of nuts is generally unsuitable for consumption. The vendor faces the same problems as the buyer and may have difficulty screening out bad nuts. So buyer beware! Nuts from the Caribbean are marketed in USA, Canada and Europe in a plastic shrink-wrap package with an opening above the eyes. This has the purpose of extending the shelf life by slowing down evaporation of the nut water. Wrapping might also reduce the access of decomposing organisms to the kernel via the minute channels through the shell that fibres connected to the palm were attached to during development. Arguably a nut with a "coat" of fibre is less prone to bacterial invasion than a nut that has been scraped clean. In the future a processor may devise a means of sealing the shell and soft eye so well that the nut has a greatly-prolonged shelf-life.

Cool storage suppresses the activity of micro-organisms, keeping the nut fresh for longer, and freezing has been shown to work on a small scale. The value of the nut is probably not high enough, however, to justify freezing by the marketer. Defrosted kernel is softer, having lost some of the crispness of the fresh kernel. This makes shredding in a blender or juicer
easier.

SAVE YOUR COCONUT SHELLS & MAKE THESE, THEY'RE GREAT!!!

Pineapple & Coconut Shake

Ingredients
11/2 cups Pineapple juice
1/3 cup Coconut milk
51/2-oz Vanilla ice cream
5-oz Pineapple chunks
2 Scooped out coconut shells- optional
2 tbsp Grated fresh coconut

Preparation
1. Pour the pineapple juice and coconut milk into a food processor. Add the ice cream and process until smooth.
2. Add the pineapple chunks and process until smooth.
3. Pour the mixture into scooped out coconut shells, or tall glasses and decorate with grated fresh coconut. Add straws and serve.

*******HERE IS HOW TO CUT THE SHELL NEATLY SO THAT YOU CAN SERVE DRINKS IN THEM...
*******

Hereâs how to open them, and itâs quite simple:

First, you need to have a nice big heavy cleaver. Not the thin-as-a-razor kind you can get in so many shops, but a big meat cleaver meant for hacking through bones - one with plenty of heft. Henckels has a fantastic one that I use, and Iâll show it to you in a bit.

Now, put that coconut on a cutting board, on itâs side, and give it a really good whack with the cleaver, straight down into one of the slopes which leads to the point at the top of the coconut.

Hopefully that whack broke through into the inner shell enough so that you can now turn the coconut upside down over a bowl, and let it rest and drain out all the wonderful coconut water. (If it didnât, give it another good whack, and another if necessary, until you can drain out the water.)

A small young coconut can contain as much as 1 1/2 cups or more of coconut water.

Once all of the coconut water is drained out, if you have the right cleaver for the job, like my Henckels, you can turn the coconut back on its side, insert the cleaver back into the slit you made, and actually just work the cleaver down, straight across the top of the coconut, neatly slicing off the tip, and opening up the coconut straight across - it will now look like a cup (in fact many Asian restaurants do exactly this, serving a coconut-based drink in this âcupâ).

is it possible to make a necklace waterproof?

Q. So I bought a necklace from one of those random vendors in the middle of the mall corridors.

It was a pretty chain and so I bought it [impulsive buyer I am]. She told me to keep it away from water.
I was wondering it it was possible for me to make it water resistant in any way.

Answer
This dosent work for all metals, but sometimes applying a clear coat of nail polish keeps it from water and rust damage. I hope it works out ;)

I'm looking for a new summer trend to talk about on my new blog? Can I get some ideas?

Answer
Belly chains are becoming super popular for bikinis! If you look in some Victoria Secret magazines Candice Swanepoel is wearing them and now I want one! Vintage swimsuits like the ones Marilyn Monroe used to wear are becoming more noticeable.

Also look at the new nail trends, colors, and art that are out. You can find some looks on Instagram or Pinterest. Girls are getting new designs and making the shape of the nails almond or pointy which is cute. Different colored manicure tips and making one nail a different color is also trending.

Hey. I have a new YouTube thing with so far 2 videos. They're alright. Some mistakes but I'm planning to get better. I only have 1 veiw :/ I know it's the first day but that one veiw was me... Lol. So how do I increase my views? And subs? Will u sub? MY link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4KlELxAgig
Also...any ideas to make it better? Other nail art? Or another thing to make videos on? Like diy makeup ect?

Answer
basically spam your page. i know nobody likes spam but it can work just post the link to your page everywhere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C33-cPbh⦠like this, twitter, facebook, on here, google+ etc.

type in the search box on youtube what you think will bring your video up and click on the first video and post a video response. this will post your video in their comments and show a link to your page and get you views because people always click on the first video.

comment on other videos, you wont get noticed if you dont get seen so comment on every video you watch. think of it like in school, nobody notices the quiet kids so they wont get seen but everybody sees the loud kids so be loud on youtube and comment on everything even if it says "good video"

email it to other youtube users, add loads of people and just email them all

Answer
I'm just in highschool but i do mine & my friends nails all the time. I used to get my nails done all the time so i kind of picked it up by watching them, My best advice is watching youtube videos. As for supplies check ebay & sallys, And a little bit of info; acrylic pain, as in art paint, works on nails & stays much longer than nail polish. I use it for some designs. Good luck!

What should I do to get into Stanford?

nail art 4 of july

nail art 4 of july image

marcus

Yes, VERY generic question, I know. I also know that the admissions counselors usually say that there is no "one strict set of rules," but I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to what I should be doing (I'm currently a junior in a small private school). Also, what are good SAT/ACT scores to shoot for? Any other info about admission to Stanford would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any and all help! :)

Answer
More importantly than your GPA is the quality and degree of difficulty of your classes, and your ranking. They'd rather see a B in a class like AP Physics than an A in Earth Science, four years of a language than shop or Home Ec, and your ranking will give them insight on how well you've done in your environment in comparison to your classmates. Every year strive to have a schedule with a breadth of courses. One recruiter told me that balancing out heavy-weight traditional academic courses such as AP Calculus with creatively challenging ones like AP Music Theory, Art & Drawing, Choreography and the like would be impressive to the admission committee. Also seek out leadership opportunities in your school and community, such as being a class officer, the editor of the newspaper, captain of an athletic team or being an active volunteer. It's better to excel in a few specific areas than to just be involved in many.

The majority of admitted applicants to the class of 2012 had a GPA of 4.0 or higher, were ranked in the top 10% of their class, and had a SAT score of 2250 or better. This year there was a 20% increase in applicants from last year, and it was the hardest year in the history of the university to be accepted, so you'll need to have even more impressive stats than the ones for the class of 2012.

Work hard and enthusiastically, take on challenges, make the most of your summers by taking classes, volunteering or working, and then when it's time to apply, put a serious amount of thought into your essays. The application will become available in July. Review it then and write your essays over the summer. Ask your teachers to read them and give you constructive criticism. At schools like Stanford where there are so many applicants vying for so few spots, readers are assigned to go over applications and the essays, and if you're essay was poorly constructed, there's a strong chance the committee won't dedicate a lot of time to even reviewing it themselves. So, you have to make sure your essays and application are nailed down tightly.

Good luck!
