How can I get nail polish out of my shirt?

emily (:

Well, I got BLACK nail polish in my WHITE shirt. I didn't notice until a few minutes ago, and it's just a little bit, but it already went threw the washer and dryer and it's all dried. How can I get it out? Thanks so much. :]

Answer
Nail polish remover will not work after the polish has set in fabric. In fact, on a lot of synthetic fabrics, nail polish remover containing acetone will melt and damage the fabric.

Sounds like the shirt is going to have those spots on it permanently.

Pregnancy and nail polish?

Rock

A friend told me not to use nail polish while pregnant because of the chemicals. If I don't keep my nails polished they chip and break easily. It's bad enough the thought of being bloated and tired all the time...now I have to have nasty nails too??!! I'm asking the pregnant women here... do you polish your nails??

Answer
yes i polished my nails all the time the doc said there was no problem as long as i couldnt smell it real strong i was safe
if you can smell it strong just go outside or open a couple windows

also prenatal vitamins will help alot with your nails by making them stronger shinier and grow faster (same with hair)

nail polish and remover??

mommy2408

are they bad during pregnancy??

i wasn't using them by my stepsister was, i was not in the room, i didn't really think anything of it till now.

should i be concerned that i was in the house while it was done??

25.4 weeks pregnant

Answer
Unless you work in a nail salon, your exposure to the fumes in nail polish and remover is minimal. Not enough of the chemicals in these products are absorbed into the skin to hurt the baby. You can polish your own nails if you want. And if they're anything like mine...stronger than ever and growing like weeds...you should take advantage of it! Good luck and congrats!

Since there is formaldehyde in nail polish, can it cause birth defects if pregnant women use it?

DeAnna

I know I have caught myself picking at my polish with my teeth back when I used to bite my nails, a bad habit I finally broke!! I just recently found out that most nail polishes contain formaldehyde, and I know it has birth defects.
I was just wondering if formaldehyde in nail polish can cause birth defects?

Answer
Absolutely, if you drink enough of it.

OPI, Orly and Del Laboratories, which makes the Sally Hansen Brands have all acknowledged this week that they have begun removing a number of the suspect ingredients from their nail varnish products.

The move is the result of a long-standing campaign by the lobby group that has targeted specific brands of nail varnish that are said to contain ingredients including phthalates, formeldahyde and toluene - ingredients that have all been scientifically linked to health-related conditions in humans.

Sally Hansen, one of the highest profile names in the US nail varnish segment, said it is reformulating all its products to remove dibutyl phthalate (DBP), formaldehyde and toluene.

Company spokesperson Ann Nugent said that the reformulation "is a big concern for us" and that the company sees it as a "stepped-up effort." However, the company has not yet confirmed with all the reformulated products will be on store shelves.

OPI and Orly have said they would remove DBP from their products but would continue to use toluene. Likewise OPI still uses formaldehyde in some nail products.

Orly spokesperson Jennifer Marlowe said that the company began removing DBP from all products "at least a year ago" but that "some products still contain small amounts of toluene and formaldehyde resin, not formaldehyde."

The campaigners have pointed out that the three ingredients are on California's Prop. 65 list of chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity.

In particular, recent scientific studies have stressed the line between DBP and underdevelopment of newborn baby boys. Although the chemical is banned by the EU, in the US the FDA has not made any such move.

Toluene has also been linked to skin irritations, liver damage and anaemia, while formeldahyde is 'reasonably anticipated' to be a human carcinogen.

The group says that its action against specific manufacturers of nail varnish highlights the fact that FDA regulations do not require that cosmetics products have to be tested for safety, contrary to stricter regulations governing the European market.

What stores sell Katy Perry black shatter nail polish?

Natalie

I'm in LOVE with it. And everytime I go to walmart or target, i can never find it :( where on earth do they sell it?!

Answer
You can buy it anywhere you can buy OPI polishes that regularly come out with the new collections (so even though Target sells OPI, you won't find the new collection there. And no, Sally's, Sephora, and MAC do NOT sell OPI). You can buy it at Ulta, JC Penney salons, Trade Secret, or possibly some salons near you. Recently, OPI sent out another batch of these polishes. My Ulta was totally stocked last time I was there. You can also go to OPIs website (www.OPI.com) and in the top right corner is a "Where to Buy" link.
If you cannot find it, China Glaze has a line of 6 different colors of crackle polish (black, teal, pink, grey, purple, white). You can buy them at Sally's, though they might be sold out as well because they had more colors than just black. You might be able to find these online, too.
There are also other brands besides OPI and China Glaze that have crackle polishes. You'll have better luck searching with the name Crackle as opposed to Shatter. Crackle polishes actually came out back in the 90s by CoverGirl. OPI just renamed it to "shatter".
Some other brands that sell crackles are LaRosa, IsaDora, and Barry M. Also know that OPI is releasing several more crackles in different colors in the coming months.

How long does it take GEL nail polish to dry WITHOUT a UV lamp?

Maple

So I got gel nails done for the first time and fell in love with them! I want to do this at home. Ive already been doing my nails for about 3-4 years (doing more pro things. No press on nails just straight acrylice polishes) Ive gotten my nails done by a nail stylise (cant remember the correct name!) 3 times. The rest ive done myself. What Id like to know is, how long will it take GEL polish to dry on its own without the use of a UV lamp? Just a rough number. I always let my nails dry freely. Air drying. Can anyone answer my question? Gel polish not acrylics!!! Thanks!!!

Answer
The UV reacts to dry them so I do not think they ever would

Is this dangerous? Jewelry Cleaner and Nail Polish Remover mixed together?

Camera man

Ok I accidentally got nail polish remover on my jewelry. So I washed them with jewelry cleaner. I washed them all off with hand soap and water. Now can I get breathing problems from waring this stuff because of the fact that I mixed these chemicals together? I know this sounds dumb, but if you could please give me an answer I'd appreciate it.

Answer
Generally speaking it is not a good idea to mix household chemicals together, given the fact that harmful fumes could be evolved that could lead to, say, breathing problems or what have you. You should particularly avoid mixing oxidizers (such as chlorine bleach or products containing sodium hypochlorite) with organic compounds (such as nail polish remover) as the products of the reaction between them may be hazardous. Though in your case I wouldn't worry about it too much since nail polish remover is quite volatile (evaporates quickly), so there probably wouldn't have even been any on your jewelry by the time you took the jewelry cleaner to it. What does the jewelry cleaner bottle list as its active ingredient?

painting jewelry with nail polish?

Kimberly

so a couple years ago, my best friend gave be this gorgeous necklace from forever21 that goes with everything for my birthday. i wore it at least once a week, it's my second favorite necklace everr (next to my juicy couture ones, haha) only problem is that its fake gold and the gold came off and now some of it is like, silver. is it possible to paint it with gold nailpolish? or can i rub off the gold to turn it silver completely?

thanks so much!! :)

Answer
I wouldn't use nail polish. Check at a craft store like Ac Moore or Michaels near the picture frames. There's stuff called 'Rub 'n' Buff' that comes in bronze, gold, and silver. I've used it on a couple bracelets and it works great and doesn't rub off on your skin.

Nail question--Is "Out the Door" top coat any good?

annababy

I'm generally a Seche Vite fan for top coats as I do a lot of nail stamping and Seche Vite dries quickly and doesn't smear the designs. But I go thru a lot of it and when I get down to about a 5th of the bottle left, it's too thick and sticky to use. Orly smears like crazy no matter how long I let the stamps dry, Milani and Sinful Colors smear a bit too and aren't as glossy, and Sally Hanson's is too expensive to experiment with (at least for me; Orly was expensive too, what a waste of money!! Don't wanna do that again). I've heard mention of these big bottles of top coat called "Out the Door" and want to see if any other nail art/stamping junkies like me can give me a review or recommendation. Thanks!

Answer
No, its not good.

how to make homemade nail polish?

Deon

I have a school project and i desperatley need to know how to make homemade nail polish. i cant use already made polish so i cant add colour to a clear polish. plz help.
ps. has to be natural so that means no chemicals

Answer
Homemade Nail Polish Recipe 1
Materials Required
Clear Nail Polish, Colored Eye Shadow/ Pigment Makeup, Nail Polish Remover
Fine Glitter Dust (optional), Small Funnel, Scrap of Paper, Plastic Baggie

Procedure
- Open up the bottle of clear nail polish and place the funnel end into the bottle.
- Block the hole of the funnel by placing a small scrap of paper at the bottom.
- Place some eye shadow in a sealed plastic bag. Gently press the eye shadow and crush it till you get a lump-free, powdery consistency.
- Transfer the powdered eye shadow or pigment makeup into the funnel.
- If you desire, you can add a very small amount of fine glitter to the funnel mixture.
- Carefully mix the fine glitter and eye shadow/ pigment makeup before you remove the scrap of paper.
- Remove the scrap of paper and allow the mixture to enter the bottle.
- Remove the funnel from the bottle and replace the cap on the clear nail polish.
- Shake the bottle well for about 2 minutes.
- You can add more eye shadow/ pigment makeup or glitter in case the resultant color is not up to your liking.
- In case your nail polish gets thick or lumpy, add a few drops of nail polish remover and shake for one minute to thin the nail polish.

i recently mastered the art oof card counting in a casino and have won close to a grand wraughting the system ^^

does anyone have any bad experinces with card counting? is there a law against it?

im female 21, 5'9 and 129 lb.

so far no one has noticed, i just dont wanna get caught cuz im scared of what they will do?!

Answer
You won't get arrested, but you will get asked to leave - and don't think that security won't notify every other casino in town. Casinos have the right to refuse to let anyone on their property at any time for any reason, and if you get nailed card counting in one place, you won't be welcome at any other. EVER.

So, if you're going to do it - don't be obvious about it, and don't do it all the time. Because, even if you aren't counting, all they have to do is *think* you are, and you're outta there.
