What's good party idea for a 12 year old girl?

nellie

I have a 12 year old daughter we already know where her party is gonna be but she just needs a theme she doesn't wanna be babyish and like no specific amount of people is coming she likes fancy and her favorite colors are creme and gold and she likes paris

Answer
Could be Paris in a particular era.
Creme & gold might lend itself to art deco.
The look of an elegant garden party would be beautiful, even indoors. Could have a 2-seater lawn chair in creme or gold colored or creme & gold stripes. Creme-colored trellis or look of a garden gate entrance. In late summer, you'd have all the end-of-summer sales for garden party accessories at rock-bottom prices.
edit--from next day's paper, saw feature on new party rental place & pic. Wooden A-frame with 2-seater garden chair. Chair hanging from chains like a garden swing. Would be perfect for party pics, 2 at a time, with others standing behind.
Ah...an art deco garden party set in Paris. There you are, a possibility anyway.

I'm picturing either long or short Grecian looking slinky or knit dresses, where it doesn't matter if they're filled out well by 12-yr-olds. Could also be a knit sundress that could be worn over a T-shirt or sleek turtleneck for fall.
Peach, chartreuse, dark purple, or lavender blue are all good colors with the 2 that you mentioned.
Otherwise, might be the new look of the year, one of those below the knee pencil skirts with a sweater for fall. (or like my chartreuse cashmere blend ribbed polo-shirt with collar.)
Could wear a long gold fringed necklace or a pretty scarf or perhaps both, & a coordinating shawl.
Side note...As I teen (late 50's, early 60's), I had a low-waisted heavy gold satin after-five dress--very elegant. Also had one in brocade with scoop neck & cap sleeves. Brocade colors were peach, creme, & gold flowers with touches of green leaves. Gathered-on skirt, but not overly full. Both of these dresses had very stylized skirts, neither slim nor very full.
Might want to search for gold sandals during end of summer sales, but pick some out that won't be too bare looking for fall, or she might be able to find gold flats styled like ballet slippers. Brown shoes would probably have to be dark brown, the best alternative to black for those colors.
She might love to have an array of nail polishes that go with those colors, including gold nail polish! Copper color is great & unusual for autumn lipstick & isn't too dark for a young girl. Can be blended with peach, too.
oops! Sorry to get all sidetracked with fashion & stuff.

Whatever the theme, could be in those colors as you know. Get posters that fit in with the theme, along with some inexpensive frames to hang up at the party. They could be hung in her room afterward.

I just did some searches on art deco & art nouveau art posters & saw many styles of artists, ranging from choice of lanky or voluptuous draped ladies to floral designs. Here's one...
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Art+Nouveau+Posters&Form=IQFRDR#view=detail&id=D8A5BC5DBD3E8D0334CAB718C904510F367DD6B9&selectedIndex=2
There are also posters of Luncheon of the Garden Party by Renoir that's a favorite of mine, but a much earlier era.
Can search on "posters of art deco" or "posters of art nouveau," or "luncheon of the garden party by renoir" or go to "all.posters," which has many, & other sites. Could be that the posters that she likes + what she'd want to wear might influence what she & you select as the theme.

I can also envision some ferns in pots set around. They would go with many themes. Or there might cut flowers in vases, particularly autumn flowers, with vases & flowers geared to the theme.
gold-trimmed cut-glass or crystal bowls for snacks or candy & such
Bowls or platters of fall fruit, like figs, grapes, fresh dates, black olives with toothpicks available.
Those colors will go well for several choices in cakes & frostings...butter colored, cream cheese, banana, or even chocolate would coordinate. Whipped cream edging or whipped cream on the side jazzes up a cake. Apple cake is also terrific for fall.
Cream & gold autumn leaves would make wonderful decorations, but so would gold-colored borders on cream for napkins & such. Lovely image.
Many of these may be what you already have in mind with those colors. (Don't mean to insult you. You only asked for themes.)

Since she likes colors & fancy things, this would be a good age for a color analysis & make-up lesson, even if make-up is reserved for special occasions. That way she would be less likely to make gaudy mistakes, & she could be taught how to make it look natural. So, that would be a wonderful gift, too. Do a search on color analysis if you're not familiar with it & watch YouTube demos of some done for teens. There are many different companies that do it, such as Color Me Beautiful & Beauty for All Seasons. Might get her the Color Me Beautiful book, then see if she'd like a color analysis for Christmas or some other holiday.

Have fun!

Tokio Hotel Family: What do you think of this [stalker]video someone took of Tom...?

A_YAHOO_AN

I don't think stalker pics are nice because it is an invasion of privacy to hide in a bush and photograph someone, but this video made my day and made me smile cause he's so cute >.< but it's still wrong... right?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vT00ozdmyIU&feature=player_embedded

Q1: How do you feel about stalker pictures/videos?
Q2: Do you think that that video was going too far... he didn't know he was being filmed?
Q3: How are your nails painted? mine are like this: http://artpad.art.com/gallery/?kosm24lfigk and my cousin called me a dork for having the TH logo :(
@Taylor: It's their Studio in Germany I think, and I used special nail pens for the logo :-)

Answer
Arghhh stalkers >:[
Was that at their house?! Don't you think that they should be able to get a bit of privacy?
Ughh.
He is really cute though :3

1. i hate them.. i get guilt tripped really easily.. it sucks. Because it's like i want to watch the videos & stuff because i want to see their beautiful faces.. but then i feel soo bad for them because they can't have any privacy ):
2. Yeahh i think it is..... i mean doesn't whoever taped it have something better to do than stalk celebrities?
3. Mine are orange! :D OMG! How in the world did you get the TH logo on your nails?! That would be soo hard!

edit ::: Ohh ok. Well that's not quite as bad as their house or something.. =P
& ooh cool! i have been wanting to get one of those nail pen things! :DD

Hair and makeup advice? first kiss help also? nail art?

Emily

Hey!(: so my birthday party is next week and i need some help on what to do with my haor and makeup! Im really excited for it. It is a joint bday party woth my bf (we are like best friends) and his twin who just happens to be dating my best friend. Also my other bff is their bffs gf. Confused? (: haha. Point is all my best friemds will be there and all his best friends will be including him so i really wanna look good! So it is at this place where they have ropes courses (in the air haha) and zip lines and glow in the dark dodgeball. They even have archery! I know it might sound kiddish and lame but its actually the best place ever! Its so fun and im super excited but i have a few things. So idk what to do with my makeup at all. I dont normally wear makeup so help?! Everthing i need to know. I want blush, eyeshadow, lip sticks and glosses, mascaras, fondations, powders, glitter, anything! My outfit is a lace pink long sleeve crop top with a light pink tank with sparkles underneath with leggings and boots. Super cute. Got it for christmas and it is from delias. The sparkles are gold, if that changes anything. Second thing, my hair. I was thinking straighten it so that ot wouldnt be too high matinence when i would be running around, and then i could easily just brush through it. But how should i style my bangs so they are out of my face? I have any haor type product you could dream of, including like a million bows. For the third thing is my nails. I was thinking pink that matches with gold glitter. Any other ideas or nail art tips or tricks? Remember im open to anything. Your idea might be even better! I am willing to go out and buy anything too. Last thing... well this ones kinda personal. I uh... really am hoping i will have my VERY first kiss that night. We have been dating for a LONG time now and this will be the perfect time. so how do i kinda get him alone and show him i want him to kiss me?! Please help. I will NOT make the first move(: lol. So help please!(:

Answer
Makeup: For your face, you want to go a little more natural cos you will be running around. start out with a tinted moisturizer or a bb cream. A bb cream would be better- the one by garnier is a good one. then use a concealer. I would go for a more prolong wear concealer by mac. It is great for both undereyes and also blemishes. set it with a powder. if your going high end- mac mineralize skin finish natural. If your going drugstore- try the rimmel stay matte powder. then i would contour with NYC bronzer in sunny. line your brush up with the top of your ear and the corner of your mouth and that is where you want to apply it. focus it more by your ear and make sure to blend it out. then you want to highlight. Try Mac mineralize skin finish in soft and gentle. this has gold glitter and will compliment your outfit perfectly. you also want to apply your blush. try something more natural. i would go with MAC blush mineralize blush in dainty if your paler. if your darker skinned, warm soul is your color. that is just a nice flush of color. for your eyes. start with a primer and apply this on your lids-( a drugstore one is the elf one. if you dont mind spending much money, i would get the urban decay primer potions)and below your lash line... go for a more natural look on your eyes. try one of the maybelline quads that has neutral colors. i like the copper chic one. put the lightest color on the inner third of the lid. then mix the two middle colors and place them on the outer 2/3 of your eye. then blend your bronzer that you used on the face and put that in your crease. apply the dark brown color in the pallete and put this in your outer corner and the blend it slightly under your lashline on the outer third. then take the mix you used on your lid and put this on the middle third under your lashes. lastly take the lightest color in that palette and put that in your inner corner that the inner third under your bottom lashes. then smudge a black liner (mac pencil kohl in smolder) on your upper lash line.. then apply this to your tightline. lift up your lid and apply this on that line. also apply this in your waterline and the inner corner. this will really define your eyes. then curl your eyelashes and apply a couple coats of a good mascara. I would use Maybelline one by one ... make sure it is in black though. For your lips, since you plan on having your first kiss just exfoliate them with some sugar and apply some maybelline babylips in pink punch. this will give you a slight tint but wont leave a lip print on your bf. ;)
**If you need help with anything just look it up on youtube. it really helps if what im saying doesnt make sense***

Hair: Definitely straighten it. but i would put it in a sleek ponytail that is nice and lifted. dont have it by your neck but you dont want it on the top of your head either. braid your bangs back and bobby pin them to your hair.

Nails: do a pink like you said but do a gold glitter decoration on your fourth finger. just do it on top of the pink. It will be super pretty!!!

just tell him that you want to give him something and have a nice card or something ready that you give to him. hopefully he will think its sweet and lean in and just play along!
Good luck!! hope you have a nice birthday!! hope i helped :)

Nail Polishes?????????

Jacquelyn

I have 2 questions:
1) What is the best drugstore nail polish (I am mostly looking for something that doesn't dry nails, but I like the other benefits too)?
2) What colors would look good on me? I am pale-ish, but I have olive undertones, and when I am tan I am an olive color, and I have dark/medium brown hair????

Thanks!!!!
Sorry I have 1 more question to add:
I am absolutely HORRIBLE at painting my nails with dark colors (it never looks right, it's always streaking and gets all over my fingers), how do I improve?

Answer
i use sally hansen.
they have special nail polishes that dont just color your nails, but they add shine and make them grow and stay healthy.
for what you are describing of yourself, i say try a pale salmon color. it should bring out your undertones and give your skin a healthy shine. also, i think you should use a light/pale pink lipgloss to help bring out your olive undertones and eccentuate your hair.
to help prevente messing your nails up, you should try getting a sponge seperator. i forget the exact name of them, but they seperate you nails, making it easier to stay on the nail and not on your hand.
also, try a clear shine to add on top of your color cotes.
hope this helped.
anything more, feel free to ask.

How can I prevent nail polish from chipping?

girly

I love to have polished nails but i hate they way they look when they begin to chip!!

I have tried numerous brands and all of the polish seems to start chipping or flaking off after 1-2 days. What can I do to make my polish last all week long?

(I generally stick to red or pink polish if that matters....)

Thanks!

Answer
well, if you go to a nail salon then they usually last for a week or two
put on many layers of a coat of polish
and put clear nail polish over your 2-3 layers

what's the best way to apply nail polish so that it lasts?

Q. What brands are best? How long does polish last in the bottle? I've had trouble with polish that looks okay when I apply it, but after a few hours it has small bumps in it.

Answer
OPI lasts about 2 weeks before it chips (pretty long in comparison to other brands)
In order to make nail polish last, there's 4 steps:
1) Wash your hands with antibacterial soap so that there's no oil or bacteria that could make your nail chip quicker.
2) Apply a base coat on all your nails and wait ~1 min for it to dry. This creates a nice, smooth base for your nail color to go on; and it prevents the color to stain your nails yellow.
3) Apply your nail color (if it's opaque, usually 1 coat is enough) in a thin coat, because too much can take a long time to dry and it's messy. But if you're using a cheap nail polish, 2 coats is probably better. Wait for ~1 min to dry
4) Apply a clear top coat, that way it kind of "seals" your nail color in so that it chips less easily.

As for the little bumps in it ... I'd say something happened in the drying process, because that never happened to me. Perhaps you went over your somewhat damp nail polish with another coat and it looks like a mess? Next time, make sure the nail polish dried COMPLETELY before applying another coat.

Hope this helps.

What do Etsy sellers use to make nail polish?

Potionsand

I am a total nail polish, and craft, junkie. I make my own soap, candles, jewelry etc. Just for myself to enjoy, not for sale. But I want to try my hand at making nail polish but it seems to me that all the youtube videos of how-to, all use eye shadow pigment and craft store glitter. I know that craft store glitter can be stripped of its color by certain chemicals, so that doesn't seem like a good way to go. But could be wrong.

I am mostly wondering what kind of glitters, and where they are bought, are used. As well as what to use for pigmentation. I am obsessed with jelly polishes but true ones seem pretty hard to find. I already know not to use straight clear nail polish and found a great seller for actually suspension bases.

Soooo can anyone help me out? Thanks!

Answer
Glitters found in nail polish (used them) comes from a small container sold @ Craft Stores.

Other questions, email ETSY.

WHO WAS THE INVENTOR OF LIPGLOSS?

RYDERorRIO

IM DOING A PROJECT AT SCHOOL AND NEED TO KNOW THE INVENTOR OF LIPGLOSS! :]

Answer
Lipgloss was invented by Max Factor to make lips shiny for films.
In the 1920s and 1930s, the glory years of Hollywood, Factor became intimately associated with the world of movie make-up. He created the first makeup for the movies in 1914, and coined the term "makeup", based on the verb, "to make up" (one's face).

-- 1914: Created the first makeup made specifically for motion pictures, a thinner greasepaint made in 12 shades. It was in cream form and packaged in jars, as opposed to the thicker stick greasepaints used for theater.

-- 1920: Developed the "Color Harmony" principles of makeup, which held that "certain combinations of a woman's complexion, hair and eye coloring were most effectively complemented by specific makeup shades". Ever have your "colors done"? Thank Max!

-- 1925: Introduces "Max Factor's Supreme Nail Polish", a metal pot of beige-colored powder that's sprinkled on the nails and buffed with a chamois buffer. It gives nails shine and some tint.

-- 1927: Creates "Society Nail Tint", a small porcelain pot containing rose colored cream. Applied to the nail and buffed, it gives a natural rose color. "Society Nail White" also hits the market. It's a tube of chalky white liquid that's applied under nail tips and left to dry. The end result resembles the modern French manicure.

-- 1928: Developed Panchromatic Makeup, made specifically for use in black and white films. It's for this innovation that Max Sr. was awarded an Oscar.

-- 1930: Invented Lip Gloss

-- 1932: Developed a line of "Television Makeup", made specifically to meet the needs of television.

-- 1934: Introduces Liquid Nail Enamel, forerunner of today's nail enamels.

-- 1935: Opened the unique Max Factor Makeup Salon in Los Angeles.

-- 1937: Created PanCake, forerunner of modern cake makeup, originally developed for color films.

-- 1938: Max Factor dies at age 59. His son, Max Factor Jr., takes over the company.

-- 1940: Created Tru Color Lipstick, the first smear-proof lipstick

-- 1948: Developed PanStik makeup

-- 1954: Created Erace, the original concealer, and developed a line of cosmetics specifically for color television's needs. (This line remains the standard for TV makeup).

-- 1971: Invented the first "waterproof" makeup.

How to remove nail polish from plastic?

Chris

I was hiding some nail polish from my three year old and put it on top of the fridge, and when I opened the fridge it fell and broke all over the inside of my refridgerator. It hardened pretty quickly and I have tried nail polish remover to get it off but that won't work. Any ideas on how to remove it from plastic? Paint thinner maybe??

Answer
I would use abrasion....namely an S.O.S. pad (or Brillo), plus water.

The S.O.S. pad will probably scratch the plastic, but I doubt it will be noticeable inside a refrigerator.

Just scrub with a wet S.O.S. until the nail polish is removed. Then wipe with a wet cloth to remove the soap residue.

Good luck.

Answer
Friend 1: get her the movie "The Princess Bride" (my personal fav)
Friend 2: depends on what you mean by "she likes art", if you mean she likes to MAKE art, get her supplies for whatever type of art she likes to make (example: if she paints, new canvases and and an easel) otherwise, I'm not sure, not enough details about this friend.
Friend 3: get her an NES (Nintendo entertainment system) with Battletoads (hard to find, but awesome gift for a true gamer)

Does anyone know where i would find the Sally Hansen nail art pens? What store?

Answer
Apparently you can't get them online yet, and they aren't even on Sally's site yet, nor Amazon. You can buy the set on eBay, but a bunch of people want them, so you'll get outbid easily if you don't watch it.

I have only seen them at Walgreens, and they were on sale. I don't know if they have them at Walmart, but I know someone got the wrong ones there by accident. You need to get the Nail Art Pens, and not the Fast Dry Nail Color Pen. Hope that helps!

Where can you buy seashell nail art studs online?

I'm a DIYer using Gelish at home, and I'd like to create a manicure using a gold seashell nail stud. I've seen these all over Instagram - particularly on Japanese manicures - so I know they exist⦠but I can't find them ANYWHERE! I've spent hours googling (seashell nail art, seashell nail studs, clam shell studs, Japanese nail art, ect) and checked out numerous online stores (including Born Pretty, Etsy, eBay, Amazon, and stores that popped up during my searches) and I can't find the seashell studs anywhere!

I'm hoping someone out there is in-the-know and can tell me where I can purchase them online (or in-store in Southern California).

Examples of the seashell nail studs I'm talking about:

Removing them... not so sure. always been scared to try.
But i doubt it, as when you get them removed you put your hands in some chemical?

I use nail polish on my nails all the the time and I want to know if any of the chemicals in nail polish can affect my nails.

Answer
Your nails DO NOT need oxygen they are not a living breathing thing , they are made from dead skin sells witch have keritinized .

Nail polish and removers can cause a surface de-hydration the full name for this is pseudoleukonychia this is what happens when the oils have been temporarily striped from the hard surface layers of your nail plate , these oils can be replaced VERY quickly using a cuticle oil such as OPI avo plex , or CND 's solar oil , the oil in our nail plates will help with keeping the nails flexibly witch in term means stronger! , hardeners make nails brittle . The esyest way to understand this is to think of a spiders web and a piece of steel the same size, the web is the strongest as it will flex under pressure the steel will bend and brake,

The yellowing effect some have talked about is left over color pigment normaly from red pigmented polishes such as brown' purple's and pinks and of course reds lol, this is very easily avoided by using a good quality base coat before polishing.

Although your nail is dead and will continue to grow (shed) it can not have a long term damage (the matrix not the nail plate can) the nail itself can not become allergic to anything but! The surrounding skin CAN! This is why when you go to a good salon to have your nails painted we techs always try to leave a tiny margin around the nail that is free from polish or product.

Now more and more professional nail color brands are RE-inventing them sealfs as "3 FREE " this means with out the 3 main nail product skin irritant ,so they have removed the Formaldehyde, Toluene and DBP.

The main brands on the market that have done this and become 3-FREE are CND color effects , CND shellac , Sparitual & ,Jessica

What is the longest lasting brand of nail polish?

lydia

I want something I can go pick up at most stores and is not to much money. I am sick of nail polish that starts chipping off the first day.

Answer
I suggest putting a base coat and a top coat that you can get cheap at Walgreens by Sinful Colors. I love the brands:

-Sinful Colors ($4 Walgreens)
-Sally Hansen ($5-$7 depending on type)
-Pure Ice ($3 Walgreens)
-Heaven (I don't know if they still manufacture it or not, but it's really good, one coat is enough and it won't chip for a while. Check online)
-China Glaze

Hope this helps, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me about it. :)

-Helpful tips for the first time camper-

1. Make friends with the people in your cabin. You will make new friends starting from the bus ride up there and have lots of people to hang out with. Also, introduce yourself to everyone. I always had not just my friends in my cabin but other people in my camp were my friends too. It is always good to have a lot of friends to get you through the lonely or homesick times.

2. If itâs your first time at overnight camp, itâs probably also the first time for most of the kids in your cabin. You are not the only one. It will make you feel better to know that.

3. I was mostly nervous about the nighttime. My Momâs advice to me was âall you have to do is make it through the night and then you will have so much fun in the day.â The days are so much fun at camp. Remember this at night.

4. Try talking to your counselors if youâre feeling homesick. It feels good and they can make you feel better. They were also first-time campers â a really, really long time ago, though!

5. When youâre packing for camp, collect some pictures of your family and bring some tape so that you can have them on the wall at your bunk.
You know the list of things they tell you to pack? When it comes to clothing, bring extra t-shirts BUTâ¦

6. Donât take your favourite t-shirt. You will probably lose it.

7. My Mom and I had a special deal that we would both go outside at 9:30 every night and look up at the stars and say goodnight. When I looked up, I knew that she was looking up too.

8. Take a notebook so that you can write down the phone numbers and email addresses of your new friends to stay in touch until next year.

9. Make the most of every day. It goes so fast youâll be home before you know it and instead of wishing you were home youâll be wishing you are back at camp.

-Other tips about packing-

*if your camp does not have places for you to store your stuff such as cubbies, dressers, closets etc. check to see if your camp allows you to bring trunks. they make it a lot easier to get your stuff
*pre plan your outfits then put them in ziplock bags. it makes it a lot easier to grab an outfit and get changed rather then seeing which outfits go best at the time.
*Bring your packing list along with you so at the end of how ever long your going you can make sure your leaving with everything you brought.

I hope you have lots of fun at camp! this will be my 4th year and im leaving in a week like you. (i came up with the list myself) Im known to over pack, so if you feel anything is on the list that is unnecessary you dont have to bring it.

What should I get my friends for Christmas?

bunnnyy

I have about 8 close friends that I was planning on buying Christmas presents for. I was thinking that i would spend about 15 dollars on each friend.

My friends are pretty girly and they are from ages 14-16. I just need some general ideas. Im so stuck on this because I always buy nail polish and stuff every year.

Any Ideas? Thanksss!

Answer
well...This is the joy of Christmas..... you don't need lot of cash to make a gift...
You could try something symbolic ... something to remind her about The Christmas from 2009.
A little tree (like 25 cm ) a snowing globe ... Forget what people told you that 15$ is too low for Christmas gifts.
I had bough lots of presents in my life under 10$ to boys and girls and I found that not all the time the size, the cost or the value matters.
When you give a little present must be from heart , and something like a surprise .... don't just give it to her ...make a little story.

" Last night Santa had visited me ...and it seems that Rudolf was ill ....got the flew....He also told me that he can't come to you ...but he give me this Christmas gift to give you"

What is the proper name (if there is one) of the acrylic paint that they use to make 3-D acrylic nail art?

nail art names image

Sarah S

I'm not sure if its just called 3-D nail art paint, or whatever, but I want to know what its called.

And also, where might they sell it, and would it be expensive to buy?

Answer
I think this might be what you're on about, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pro-24-Colours-3D-Nail-Art-Glitter-Acrylic-Tip-Pen-New_W0QQitemZ160278697383QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item160278697383&_trkparms=72%3A1121%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Ebay is the only place I have seen them. I have bought them and used them and they're pretty good but not for on natural nails unless you have an hour spare to sit and let it set properly..it really does take that long before they are set hard enough not to smudge. Also, some of the colours just don't work well enough to do anything but dots with them...they won't drag into a shape etc.

Can someone work in a nail shop and just do nail art?

theirrepla

I am about to start school next month. I'm going to get my Nail Tech license. Right now I'm having a hard time financially, the only thing I am really good at is doing nail art. Is it possible for me to be able to work in a nail shop and do nail art?

Answer
Sure it's possible. It just depends on if the shop wants to hire a person just to do one thing. Maybe you could be willing to do pedicures as well. Where I go they do have one person who just does that. Check around & get your name out there. Good luck!!

Would black finger nail polish seem unprofessional?

nail polish unprofessional

nail polish unprofessional image

cowgal1994

Next week I have a very important business meeting and I want to appear confident and professional in front of my colleagues. Usually my nails are painted black but now I'm wondering how that will affect their perception of me. Today my nails chipped away because of a long day at the pool so I'm wondering- should I repaint them black or leave them be? What message does black finger nail polish send about me as a person? Also do you have any tips as to dressing professional? Thanks in advance! :D

Answer
Black says "goth". Something that blends in with your skin tone or plain clear or a French manicure would give a much more professional look.

Is this unprofessional to wear to work?

Pomlover

Nail polish?? I have heard so many things about nail polish. Is it tacky to wear nail polish, particularily a dark shade to work, if you work at a bank that is.
my first day is not until monday, so i think it would be wise just to go with a clear coat until I find out all of the rules. I know the dress code is pretty strict about looking professional.

Answer
Most companies dont care if it goes with your outfit, but if its chipped and stuff like that in noticable colors they will dislike that.

How to make a stretch canvas?

nail art 60 image

Jeffrey

I am currently an art student and my teachers let me use 18X24 as the largest size for free. The bigger ones i have to pay for. And the big ones at the store cost about the same or even more.

So does anybody know the cheap way to make stretch canvas.
The medium i use on canvas is mainly acrylic.

If that has to do with anything when making a your own stretch canvas..

and i noticed im gonna need a staple gun...wonder how much those cost....

Answer
For the frame use 1"x2" pine - dressed, fingerjointed radiata (the cheapest kind). (My friend uses garden stakes, so any handy timber is good enough.) Cut the two pairs of sides together to make sure they are same length. Use a tenon saw and mitre block to cut them. The pieces for the long side are two thicknesses less than the lenght of the side they make, since they will butt against the peices for the short sides at the corners of the frame.

Apply glue where the the peices join at the corners fo the frame (long peices butted against short peices) and hammer long nails through the short peices into the ends of the long peices. Make sure the ends are even with one another onall sides and that the corners are square.

Make corner braces from masonite board - right-angled triangles (squares divided diagonally in half). They don't need to be very big. Glue and nail them to the back of the frame at each corner with small nail tacks.

If the canvas is very big (say, over a metre long on any side), put a cross-mmber (same timber used for frame) halfway along and between those sides. Put the cross member a few milimetres further to the back of the frame so that the canfvas will not touch it. RAsp the inside front edge ofthe frame to take the sharp edge off, since the canvas may chafe against this edge when you paint on it and possible braek or leave a crease mark.

For canvas use 12 ounce cotton duck. It is toughand has an even weave. It is about $15/metre or less if you buy from a wholesaler (who will sell you smaller lengths if you don't want a whole big roll). Cheaper canvas is okay if you want it. (The best thing to use is Irish linen.)

Cut the canvas to size, leaving enough over the dimensions of the frame to wrap around to the back of the frame and for you to be able to pull it when stapling it there. Use a staple gun which takes reasonably heavy staples to fix the canvas along the back side of the frame. (probale about $50 or $60 for a good one.) Start at he middle of one side, then the middle of the opposite side, then the middle of one of the other pair of sides and the opposite side to that, progressively working your way out to the ends of each side as you alternate between them all. In this way you are closing in on the corners from both sides. Pull the canvas with reasonable tension s you staple on opposite sides. Not extremely tight, because when you put the primer on it will wet the canvas and make it shrink, so that it will tighten even more. If you pull it too tight while stapling, the canvas will bow the edges of the frame in after you prime it and perhaps tear under the strain.

When you reach the corners, fold each neatly against one side of the corner and staple the fold down. Just pull the loose canvas away from the couners and fold it in a little triangle tab at the side of the frame.

You can prime using white acrylic house paint. Another idea is clear sealant paint (bondcrete), which will allow the natural colour of the bare canvas to show through, giving a nice "toned" canvas. to get a tomed canvas you can also mix some paint colour with the white acrylic according to what lighness or darkness and colour you want. light burnt sienna tone is good for portraits and figure paintings. This is an alternative to toning the canvas at the start of the painting.

Using a house painting brush, apply the paint evenly to the canvas in alternate strokes parallel to all sides, starting at the middle and working out to the edges. Don't put a lot of paint on the brush. Go over the same area with more than one stroke to make sure the paint covers and soaks into the surface of the canvas, sealing it properly. To check for "pinholes" in the paint, hold it up to the light and youwill clearly see them. Paint the sides of the canvas too. You will notice the canvas start to tighten like a drum soon after the primer goes on. Then leave it to dry.

This whould be fairly cheap, but it will be a nice looking, durable canvas. If you are doing studies or practising painting, canvas paper (primed canvas glued to thin cardboard) is good enough and can be glued to masonite if you wish to frame it. Making a canvas is overkill for these purposes and difficult to carry and store.

Wanting to withdraw from the Art institute of Pittsburg online?

Hehe

How can I go about this & what will happen ? Anyone experience this before ?

Answer
From a financial aid point of view, if you complete 60% of the term, you will earn 100% of the federal aid for that term. However, if you withdraw before completing 60%, the school must do a calculation to determine how much of your financial aid you earned for the time that you completed. They can keep that amount and apply it to your charges, but they must return the remainder to the federal government. Depending on the school's refund policy, you may be charged for any portion of the term that wasn't covered because funds had to be returned. Most for profit schools have a refund policy that nails you for the entire term if you attend beyond a short period of time (such as 1 week), so don't be surprised if the bill is large.

The school will have a process for formally withdrawing. Make sure you follow that and receive written confirmation from the school that you are formally withdrawn. If you do not, you may be considered still enrolled and the school may charge you.

I am trying to grow my finger nails out, and I had them almost at the length i wanted, and I chipped my thumb nail. It looked stupid, and I had to even them all out.

Can some one answer the following?

1: How can I make them stronger? Mine always peel in layers, which makes them weak at the tips and then they break!
2: How to get them to grow FAST
3: Any more info on how I can do this?

Answer
You need to make your nails stronger. So, give your nails regular manicures. Start by removing and polish (use nail polish removers without acetone) soak your nails in milk or lemon juice, these serve to whiten the nails (I find lemon juice the best) and makes them stronger and shinier. Strong nails = long nails.

You can also soak them in olive oil for ten minutes and then wipe away excess oil.

When filing your nails, only file in one direction, not backwards and forwards as this can make the nail split. don't file down the sides of your nail! This makes them weaker! 'Square' nails are stronger than nails that have been rounded over. Mine are round because I like the shape but they always break and I am constantly repairing them!!

Always coat your nails with something, it can help if you use coloured nail polish when you're trying to grow them out as you are more aware of them and notice them more. Polish will protect them a bit when you are doing different things. try not to let your hands soak in water for to long, use gloves maybe if you do have toput them in water for a long while. Water weakens nails.

Use Sally Hensens 'Hard as nails'. Sorry to sound like a sales rep but it's SO good! ifyou use this as a base coat under and other polish you decided to put on, it really does make a difference! Alternatively, you can use nail hardeners that soak into the nail. I also have 'Mavala scientifique- nail hardener'. It's pretty amazing!

Eat lots of protein, nails ARE protein!!

NEVER use your nails as tools!!!

AND if you break a nail, and it has not broken all the way through you can repair it until it grows out. Min often break at the base so it sucks when one breaks so I usually just repair it. I just get a little (little) dab of super glue (You can actually get proper glue for this at the store which is what I use now) and put it on the top of the break, be really careful though! It can get messy :D hahaha

What website sells real discounted Essie nail polish?

heatherett

I tried http://www.8ty8beauty.com and it didn't come up =[
Do you know of any others? I'm looking to collect a certain brand of nail polish. OPI is too expensive. How is China Glaze's quality? Thank you.

Answer
China Glaze is great, the quality is comparable to OPI and it is much cheaper. I buy China Glaze at Sally Beauty Supplies (http://www.sallybeauty.com/). For $5, you can become a beauty club member for a year and save on all their products. With the membership, each bottle is only about $4-5. In addition to discounts on all products, you get coupons! They also carry a few other lines that are good quality with a nice range of color that are also affordable (Orly and FingerPaints).

I don't know where you live, but at my local chain grocery store (HEB), I can find OPI on sale, 2 for $6 sometimes. Only the nicer HEBs carry them, though, so I would recommend checking around your nicer grocery stores and they might have a sale on OPI's.

I have never used Essie so I don't know where to buy them, but sometimes you can find good deals on lots of nail polish on ebay!

Good luck! :)

What happened to the man? What did the woman with nail polish do?

Answer
He fell asleep, and didn't watch the road for the woman who was driving while putting on nail polish. The car traveled over into oncoming traffic and was hit head on by a semi truck, which was hauling steel pipes. The woman, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, flew through the windshield, and hit the ground, and six of the one ton steel pipes came down on her. She became a permanent part of the pavement. Only her wig and her finger nail polish were left intact.
As for the man, he woke up in time to see the truck coming at them, and he opened his door and jumped out. All he got out of the ordeal was a broken leg.
