Does Anyone Have Any Ideas For A Cool&Sweet 17 Birthday Party?

Jesus Rock

I'm planning a 17th birthday party for my friend, and I have 100.00 spending limit! I want to plan a cheap but cool and hip party!! Does anyone have any ideas for games, snacks, themes, or decorations?

Answer
You can have a bbq with hamburgers and hot dogs. You can then set up an ice cream bar with vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream and some toppings. Sprinkles, whipped cream, a jar of cherries, and chocolate sauce. You can go to the dollar store and get the tall sundae glasses or just use wine glasses from your house.

You can do each other hair and nails. Manicures and pedicures. Ask your friends to bring their nail polishes and files and order out some pizza, and you can even do the ice cream still or bake a cake or some cupcakes and have your friends over for a spa night.

You can camp out in your back yard. Tell your friends to bring their sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, etc. Get some music, flashlights, etc, and have a night out in the yard.

You can also do a dinner party at your house. If you and your friends know how to cook, invite them over and cook dinner from appetizers to dessert and have a sit down dinner. Or ask your mom for help and cook with her and ask your friends over for a more formal sit down dinner. Make up place cards and a menu, and set the table formally and have a dinner party for you and your friends.

Have a taco bar. Make tacos with all the toppings for you and your friends, get a pinata, and rent some movies and hang out.

Have a girls night. Eat pizza, ice cream, junk food, chips, etc, and hang out. Rent some movies. Tell your friends to bring their pillows and blankets, and pjs, and have a lounge night with your friends. Doing what YOU want!

You can do an around the world dinner party. Tacos from Mexico, pizza from Italy, and so on and and have your friends over for an around the world birthday dinner.

I hope some of these ideas help. Happy Birthday!

Why does nail polish get little bubbles in it when drying on my nails?

ImpaledUpo

My nail polish on my nails does this after applying the second coat and it dries with little bubbles and isnt smooth. Why does it do this, and how can I prevent it?

Answer
The nail polish bubbles because you haven't waited long enough for the first coat to dry, your polish is old, or it's formula is bad. To prevent the bubbles from forming, don't shake your bottle, roll it between your palms. Then when it's all incorporated, apply a thin layer of polish (you can always go back and add more layers if you want to build up the color.) Wait for this layer to dry. When it is dry to the touch or you feel it is done, paint your second layer and once again wait for this to dry. If you need a third or fourth layer, I suggest waiting even more time than you did with the first coat because you now have more polish on your nail, which takes longer to dry.

Belly chains are becoming super popular for bikinis! If you look in some Victoria Secret magazines Candice Swanepoel is wearing them and now I want one! Vintage swimsuits like the ones Marilyn Monroe used to wear are becoming more noticeable.

Also look at the new nail trends, colors, and art that are out. You can find some looks on Instagram or Pinterest. Girls are getting new designs and making the shape of the nails almond or pointy which is cute. Different colored manicure tips and making one nail a different color is also trending.

Q. I have had the same ugly purple nail polish on my toenails since before I found out I was pregnant (Im 9 weeks) and I want to remove it & polish my nails. I asked my dr & she said go ahead, but Ive read on other sites that its not safe. Im thinking the remover & the chemicals in the nail polish cant possibly be safe, can it?

Answer
Trust your doctor over what you read on the internet. Just make sure that you're in a well ventilated area, or even outside, and don't just sit there and sniff the remover or polish. You'll be fine.

Is it okay to paint your nails while you could be pregnant?

Because I may be and I'm painting my nails and I look closely while doing it, also is nail polish remover safe?

Answer
just open the window or do it in a well ventilated area.

nail art with tape image

Hello Kitt

Well I'm going to paint my nails soon and I wonder if anyone has suggestions for what fairly easy nail art I can do? Here are the materials I have:
- 1 white nail art pen
- tape to make straight lines
- those circle things for folder holes to make round things
- and of course nail polish

So what should I do?

Answer
Go for something wild like an animal print:) all you need is..
-a toothpickk
-black nail polish
-white nail polish..
Paint the whole nail white..then with the tooth pick..dip it n the black polish and draw slightly zig zag lines like zebra strips:)
simple:)

How to do the same nail art designs?

x.moi.x

Basically, I do a lot of Nail art designs on others - for free, I don't own a business or anything (i'm 14) - and I get lots of comments saying my designs are good etc. But i mainly do toe nails, i would like to do hand nails but I find it really hard to continue the same design with the same proportions etc. Does anyone know how I can fix this??
By the way, I use the nail art pens you get, not airbrush so it's all by hand

Answer
I would use like a sticker type thing...Or you can use tape to be precise sometimes

How do I take care of my Nail Art Brushes Properly?

Miss N e k

I'v been using nail art brushes for a while now and I just got a really nice brush set with lots of small fine tipped brushes, my problem with them is no matter how carefull I am about cleaning them and storing them little hairs on my brushes will get pulled and tugged and not be together the tip, so when I use them I will get small lines of single hairs having polish on them. So any good tips in nail brush care? :]

Answer
Ooh, nail art brushes are super delicate. Here's a trick you can try:

1. Nail art is done with nail polish, of course, and nail polish will only break down in nail polish remover. So put about a centimeter's height of nail polish remover in a clean glass (not plastic cup, the acetone may dissolve it).

2. Get ahold of some clothespins. You'll need two for each brush.

3. Dip the tip of the brush in the glass so that the entire brush head is submerged but not touching the bottom of the glass (you want to preserve that fine tip). Put more remover in if necessary.

4. Use two clothespins to keep the brush at this height. They may tip the brush at an angle, but as long as it's submerged and not pressed against the bottom of the glass, that's all you need.

5. Check back periodically to see if the polish has loosened. Gently try to remove as much as possible. If any stubborn polish remains, put the brush back in.

Of course, this really only works if you don't use plastic or synthetic brushes, since the acetone can damage them.

Answer
Throw pillows, plush blankets, and a comfy chair for her room. CD's or an iPod or an iPod gift card. Clothes. Cute Jackets or coat (it's getting colder)...shoes (flats or converse, whichever she prefers). Purse, makeup (mascara or lipgloss, if she is allowed), DVD's anklets or bracelets, nail polish, posters, hair ties (I always lose mine), sparkly hairbrush, hair barrettes or mini jawclips and headband, crafty stuff for when she is bored, sparkle gel pens, jewel stickers (to deck out her walls or binders or notebooks for school, mini organizers for her room, pencil cases, necklaces...the possibilities are pretty much endless...a girl can never have too much stuff apparently.

How to clean out makeup?

elephant

I have a lot of makeup that i have collected over the years. I need to clean it out!! I would like to know how I should sort/organize/clean it. Also please tell me ways to reuse my old makeup. (how can i make another use for something I don't use anymore EX... Use eyeshadow to make nail polish)
THANKS!!!

Answer
I would keep some of each of your fullest. Like your fullest blush container, fullest nail polish bottle. It depends on how many you have, but if you have ten bottles of lipstick and you don't wear a lot of it, keep three or four. But it you have eight containers of eyeshadow and you wear a lot, keep four or five. To organize it, get a makeup organizer. I don't know if you want to spend a ton, but there's a really good one called Caboodles Pro Cosmetic Case @ Target. If you don't like it, just google makeup organizer case. Hope I helped!!!!!!!!!!!

how did women fashion in the 1920s reflects women rights?

nail polish 1920s

nail polish 1920s image

Kayla Mald

How did it reflect new freedoms many women were enjoying in the twenties?

Answer
The fashions of the 1920's reflect changes which had already begun in the nineteen-teens when women's skirts became a bit shorter and some women began to bob their hair. While the '20's saw these trends carried to extremes never before seen in history, the most dominant theme of women's fashions in the '20's is probably that of overt sexuality.

During this decade, it became acceptable for women to discard their corsets, to wear nail-polish and visible makeup, to show bare arms by day and bare legs anytime. Semi-nudity was flaunted with the conspicuously rolled stockings of the flappers.

Being liberated from corsets and multiple layers of clothing freed women in terms of their freedom of movement, and also freed them from the burdens of buying and maintaining bulky, elaborate clothing. The explicit sexuality of '20's clothing reflected the new social norms of the post First World War era.

what are some good Ideas for 1950s Pin Up Girl Hair?

littlehips

I bought a 1950s style pin up girl costume (army) and i have short chin length type hair and it comes with a hat. Any ideas? Help!!!

Answer
Finger waves were more 1920s, but a much looser version was still around in the fifties. Since you are going as an army chick it would by much more no-nonsense, sensible type of hair.

You could go for a very smoothed bob since you are wearing a hat. You could sweep a bit of hair across you forehead and pin it to make a smooth, cute fringe. (um...bangs?)

Since the hat mostly covers your hair, and you have short hair anyway,
i would think the make uo would be more important, which in the 1950s was glamorous, gorgeous with big red lips, a little blush and blemish free complexion.

heres a website: http://makeup.lovetoknow.com/1950's_Makeup

"Hot Products of the â50s

There were certain 1950âs makeup products that defined the trends of the time. They included:

* Bright Red Lipstick/Nail Polish: Everywhere you went; 1950's women were donning scarlet lips and matching fingernails.
* Pan Cake Foundation: A much-thicker version of todayâs foundation, it covered blemishes and imperfections with a thick coating.
* Liquid Eyeliner: It was a stylish 1950âs makeup trend to wear a thick, bold line across the top eyelid, accompanied by two coats of black mascara.
* Rosy Blush: Two circles on the apples of the cheeks, the blush added back some of the color taken away with the foundation. "

What are products that do not test on animals?

nail polish not tested on animals

nail polish not tested on animals image

paws

To be more specific I need to change all my essential items to those from companies that do not test on animals. Here is a list of the main ones Im looking for.
Shaving cream
toothpaste
toothbrush
lotion
makeup
shampoo and other hair products
contact solution
nail polish and nail polish remover
make up remover
toilet paper
paper towels
tissue paper (like kleenex)
razors

Any answers would be greatly appreciated! (:

Answer
You have lots of sources for cruelty-free shaving cream, lotions and other cosmetics. Nail polish remover is more difficult to find but I think No-Miss has 1 & they have lots of nail polish colors & other kinds of make up.

Good cruelty free companies include:
Jason (hair products, shaving cream, skin care, toothpaste etc.)
Aubry (hair care, skin care, some cosmetics)
Kiss My Face (skin care, soap, hair care)
No-Miss (cosmetics, nail polish)
Ecco Bella (cosmetics, cologne, hair care including *yummy* vanilla shampoo

Online stores (also check the websites of specific companies):
Cosmo's Vegan Shoppe
Pangea

Urban Decay is a bit pricy but has wonderful cosmetics & the vegan ones are marked as such.

Caution:
The Body Shop is famous for not testing on animals, but has been bought by a larger corporation that *does* animal testing, if I remember right.

Most bar soap contains animal ingredients, not to mention that many soap manufacturers test on animals. Watch out for words like "tallowate," which is derived from cow fat.

Someone said that food isn't tested on animals, but unfortunately some companies do test for some bizarre reason (maybe to receive govt. subsidies, as if they need them). POM pomegranite juice is one of them, and so is Mars candy, so no more M&M's for me. This testing involvces killing the animals to see if the product has an effect on muscle development etc. as well as killing a number of "control" animals for comparison.

Sorry, not sure which paper companies do or don't test.

Would girls have worn any kind of jeans? Or shorts of any kind? (Were tank tops invented then? If so, would women have worn them?) I know if they did, it would certainly not be like how ours look nowadays.
Would they ever owned/driven/rode a motorcycle?

Any other info, like hairstyles would be great!

Most of the time girls wore skirts or dresses. They would have worn a nice blouse with a skirt, no tanks or pants:P

Whats the different between gel, shellac and acrylic nails?

nail polish vs gel
on Dont Get Ripped Off By Your Nail Salon
nail polish vs gel image

AllySunshi

I have gotten the gel nails before and now I have the actual fake nails. I don't know much about nails when I get my nails done every 2 weeks. I want to know the difference so I know what I'm getting and I can ask for different things. Whats everything I need to know about nails?

Answer
As far as gel vs acrylic, I found this very informative video for you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBYgEzUQusQ

The lady above explains the differences between gel and acrylic much better than I could.

Shellac, though is kinda like nail polish. It's gel, but can be easily done at home:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCpXTHjYADQ

It's like... if gel and polish had a daughter, she would be Shellac.

What do you suggest for nails that look short, clean, and classy?

Q. Should I get gel nails and trim them down accordingly or just wait for my real nails to grow? Looking for more of a French manicure.

Answer
If you get any type of fake nail, gel is the best way to go if you don't want to ruin your natural nail. It is, however, not as strong as acrylic, but it looks way better and shinier.
Keeping your real nails up is cheaper. A manicure every two weeks vs. fill-ins every two weeks; the manicure will cost less. Polish will not stay as long on your natural nail as it will on the fake nail, though.

I suggest if you're looking to just grow your real nail out, get gel nails until your natural nail grows out. Then take the tips off and start getting manicures or just an overlay.

nail polish 2 weeks lasting
on Beauty & le Chic: This weeks nails... Pink Friday! Nicki Minaj for ...
nail polish 2 weeks lasting image

Brooke

Also I heard you have to get gel polish replaced every like 2 weeks do you have to?

Answer
Gel nail polish is a thicker more 'gel' like substance rather than the normal nail polish.
It has a better quality and will last around 2 - 4 weeks, it's much more shiny than regular nail polish and has to be dried under the ultra violet light.
The only downside to gel nail polish is that once it's been on for 2/3 weeks, you're nail will start to grow out of the polish. So you'll end up with the lovely nail coating then a line of your own natural nail growing under it. Also, if it does get chipped it ends up damaging your nail to the extreme. Most of your natural nail coating comes off along with the gel polish.
I really do prefer a decent branded normal polish to gel polish, less damage for half the price. You only have to re-apply it when it chips off.
Hope I helped :) x

When it comes to removing nail art from my fingers, I just put acetone into a little paper cup, but my toes are harder. I don't dare try to stick toes into a cup or I might knock it over onto the floor!

The art stuff(rhinestones, decals) is really hard to remove and it took me over an hour the last time to take it off my toenails. How do you remove yours?

Answer
Just soak a cottonball in nail polish remover and hold it to your toenails for a minimum of 5 minutes.
for it to actually stay on without you holding it, use aluminum foil.

How do I get started with a small nail painting business?

I don't know where to start... I'm almost 13 and I'm really good at nail art. how can I promote my new business and get the word out and what are some ways I can do this and make money?

Answer
I wish it were as easy as just having the talent like you do. However, the government has stepped in and requires you to pay a lot of money to an accredited school, go to that school for about 900 hours, pass a state exam which will also cost money, and then be able to work on clients. But you couldn't do it from your own home unless you have a special permit from the city that your home is also partly used for commercial space.

But then that messes up your parents taxes. Welcome to the wonderful world of bureaucracy.

Just have fun doing what you love and don't let these fact discourage you. It's not always about money. Trading is fun also.

You have a desire to have your own business and that might mean you are a future entrepreneur. Keep that spirit even though it might mean having to jump through hoops.

Answer
Mosquito bite

Mosquitoes go through four stages in their life-cycle: egg, larva, pupa, and adult or imago. Adult females lay their eggs in standing water, which can be a salt-marsh, a lake, a puddle, a natural reservoir on a plant, or an artificial water container such as a plastic bucket. The first three stages are aquatic and last 5â14 days, depending on the species and the ambient temperature; eggs hatch to become larvae, then pupae. The adult mosquito emerges from the pupa as it floats at the water surface. Adults live for 4â8 weeks.[7]

Mosquitoes have mouthparts that are adapted for piercing the skin of plants and animals. While males typically feed on nectar and plant juices, the female needs to obtain nutrients from a "blood meal" before she can produce eggs.

There are about 3,500 species of mosquitoes found throughout the world. In some species of mosquito, the females feed on humans, and are therefore vectors for a number of infectious diseases affecting millions of people per year.[8][9] Some scientists believe that eradicating mosquitoes would not have serious consequences for any ecosystems.

Remove the tick properly. Using sharp pointed tweezers, or specially made tick tweezers, grasp the tick as close to your skin as possible, as close to its embedded mouthparts as you can. If you squeeze the body or head, you risk compressing the guts and salivary glands and expelling even more organisms through their mouth into your body.

Do not twist the tick or turn the tweezers as you pull out the tick. Pull out straight with a slow, steady motion. Twisting may force more organisms into your body, and may result in the head or more of the mouthparts being left in your body.

Do not apply any substances to the tick before removing it - no alcohol or nail polish, no petroleum jelly or other ointments, and do not try to burn it out or otherwise convince to let go of you. It won't let go. It will just happily keep on sucking your blood and pumping pathogens into you.
Save the tick or any nymphs or larvae that you find on you. Store them in a clean glass jar or film container, tightly lidded and labeled with the date you pulled the tick off you and the location you were when you acquired the tick.

Ideally, you should have the tick tested right away to see what it contains. Ixodes pacificus is currently the only western tick associated with Babesia, Bartonella, Borrelia and Ehrlichia, but other ticks, such as the Dermacentor variabilis (American Dog tick) can carry pathogenic organisms causing diseases in humans and domestic pets (in this case, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and tularemia); Dermacentor andersonii is also a vector for RMSF.

A good rule of thumb: have all ticks tested regardless of species. There is a fee associated with tick testing.
