What are easier and faster ways to stop biting your finger nails?

nail polish tricks

nail polish tricks image
Q. I've tried many things to stop biting my nails. I've tried promising myself to stop biting this nail for today then the next the next day... and I've tried the nail polish tricks, but, it just doesn't work.... I really want to stop biting my nails, and fast! I don't want to buy nail polish every time my bottle runs out. Its so frustrating to have short nails!!!!

Answer
There is supposedly a "polish" that has a bitter taste. But a $ solution is to have acrylic or gel nails over your natural nails. The problem is when you stop your nails can be very brittle but then putting polish on them helps. Been there!

How to stop cheap rhinestone and metal from changing colour?

meelio@roc

Hi all,

I bought cheap metal and rhinestone buckle-like things for a decorative piece for my wedding favours. I'm going to be hot glueing them onto a tin candle with some ribbon this weekend, and was just wondering what I could do to prevent them from changing colour the way cheap things do. Does the old clear nail polish trick work?

The wedding is May 2012, so they only have to make it 3 months lol. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Yes, clear nail polish is the cheapest and easiest way to prevent your cheap ornamentation from discoloring and looking so cheep. I use it all the time in craft projects and it works just fine, lasts a good while too.

I'm looking for a nail polish pen that can be used to make designs and small details, not the 1 stroke nail polish pens.

Answer
honestly, that one chick that answered already is right. The salley hansen nail pens are the best. they are about 8 dollars each and are totally worth it. i bought some for my sister and she made these beautiful leopard spots on her toes. do urself a favor and dont purchase anything online. thats the worst thing to do. just drive over to walgreens, savons, target, or even walmart and buy youself a pair!

:D

Do you know of any cute nail designs I could do?

xoxo

Recently I have became really interested in making my nails look super cute and cool. I have long, natural nails and I make them a square-shape so they look like fake nails. I was just wondering if anyone had any pictures, videos or ideas of some cute nail designs. I tried making leopard print on my nails using hot pink as a base and then silver and black for the spots and it looked great. Thanks!

Answer
Go to these websites:

http://www.funkytrend.com/?s=funky+new+nail+designs
http://rocksterize.blogspot.com/2009/07/playing-around-with-nail-designs.html
http://coolnailsart.com/black-butterfly-nail-art-for-toes/

I think it looks pretty good.

Or try my designs:

1.Swirly Flowers
Paint the nails hot pink or black.
If you chose hot pink, make swirly black designs on it.
If you chose black, add hot pink swirly flowers.
When it is dry, paint 2 clear coatings on top.

2. Stripy and Nice
Paint the nails your favorite color (not silver, gold, black or white.)
Then paint a stripy design in the colors I said not to do.
Add a clear coating.

3. Simple but pretty

Paint your nails clear, when the paint is still wet, sprinkle in a little bit of nail glitter.
Be careful, don't get any on the the tips.
Paint the tips white.

:) I hope you like it.

Answer
"Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board": The basic premise of this game is to have one person lie on the floor while everyone else sits on their knees around her with both hands slightly under her. There is one "Storyteller" who sits by the head and tells a made up story about the person on the floor's life and her "untimely demise." At the end of the story, everyone chants "Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board" repeatedly as they lift her off of the ground. The idea is to have everyone believing that "spirits" are helping to lift her off the ground (in reality, she is probably being lifted because of all the people helping to lift her). Take turns, and tell a story about everyone!

Junk Food Frenzy: This is a great game that will keep your tummy full and keep you laughing. Dig out some of your favorite desserts and copy the instructions on index cards. Buy ingredients for all the desserts and place them on the kitchen counter. Shuffle the cards and divide the guests into two teams. Have players take turns drawing cards. Each player reads the card and takes the listed ingredient. When all the ingredients have been distributed, give the teams thirty minutes to prepare a dish using the ingredients accumulated by the individual players. When the dishes are complete, have each player taste and eat the results, then vote on the best tasting dessert! For a fun variation, give both teams the same ingredients and see what different desserts they come up with (without using recipes).

Do-It! Dice: Buy or find two square cardboard boxes and paint them both white. On each side of the square, write a command or a stunt, such as "Sing our National Anthem," "Hop up and down," "Spin around

in circles," and so on. Have the kids gather in a circle with the "Do-It! Dice" in the middle. Have one player roll BOTH dice to determine his/her stunts, then have the player perform both stunts AT THE SAME TIME. This should provide lots of laughs.

Movie Trivia: Have everyone watch a video; then make up trivia questions about the movie they just watched. Have a contest to see who can come up with the most correct answers. You can also read through teen magazines and collect trivia about the latest stars. Then quiz the partygoers to see who knows the most about each star.

"Grabbit": Place some small objects on a table, such as a bag of candy, a book, a single CD, a stuffed animal, a set of fake nails, and so on -- enough for each player. Let each player name a favorite card game, such as fish, rummy, spoons, hearts, war, etc. Gather the players around the table and remove all but one prize, setting the others aside. Play one of the card games; the winner gets the prize. Replace the prize, and start a new game.

Panic Word: Write down 100 words on index cards (one word per index card), such as blink, stare, lint, thread, plate, bra, shoelace -- any words you like. Stack the cards and put them in the center of the room. Divide the players into 2 teams and seat them opposite each other. Set the timer or stopwatch for one minute. Have the first player from Team One draw a card from the pile and give clues to the word to his/her teammates before the timer ends the play. If the word is "blink", the team member might say, "What you do if dust gets in your eyes?" Players from Team One try to guess the word; if they are successful before the time is up, they get a point. If the timer runs out and the word is not guessed, the other team gets a point. Take turns until all the cards are gone, then add up points to see who wins.

Who Am I?: Write the names of famous people on index cards and tape one card to the back of each guest. Have everyone walk around in the same room, and instruct them not to mention the name on each person's back, but to talk to everyone as if they are the person on their card. As people begin to correctly guess their identity, they have to continue to treat the people who still don't know their identity like the people whose name is taped to their back. When everyone guesses their "true identity" then the game is over.

HIGH HEEL RACE
Two pairs of high heel shoes. Have everyone divided into two teams. The object of the race is to set up an obstacle course which the person has to walk around (no running!) On "GO!" the first players on each team put on their high heel shoes and walk the obstacle course. They return and the next person in line puts on the high heels and walks the course. This continues and the first team to return first wins!

You can play a game called Beauty Queens. You let your guest put on make-up without a mirror. The most dreadful looking one wins.

you can play salon it go like this someone blind folds you and does you nails, hair and make up

I'm bored and it is 9:00 pm an what can I do for like 10-20 minuets?

Why is my nail topcoat making the bottom coat change color?

I just got two new nail polishes. One is China Glaze 'Bluebells Ring' and the other is Rimmel London Lasting Finish Pro clear topcoat.
Odd things have been happening.
First, I used the Rimmel as a base coat and put the China Glaze over top. The China Glaze because slightly striped with silver. When I used nail polish remover on it, it turned completely silver and was hard to get off. The next time, I used China Glaze as a base coat and Rimmel as a top coat. As soon as I put the Rimmel on, it started making silver splotches on my nails! What's happening here?! Should I stop using those two? D: Please don't recommend different brands, just tell me what's happening and if its happened to you.

Answer
What it sounds like is that when you put the top coat on it is making the nail polish change colour. The China Glaze nail polish isn't the problem, it's probably the top coat. It might be because Rimmel isn't one of the best brands you could use but this doesn't mean that all of the Rimmel nail polishes are not good. I have some and they are really nice but maybe you could just get a better top coat. Every top coat is different, some smear the polish, some take off some of the polish and some are good at don't do any of this. What I would recommend is just getting a new top coat. I would really suggest you get one with a good brand. Here are some suggestions-

What nail colors are in style right now?

BlueEye

What colors and types of nail polish are really stylish right now? I'm bored with my usual plain red or pink nails... I do them myself by the way :-) Thanks!

Answer
Tired of the pink and red, huh? I have been sporting french forever! Fact is..polished nails are really big right now..and I have actually been doing a red nail alot..instead of doing the now trendy red lip..I do red nails instead...sorry you are feeling your polishes are played out.

One color that is all the rage this season is what some fashion guru's are calling "griege"..that beige gray color...dark polishes...variations of black or gray..like gun metal...A popular color for many people is "My Private Jet" by Opi..I think it became popular with stars like Kim K wearing it. It is sort of a dark brown..black..gray al in one. Color is big...bright color...glitter polishes...bold...anything really goes now! Brands such as OPI..OPI by Sephora..Essie..China Glaze..and Nicole have a huge selection of colors that you can browse. I sometime look at these popular brands then go over to the .99-$2.99 polishes & try to find a color match. I'm sorry..$9 for a polish that you don't like is a big & sad waste of money to me. If applied, layering several thin layers..I think most "cheapies" do just fine. A drugstore brand that has a pretty wide range of colors is the brand "Sinful Colors" at Walgreens, they retail for normally $2.99, but they often have them on sale for $1.99. So..have fun..be creative..try something different & wishing you a flawless job on your nails.

How do i do water nail art on my real nails without it sticking to my whole finger?

Kristie I

I want to do water nail art on my nails. But when i stick my finger in the water the polish sticks to my whole finger.

Answer
There's no way to avoid getting some of the polish onto your finger. You just have to be ready with a cotton pad/ball soaked in polish remover to clean up your finger.

So, as soon as you remove your finger from the water, start cleaning. Don't let it dry, or it'll be a nightmare to remove.

You can also try marbling (I assume you're trying to water marble) just as easily with a dotting tool. It's a mess-free alternative with similar affects.

1. Pick your base color, and how ever many other colors you'd like to marble with. I usually choose a bright color for a base, and then a darker color (in the same color family) and white.
2. Apply a generous coat of your base color, it's better to work with colors that have good pigmentation, sheer polishes will not give you the desired effect.
3. Immediately drop 1-2 drops of each marble color onto the nail.
4. Take your dotting tool and make figure 8's, or whatever other marbling pattern you'd like to make.
5. Tap your finger on a flat surface to ensure the nail polish lies flat (good quality nail polish will even itself out) and there are no air bubbles.

You can find a dotting tool at most beauty supply stores, nail art suppliers online (8ty8beauty.com, Head2toebeauty.com), ebay, etc.

Hope this helps!

Q. I've used a few different kinds. OPI works best, but I've been wanting to use Nina Ultra Pro nail polish, but it peels right off! Am I doing something wrong, or are my nails just unhealthy?

Answer
Some people have too much natural oil in their nails for polish. Make sure your nails are dry, go over them with alcohol dabbed on cotton first. Use a really good base coat, one that has an adhesive formula ( can't think of name). If there is a Sally's Beuty Supply near you, ask. Then use 2 coat of polish, letting each one dry, then apply a good top coat, reapply top coat every day or so. Good luck

What is the difference between UV gel nail polish and regular nail polish?

blessed*

I just purchased this new product called Nutra Nail UV gel nail polish. It comes with a gel activator and the actual polish, but I'm not seeing the difference between this and regular nail polish. Does anyone know the difference?

Answer
It is suppose to block ultra-violet rays from the sun therefore making the color stay truer longer and also to keep artificial nails from yellowing. But as with any cosmetic application, you should remove it regularity. If the natural nails are not exposed to oxygen and allowed to breathe, they will turn yellow and look unhealthy. So in my opinion, get one that can handle any knocking around you might do in a few days but then remove it and allow the nails to go o'de to natural for a few days. After all, unless you are a life guard how much UV rays are they getting.

I want to get some acrylic make up storage but I can find anywhere cheap enough UK

Answer
From a blog called Sophiax by a young woman in the UK named Sophia:

"Acrylic Storage!

Hey everyone! Hope you are well! For ages now I have been lusting after the 'perfect' makeup storage and have gone from it being stored in my dressing table, to buying a 'tall boy' mirror chest of drawers, using empty Glossybox's and even diy-ing my own. All of these didn't quiite work for me and I would end up just keeping my daily products out on my dressing table and the rest would be hidden away and never used. I have forever been eyeing up the Kardashian clear cube, but as it is pretty expensive, I wanted to find something a bit more affordable. I have seen the Muji acrylic storage on many blogs before, so after some research (and worrying it wouldn't fit all my makeup) I made the splurge. I ended up getting three sets of the stack-able drawers; two of the 2 drawers- wide and one of the 2 drawers- wide with flip lid, so in total I had 6 drawers, costing around £40 inc p&p. They arrived within a few days and I was super excited to get it all set up. I absolutely LOVE the way my makeup looks in the clear drawers, and how easy it is to get what I need BUT, as I had previously thought, they definitely didn't fit all my makeup, and as the drawers are fairly thin, they were spilling over prettyy quickly. So, I decided what I would do is keep my most used makeup in the acrylic drawers and keep the rest in my tall boy chest, switching it around every now and then. This way, I will get use out of a lot more of my makeup than before, and can sit at my dressing table and easily grab what I need.

The only downside of the Muji drawers is that not all of my foundation bottles will fit, as like I said, the drawers are quite thin. Rimmel Wake Me Up fits perfectly, but Mac Face and Body and my beloved Clinique Superbalanced don't, which is a little annoying. I will definitely be picking up something else to store these in soon, but for now, their home is my diy acrylic storage which I did a post on a little while ago. (You can see that here)

I'm not a big fan of storing my lipsticks lying down, and I have been searching for the perfect lipstick holder for a while with no luck. I had an Amazon voucher that needed spending so I picked up an acrylic nail polish stand, which I had intended on storing some of my nail polish on, but, when setting it up, I realised it would make a lovely temporary place to store my lipsticks! The nail polish rack was delivered super quicker and only cost just under £10 inc p&p. (Here's the link to the nail polish stand) Obviously, this also has limited storage, so I decided to do the same thing as with the Muji drawers and keep my most used lipsticks out on the rack so they are easy to grab, and again switch them up every now and then to get use out of the others that will be put out of sight.

I am so happy with how these have turned out! So much so that I have already ordered another set of the Muji drawers for extra storage, aswell as an acrylic pot to hold my eyeliners and another nail polish rack!"

Fun DIY projects for room decoration?

Kelli

I am starting my first year of College in about a month and I'm staying home because we could not afford a room and board so instead, my mom is letting me re do my room. I am getting a new bed frame and new dressers. I am looking for new things. I've been hanging posters for years and I want something else other than posters. I am a nail polish collector (over 170 bottles currently) and one of the things I'm doing is creating a wall rack for all my nail polish out of wood planks at Home Depot, I'm going to paint them and decorate them. I am also doing the crayon melting thing. I need more things that I can do. This will help the rest of my summer go by quicker (cause I'm anxious for college) and also show off my creativity in my own personal gallery lol
So any DIY projects that you know helps. I have lots of paints, rhinestones, and decorating tools, I also have a Cricut printer so I can use that as well. Only thing that i am restricted from is painting my walls because we are rent to own and we do not own the house yet. I want to hear as many ideas as possible thanks guys!

how do i start a nail painting business sort of thing? do i need a license?

I want to start a small nail art business to make some extra money. I'm really good at painting nails and I'm almost 13. Can I do nail art for people in my neighborhood, maybe send out some fliers or business cards and paint nails at little girls bday parties and stuff without a license?

Answer
Yeah, it's smart to go to school with that stuff. They teach you all about nails, how they're built up, the best way to paint them, how the messages work. Plus, you do get the license. I know in my high school you could to go to a tech center where you could learn a trade. There was a nail class that you could take for free through the school. It was a one year course. If you took it through the school you saved the 8,ooo dollars it would've cost.

But yes, you can paint anyone's nails if they ask you without a license.

what is the number on the bottom of OPI bottles?

nail polish 50s image

lauren.

I had a favorite nail polish from OPI that was a tawny nude shade. It had no sparkles in it. After repeated use and sitting on my bathroom counter for a long time the bottom labels peeled off. Since then, I've found it impossible to track down the color, but I was wondering if the raised numbers in the glass on the bottom of the bottle (NOT the serial number) have anything to do with the shade?

The number on the bottom is "50."

Answer
Yes, the number does have to do with the shade.
Before the number "50", it should also have a letter or two. There are several OPI 50s, however they have different letters in front. If you have the letter, you can go to opi.com and click "Try on this Color". When a color is selected, as you can see underneath the color is says a letter and a number. For example, Skull & Glossbones is NL P13.

If this doesn't work for you, try going here: http://mail.opi.com/HelpDesk/HelpDesk.nsf/WTSF?OpenForm and send in an e-mail asking them if they know what nail polish that is. I am sure that they have all of the information.

Good luck!

How come after painting my nails, little bubbles appear?

nail polish air bubbles
 on Very nice French pedicure.
nail polish air bubbles image

Rose.

I did my nails the other day, and I noticed that these little air bubbles came out, making the nail polish look and feel bumpy. Anyone know why?

Answer
They are air bubbles, it might be from little bits of dirt or dust getting stuck right before you paint the actual nail. also, sometimes when i air dry my nails, i get the air bubbles too.

Why has my nail polish gone funny?

Jeni H

I bought a bottle of nail polish probably around 6 weeks ago now and i use it quite regularly, as i have to remove my nail polish when i am at work. Therefore i probably use it about once or twice a week. However, ive noticed lately that once my nails have dried, there are tiny air bubbles underneath the polish that i cant get rid of, and it bugs me to hell. Is it my nail polish or is it something that im doing wrong?

Answer
hey
i have had this before and i find it when i sometimes lay it on slightly too thick.

just a trick which may help always drip the brush in every nail and use three strokes
down the middle then both sides
hope this helps good luck

I want to do some diys (for teens). Something easy and fun. Post links of websites and ideas.
Thanks!

Answer
I cant post links on my device but im 15 and a girl i do diy all the time i will describe the all
ok
Popscicle stick bracelet- get the large craft stcks they are 6 inches long they are in the craft section in walmart for 3 dollars, boil the sticks in water and food coloring if you want for 15 minutes take out one at a time, bend them slowly into a circle then get large zip ties and wrap around to hold , then let dry for 3 days so they will stay round, you can but them in the sun too, then paint them and put some top coat nail polish or gloss finish to make the bangels shiny

Crayon art- get a peice of wood cover in fabric white or light gray would be best and hot glue to back of board then hot glue the unwrapped crayons across the top then draw something like a figure or umbrella on the bottom of the fabric , get a lighter and melt the crayons so they run down the fabrics making it a beautiful piece of art

Make duct tape wallets and rings, bake some tye dye cupcakes, red velvet cupcakes

Red velvet marshmallow cupcakes ( omg amazing) ok get red velvet cake mix then a bag of large marshmallows, some baking cups and cupcake/ muffin pans, make the cupcakes then 5 min before they are done put on the marshmallow while still in oven and let mrlt you can sqish with fingers and turn on the broiler for 2 min to make the marshmallow golden brown

Hey!(: so my birthday party is next week and i need some help on what to do with my haor and makeup! Im really excited for it. It is a joint bday party woth my bf (we are like best friends) and his twin who just happens to be dating my best friend. Also my other bff is their bffs gf. Confused? (: haha. Point is all my best friemds will be there and all his best friends will be including him so i really wanna look good! So it is at this place where they have ropes courses (in the air haha) and zip lines and glow in the dark dodgeball. They even have archery! I know it might sound kiddish and lame but its actually the best place ever! Its so fun and im super excited but i have a few things. So idk what to do with my makeup at all. I dont normally wear makeup so help?! Everthing i need to know. I want blush, eyeshadow, lip sticks and glosses, mascaras, fondations, powders, glitter, anything! My outfit is a lace pink long sleeve crop top with a light pink tank with sparkles underneath with leggings and boots. Super cute. Got it for christmas and it is from delias. The sparkles are gold, if that changes anything. Second thing, my hair. I was thinking straighten it so that ot wouldnt be too high matinence when i would be running around, and then i could easily just brush through it. But how should i style my bangs so they are out of my face? I have any haor type product you could dream of, including like a million bows. For the third thing is my nails. I was thinking pink that matches with gold glitter. Any other ideas or nail art tips or tricks? Remember im open to anything. Your idea might be even better! I am willing to go out and buy anything too. Last thing... well this ones kinda personal. I uh... really am hoping i will have my VERY first kiss that night. We have been dating for a LONG time now and this will be the perfect time. so how do i kinda get him alone and show him i want him to kiss me?! Please help. I will NOT make the first move(: lol. So help please!(:

Answer
Makeup: For your face, you want to go a little more natural cos you will be running around. start out with a tinted moisturizer or a bb cream. A bb cream would be better- the one by garnier is a good one. then use a concealer. I would go for a more prolong wear concealer by mac. It is great for both undereyes and also blemishes. set it with a powder. if your going high end- mac mineralize skin finish natural. If your going drugstore- try the rimmel stay matte powder. then i would contour with NYC bronzer in sunny. line your brush up with the top of your ear and the corner of your mouth and that is where you want to apply it. focus it more by your ear and make sure to blend it out. then you want to highlight. Try Mac mineralize skin finish in soft and gentle. this has gold glitter and will compliment your outfit perfectly. you also want to apply your blush. try something more natural. i would go with MAC blush mineralize blush in dainty if your paler. if your darker skinned, warm soul is your color. that is just a nice flush of color. for your eyes. start with a primer and apply this on your lids-( a drugstore one is the elf one. if you dont mind spending much money, i would get the urban decay primer potions)and below your lash line... go for a more natural look on your eyes. try one of the maybelline quads that has neutral colors. i like the copper chic one. put the lightest color on the inner third of the lid. then mix the two middle colors and place them on the outer 2/3 of your eye. then blend your bronzer that you used on the face and put that in your crease. apply the dark brown color in the pallete and put this in your outer corner and the blend it slightly under your lashline on the outer third. then take the mix you used on your lid and put this on the middle third under your lashes. lastly take the lightest color in that palette and put that in your inner corner that the inner third under your bottom lashes. then smudge a black liner (mac pencil kohl in smolder) on your upper lash line.. then apply this to your tightline. lift up your lid and apply this on that line. also apply this in your waterline and the inner corner. this will really define your eyes. then curl your eyelashes and apply a couple coats of a good mascara. I would use Maybelline one by one ... make sure it is in black though. For your lips, since you plan on having your first kiss just exfoliate them with some sugar and apply some maybelline babylips in pink punch. this will give you a slight tint but wont leave a lip print on your bf. ;)
**If you need help with anything just look it up on youtube. it really helps if what im saying doesnt make sense***

Hair: Definitely straighten it. but i would put it in a sleek ponytail that is nice and lifted. dont have it by your neck but you dont want it on the top of your head either. braid your bangs back and bobby pin them to your hair.

Nails: do a pink like you said but do a gold glitter decoration on your fourth finger. just do it on top of the pink. It will be super pretty!!!

just tell him that you want to give him something and have a nice card or something ready that you give to him. hopefully he will think its sweet and lean in and just play along!
Good luck!! hope you have a nice birthday!! hope i helped :)

I have very pale skin, dark brown hair (almost black) and deep brown eyes. What would be a flattering nail polish shade for me? For my fingernails and for my toes. Also do you think it's better to have them match or no? I have no clue...

I love a classy medium red on pale skin. OPI's Got The Blues For Red is a very nice shade:)

What makeup and nail polish colors are good for dark hair and pale skin?

Volleyball

I have black hair, black eyes and pale skin (all naturally!). When my hair was lighter (dyed), I could get away with dark nail polish and stuff, but now I'm wondering if I should lighten up on the makeup colors and polish. I have warm tones in my skin. Any advice on any colors for anything? (clothes, makeup, nail polish, etc.)

Answer
Wear nail polish colors like Rihanna. She wears neon colors, and they're really cool.

My konad nail stamping kit works like crap?

Mariah

My new imaginails/konad nail art stamping kit wont work....Problem: I paint the special nail polish on the image plate and scrape it and stamp it. the when I stamp it noting goes on the stamper....help please

Answer
You need to roll the stamper over the image VERY gently. If you press hard, it won't pick up the image. And as others have mentioned, you need to do the process quickly. You don't have to really rush, but don't take your time.

Can Nail Polish/Enamel and Nail Art be applied to Acrylic Nails?

I have just gotten a set of 'natural' look acrylic nails (the type where a nail tip is applied then acrylic sculpted over the top) . I want to paint them, and add nail art/designs like I usually would with my natural nails. Is it ok to do that to acrylics? Or will it ruin them?

Answer
Of course! A lot of nail artists use acrylic paints on acrylic nails. You can use nail polish as well, but it wouldn't be as easy to erase if you mess up (acrylic paints are usually water based). Even if you did use nail polish and mess up, you can always cover up and start over.
