Does it matter what kind of nail polish I use for water marbling?

nail polish marbling

Morgan

I think water marbled nails look so cool and I really want to do it but I don't really have that great of nail polishes. I have these cheap ones that I got for christmas so does it matter what kind I use?

Answer
the one with the thinner polish usually work better and faster, because in water marble you have to work fast. So it needs to be drip off quick.. Just clean your nail polish sides to keep from the nail polish collecting there and you shouldn't have thick polish that quickly (when you get alot of nail polish on the nail polish bottle sides, air gets in and drys the polish. That is why the polish becomes thick)

What are some cool nail polish techniques?

Q. I already have 4 bottles of crackle, and I've heard of using sponges to create gradient designs, newspaper nails, and water marbling. Are there any other cool things to do with nail polish?

Answer
use liquid eyeliner to do pattens then paint over with clear coat
use clear coat then dab into a childrens glitter
paint nails any shade. get tape and cut into strips. but on nails then paint a different shade remove tape

I have a question on acrylic nails?

Tara

I've gotten French tips done a lot, but I'm kinda bored with them and I kinda want something new. I still want acrylics, but how do I tell the person doing my nails I want like color or a design on them? like, I want them
kinda a light pink, and I want the ring finger to be glittery. or something like that. so what do I say because I've never gotten a design as they never ask if I want color or something, so I don't know if they do it or what!

Answer
Yeah, they always assume when you get acrylics that you just want french tips because that's what everybody has (including me). Tell them exactly what you want just like you did here. Most salons have a sample board with different designs and acrylic powder colors they offer and they have numbers. They can do almost anything you want. I've seen some beautiful nail art on acrylic nails at the salon I go to. They can use glitter, different colors, apply designs and you can even get little jewels. Just tell them or show them. They'll do it for a little extra $. My sister gets different colors for tips and sometimes just gets her acrylics all one color. She's back to white tips right now because of her job just like mine but she has done some crazy things in the past.

What to get my 14 year old daughter for Christmas?

Lauren

So I am not sure what else to get my daughter for Christmas!

About her:
Her favorite colors Purple, and we are in the middle of decorating her room! She's fourteen, and her 15th birthday is in 5 months. (grade nine) She loves clothes and being fashionable, and she is an addict to social media websites like Tumblr, Twitter, and facebook. She loves horses, but we can't afford to pay to buy her one. She loves writing and spends a lot of her time writing when she isn't hanging out with friends. (She's writing a story on a website called Wattpad? Appariantly shes finished 29 chapters and is working on a sequel!) Anyways, she likes some boyish things, like she totally loves Call of duty (she owns 2, we are buying her another) And games like Zelda and Spyro, but on the other hand she is a complete teenage girl addicted to clothes, makeup and boys. She loves photography, and wants to be a photographer when she's older (she uses my 600$ Camara all the time) Her favorite band is One Direction (I got her tickets and merch) and she is obsessed with some group of boys called the Janoskians. She also adores country music, and an Indie/pop band called He Is We. Oh, and she owns almost any gaming plateform out there, so any game ideas?

What she asked for:
A bunch of paranormal books, Justin beiber perfume,A laptop(not happening) Horse riding clothing, Slippers, Fuzzy pajamas, Clothes from forever 21, Garage, Hollister, Ardenes and Guess.

Any ideas? what does your teen girl want?
Forgot to add

I do NOT do giftcards. She wants me to give her a gift card so she can go shopping with friends, but I want to physically put a present under the tree, other family gives her gift cards all the time.

Answer
You can get her:
hair straightener or curler
uggs
nail polish and nail art stickers
monogram necklace
set of filters for her camera
ice watch
Clarisonic cleansing brush
cute bed sheets

How to ask my mom to start wearing make up?

nail polish not tested on animals
 on Natural nail polish remover nourishes nails | Easier
nail polish not tested on animals image

Brianna

I want to start wearing makeup. I don't know what to say though because up until recently I always said makeup was stupid and made you look unnatural but now I know you can use it enchance features instead of hide them. I think if I ask her it would be awkward. Other things I've asked for are really awkward even when it shouldn't be. It was awkward for no reason when I asked if I could dye my hair and shave my legs and even soap designed for your face instead of regular soap. I don't know how I'm supposed to wear it without asking. I don't have access to makeup except her old makeup which is tested on animals and I only use cruelty free products. Currently I wear lipgloss sometimes but I don't count that as makeup. I tried hinting at it by pointing out some cruelty free makeup brands like elf, nyx, and wet n wild but she thought i only wanted nail polish from them. She doesn't wear makeup everyday and when she does it doesn't look very good (not to be mean but she applies it wrong so I don't think she would be helpful at teaching me) So how should I ask to wear makeup.
Also what kind of makeup do you think I should wear? I'm 13 and have dark brown hair that I dyed auburn, long (black) eyelashes, full lips, and it looks like I'm wearing blush naturally. I think tinted mosturizer, concealer for spots, and eyeliner would be good. I don't know if eyeliner would be ok to start but I feel like eyeliner would be good. And I've used crayola colored pencils dipped in hot water to soften it (yes Im that desperate lol) and a thin line of black at my lash line looks more natural than brown because it blends into my eyelashes.
Sorry it's so long and thanks for answering
@kelsey after reading your answer i realized that those also apply to me. In 4th grade I really wanted boots instead of sneakers and I was embarrassed to ask for them. I didn't even ask to pluck my eyebrows so i have to be careful that it looks almost the same as before. And I still pretend I don't have crushes. Literally a few hours ago my mom asked if I had crushes and I said no. That means your a lot like me and the tips should be helpful.
Today I went on eyeslipsface.com and pointed out there is a huge sale on brushes (trying to hint that I want makeup) and she said i don't need makeup brushes. I don't know how else to try to hint that I want makeup.

Answer
Wow! You sound EXACTLY like me! When I was younger I was afraid to tell my mom that I:

1. Wanted to shave my legs (even though I was the only girl in my class with ape legs)
2. Wanted to pluck my eyebrows
3. Wanted to try wearing new types of clothes
4. Liked boys... (Sounds weird, but yeah, I pretended to have no crushes on guys for years)
5. Wanted to wear makeup

I too always complained about the injustices of makeup and how it is a waste of time and makes you look "ugly" or whatever. When I started high school, I realized the same thing you did... that it is just used to accentuate your features. But because of my years of being anti-makeup...it was awkward to talk to my mom about it.

I started off with just wearing concealer... if you have acne, or something to cover up, this might actually come in handy. You can tell your mom that you feel embarrassed about it, and you want to cover it up. She will then probably get the hint, and take you out shopping for some foundation, BB cream, or concealer.

The eye makeup was tougher for me. While shopping for makeup for your skin, you could point out those brands again, and maybe look for a sale or discount on eyeliner, mascara, etc. Keep hinting at these things, and eventually your mom will realize that you want to wear makeup.

Sorry I don't have many specific tips for you, but I just wanted to let you know that your embarrassment is completely normal! I used to think I was such a weirdo for being afraid to talk to my mom about stuff like this... but eventually, I became comfortable talking to her about anything and everything. If your mom is like mine, she will get the hint and support your new look. :)

Just remember, start small and sublte with makeup... The older and more experienced you get, the easier it will be for you to switch about your look and experiment with new things :)

Good luck! :)

Does Santee test their products on animals?

I found them recently and I really really like it. They have great quality products for cheap prices. Other people like it too, especially the nail polish, but no one knows if they test their products on animals or not. I checked their website, there was nothing about it. I suck with computers, so maybe it's me. Can anyone help me out here? Does anyone know whether or not they test their products on animals?

How to use cheap/drugstore nail polish?

Claudia

I have been trying to paint my nails for several months but it always ended up horrible! Yesterday I was painting my friends nails with OPI nail polish and I did it almost perfectly. I realized that my problem is the polish brand. My parents won't let me buy anything with my own money! The only nail polish I have is cheap/drugstore polish. Examples: Sally hansen, wet n' wild, confetti, funky fingers (five below), rimmel, NYC, fresh paint, nail art, and some polishes that don't even have a brand! My friends won't let me use theirs.

Do you have any tips/tricks to use cheap/drugstore polish?
Thanks

Answer
Depends if they have certain things in them such as glitter or little shapes. I don't use anything pricey. I have a couple of the ones you've listed. I think it's more of practice makes perfect. Take your time and don't rush. Apply a generous amount at a time. Start from the middle of the nail with one application then move on to either side. Re-apply another layer (but not too thick) if necessary. It's not good to share makeup even if it's nail polish. Even though they're your friends but infections can spread - if not major ones then minor ones that can develop.

I have a huge bad habit that I bite my nails. They r bitten till the bleed :( I have tried to stop but I just can't :( how do I stop? And what r some tips to get my nails to grow faster and longer? Thx! And I have already tried nail polish (witch looks really bad on my nails for them being so short), a mixture that made them taste bad, a squishy ball to squish when I want to bite, ect. I need the big guns! Nothing that costs that much money though please! Thanks!!!

Answer
I was a nail biter for 25 years, but you need to find some kind of therapy because that is considered OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. When you dropped one problem, you end up with a new problem.

Number one: keep your fingers occupied. Take up a new hobby, also try chewing gum - sugarfree pref.
(Another reason why I love to type, & a TC on YA!)

Second: try to make your fingers look nice, let them grow. That way you'll have a good reason NOT to bite them.

Growing nails comes from: your good genes, good nail care, and all the healthy foods you eat everyday from Mother Nature.

12 x Nail stripe

what else do i need..apart from colours oh and i already have the uv light thing yano:)

Answer
You follow these steps for beautiful UV Gel Nails At Home....

WASH YOUR HANDS! Sanitation is very important. You don't want debris under your UV Gel or to have any kind of bacteria under your gel that can cause a infection with your natural nail.

Push back cuticles and cut away excess cuticle if needed.

Lightly buff the shine from your natural Nail. Wipe clean with Alcohol.

Glue on false tips if your are using them. Lightly buff the shine from the tip once the glue has dried to help the UV Gel stick. Once again wipe with alcohol

Apply your UV Gel Primer and let dry. Just a little dab on the natural nail plate. This is to help the UV Gel better adhere to your nail

Apply a thin coat of UV Gel Builder to your nail. DO NOT GET ON YOUR SKIN/CUTICLE! Place hand into the lamp for a flash 2 minute cure.

Apply 2nd coat of UV Builder Gel to the nail. Again, DO NOT GET ON YOUR SKIN/CUTICLE! Place hand in lamp for another 2 minute flash cure.

If you are applying a soak off polish, glitter, etc do so now

If you are happy with your nail go ahead and apply your UV Top Coat and do a full 3 minute cure. IF you are not happy with the nail, start by rubbing away the inhibition layer of gel with alcohol. Lightly buff away any imperfections you are unhappy with. Once finished clean the nail with alcohol and then apply your UV Top coat with 3 minute cure.

Clean all nails with alcohol to remove the uncured gel. This is called an inhibition layer.

Finish your nails with a cuticle oil to rehydrate the skin after the UV exposure. Rub gently into the cuticles.

Enjoy your beautiful nails for up to two weeks! From your list I didn't see cuticle oil, alcohol,

1. Talc is a mineral that has perfect cleavage and a greasy or soapy feel. It is given the distinction of being number 1 on Mohs hardness scale. Talc is also called soapstone which is used by artists for sculptures. Talc can be ground up into talcum powder. Ground talc is also used to make crayons, paint, paper, and soap.

2. Graphite is very similar chemically to a diamond. Graphite and diamond are both pure carbon. The difference is the amount of heat and pressure that has been put onto the two minerals. Diamond is the hardest natural element on Earth with a hardness of 10 which is the maximum on the Mohs hardness scale. Graphite is a very soft mineral with a hardness between 1 and 2. Graphite has a black streak and was probably formed by the metamorphism of plant remains or by the crystallization of ancient magmas.
Today graphite is used for "lead" in pencils. Lead is poisonous to humans and has not been used for many years in pencils. Graphite is also used in the paint industry.

3. Galena is an important source of lead. Galena's chemical symbol is PbS, which is lead and sulfur. Galena may also contain silver. The United States is the leading producer of lead in the world. Lead was used in pencils and paint until it was found to be poisonous to humans . Today pencil "lead" is made of another mineral called graphite. Lead is used for fishing weights.
Galena is an iron sulfide and the main source of lead. Galena usually occurs in cubic crystals. If you hit a specimen of galena with a hammer it will shatter into small perfect cubic crystals. It has a metallic luster and a black to dark gray color and streak. Galena has a hardness of about 2.5 on Mohs hardness scale which is about as hard as your finger nail.

4. Feldspar is the most abundant mineral in rocks that are located at or near the earth's surface. Feldspar can have glassy white, blue, green, or red crystals. All feldspars contain silica and aluminum.
When feldspars are exposed to the atmosphere they break down or weather easily. When they are broken down, feldspar forms other minerals, many of which are clay minerals. Feldspars also contain potassium which is a major nutrient for plant growth.
The clays formed by weathered feldspar are used by pottery manufacturing plants. Kaolinite is the highest quality of the feldspar clays used by potters.
Feldspar is number 6 on the Mohs hardness scale.

5. The cave paintings of Lascaux and elsewhere are impressive for their artistry, but prehistoric humans needed paint to make them. The red in the paintings comes from Red Ochre (Hematite). People have not only decorated caves, but their own bodies, with body paint. They used Red Ochre and Yellow Ochre (Limonite), and charcoal from their fires.

6. The Egyptian also used minerals in their cosmetics. They used red ochre on their lips, and elaborate eye-makeup or Kohl. This included black pigments such as Stibnite, and colourful ones as well, Malachite, Azurite and even Turquoise. The Egyptians used pigments for paint as well. In Tutankhamun's tomb, among all the rich and beautiful objects was found a small paintbox, perhaps his own from childhood. It contained powdered Gypsum, Orpiment, Hematite and Malachite.

7. The Russians used Dioptase, which is brilliant green, in their religious icons, since the mineral was found in Siberia.

8. Lapis Lazuli has always been highly prized for its vivid blue. It was called ultra-marine. It was used by medieval artists for the Virgin Mary's blue cloak. It was very expensive, as then it only came from Afghanistan.

9. Vermilion, made from Cinnabar was used to paint the face of Jupiter's statue in Rome red, for sacred purposes. It was also used for Imperial writing in China.

What is there to do in Houston for college students?

Cody

I'm a male and about to go to college, but I have no idea what there is to do in Houston. Preferably something not "sketchy"

Answer
You can go to Hermann Park. It's a beautiful, huge park in the middle of the museum district with paddle-boats, a zoo, a little train that goes around the park, and a Japanese tea garden. House of pies is a great place to go at any hour of the night. PLENTY of clubs down Washington Street of all kinds. There are always concerts going on somewhere. (Don't just look at House of Blues or Toyota Center. You gotta look for the small, informal venues!) Museums are free on Tuesday. Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Natural History, Science, Medicine, and there's one for kids. Ice skating in the Galleria (a huge mall). NASA, if you've never been there. There's a decent beach just a little while away in Galveston. You can visit a local brewery, like the Lawnmower brewery and sample a lot of different beers during a tour. There are even Broadway shows. And of course, going to an Astros game is always a cheap way to have a great time. I haven't even hit the nail on the head! There are hundreds more things to do. I moved here for college and after three years, there is still so much left to do.

How can I find out if a painting that is not signed worth anything at all?

beautiful nail art pictures image

butcherboy

This beautiful art work was given to us, however we do not know anything about it. It's not painted, the drawing looks like they actually used ivory, jade, & a few other marble or stone type that the picture is actually done in. There is no signature on it anywhere that we could find. How also can we find out anything about it?
Mahalo so much.

Answer
Hmm, I can't envision what you are describing... maybe a link to a photo of it would help.

First what provenance has come to you with the painting? What stories did you hear when you got it? Was it a local artist? Are there more paintings in that area attributed to him/her? Ask the person who gave it to you to tell you what they know about it, before it is too late. They will be proud that you are interested in their gift.

Looking at the wooden frame construction, stretchers, closely examining the canvas side (for color, fiber, weave pattern), how the canvas was stretched and stapled/nailed, what colors the pigments are, what style the painting is done in, examining the gesso to determine if it is animal glue or polymer... may at least give a clue as to the era...

Then researching the era for exemplary artist of that style may help.

Visiting an art dealer or appraiser might be worth a consultation fee if you feel it is valuable.

If you think you have got something, you could pay a boatload of money to do nondestructive analysis that would prove it is possible that a painting COULD have been done, but not that it WAS done, by a specific artist.

Lacking any clues, you should place a value on the piece based upon the visual merits of the painting, that is, if you have no way to discover the unknown painter. This will probably be a low number somewhere between $25 -$500. Is it visually pleasing? Is it well crafted? Is it a good example of its genre or is it derivative (poor or cliched copy of something that was popular)?

Most of all value the pleasure that its beauty brings to your life.

Good luck!

P.S. Be aware that what a painting is appraised at and what you could possibly sell it for are usually VERY far apart. Sale price is usually 10% to 50% of appraised value. Take appraised value with a grain of salt...appraisers are paid to excite you about your find (and justify the price tags in their shop).

What are the essential makeup supplies a girl should have?

harley gir

i don't use any makeup at all and i am thinking of getting some stuff to start with. what should I get? I also don't have a lot of nail polish. what colors should I get?

Answer
All you need are a good set of tools and some basics and practice. For tools, I suggest you get the Borghese set of brushes from Costco. They are around $20-$25 and have a great range of brushes small to large. The kit even comes with explanations on what each brush is for. It was also recommended in Makeup Artist magazine as a great beginner kit.

A beautiful makeup starts with a good face. A simple routine is:

1. Wash your face with anti-bacterial soap. It is so simple, and it's something my aesthetician friends and cosmetologists taught me.

2. Wash with Ponds Deep Cleanser and Make-up Remover. Very moisturizing and clean.

3. Use a nice toner like Clean and Clear Cooling Daily Pore Toner. Light scent, VERY mild.

4. Moisturizer: Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer. Very light and clean, but also has a 45 SPF. 45 SPF never felt so comfortable before this.

All you really need to look good is some concealer for putting in key areas, not foundation all over the face. I like to use MAC concealers, they have a great texture and blend well. Go in and test them. Just remember not to squeeze out too much because a little bit goes a long way.

If you do want a foundation, a great store brand is Cover Girl's Advanced Radiance. It's a slim pump bottle. The display has something that makes it really simple to find the right shade. Take their little card and hold it to your skin; whichever color disappears against your skin is the shade for you. I found it ingenious because I'm a professional makeup artist and use all sorts of brands from MAC to less known industry standard makeup. Here, you don't have to have any skill and you can still find the perfect makeup shade without having to go to an expensive counter and hope the sales artist gets it right. And honestly, I've hired some of those girls, and their experience ranges from amateur to expert. I don't like to hope for good luck myself. The product is smooth and blends really perfect. It's light and I had no creasing. To get it perfect, grab a mirror and hold the card to your face. Yeah, I said to your skin, so wash your face after, but you'll get the color match exact!

For eyes, if you like a defined brow, use a brow brush (small and cut at an angle, and softly fill. You can always add more product. To do eyeshadow, start with a palette that has many colors so you can practice. Some simple ideas are earthtones or doing one shadow on the lid and then a highlight at the corner of the brow beneath the end of the eyebrow. There are more detailed ideas, but start easy. Experiment in your free time and take pictures so you can see or repeat what you did. A lot of people will also coordinate and take a color or several colors from their outfits. In the beginning, just start with 1 color.

For lashes, Cover Girl Volume Exact is clean and easy. Just do a tight, quick, swirl with the brush to keep the application clean and clump free.

Basically, it's like anything you want to learn to do well: talk to people who do it, like friends, here online, at makeup counters. Practice. Buy good tools and supplies. Everything good doesn't HAVE to be from the counter, but wonderful things ARE at the counter too.

There are wonderful and easy things to do with blushes, creams, lip glosses, liners, lipsticks, but these are also the best places to just start experimenting.

I've put the Makeup 411 site below, it has great breakdowns (explanations and supply lists) of what artists have used on their actors.

Also, I added links that are great starter resources. Makeup Alley is great because it's got lots of reviews on ALL SORTS of products. So far, I've been able to find reviews on EVERY product I typed in, and that's saying a lot for me.

Oh yeah, and whatever you do, when you go to counters, don't believe the hype, don't get intimidated. Makeup is an art and I've met all sorts of people. Everyone can do it. I know I sound like the chef character in Ratatouille, but I'm serious. I have met a lot of people of all types who never did it before, and once I started teaching them, they picked it up and ran with it. Mistakes and success, a sense of beauty, esteem, or creativity, it's all about learning and building and having fun. Experiment with anything you want, from subtle and barely there to cutting edge and pro.

Good luck and have fun,
Margaret

How to be an indie girl?

nail art utensils
 on Beautiful Nail Art.....!!!!!
nail art utensils image

Sally Smit

I'm not saying I'm going to change my style but if I wanted to how would I be an Indie girl? Like how to act what to wear and what to do

Answer
Being indie means that your being yourself, and nobody else. True Indie is not about who has the best "cliche" art or wears the tightest jeans, it's about being yourself hence the term independent.
For clothes, Vintage band t-shirts, Cardigans, Sweaters, Knitted jumpers (cable knits are good) and rugby shirts are all good for tops. Bottoms can be Skinny jeans in gray, navy or dull colours like mustard or olive,Chords in any color, Neutral skirts with fine details, Bright leggings or tights, chinos, ripped, high waisted shorts...and dresses such as ones from Urban Outfitters, American Apparel,Vintage floral with a peter pan collar, nipped in at the waist, no sleeves dresses (you know the ones I mean) are VERY indie. Lace dresses in cream.
Shoes wise...Old Converse, Chuck Taylors or Hightops of any kind, Quirky flats, knee-high boots, vintage-looking leather shoes, comfy slippers for around the house.
For accessories try Pearl or stud earrings, vintage/different necklaces, Aviator Sunglasses or Wayfairers, Buddy Holly glasses, many bracelets or things to wear around the wrist such as coloured lace, woolly tights, knee length socks, hair accessories like flowers, big glasses and leather purses/wallets.

After clothes, we then have makeup and hair. Hair more natural is better, so don't obsess about dying it or having roots showing. Side ponytails and plaits work well, as do messy buns with a scarf behind the ears pushing the front of the hair forward but not quite a quiff and braids or Hair down, messy and bangs in a twist. Make it look un-brushed but not really knotty, that's ugly and makes you look dirty. "Towel dry" your hair with your fingers when it's dry and maybe run the curlers through a couple of areas to add some wave, Side part it. Ribbons also look awesomeness! ;)
Makeup is also less for better. Try pale foundation and if you really want to, eyeliner. Wear nail varnish in dark red, dark purple, dark blue, dark green, gray.... you get it that dark colours are pretty much it on the nail varnish area!

Wondering what indie music is? Here are some indie bands you should look into:
* MGMT (Congratulations)
* Death Cab for Cutie
* Modest Mouse
* Weezer
* The Kooks
* The Wombats
* Tom Milsom
* Stars
* Le Tigre
* The xx
* The Velvet Underground
* Molly Lewis
* Whitehouse
* The Hush Sound
* Joy Division
* Howling Willie Cunt
* Sufjan Stevens
* The Dandy Warhols
* Bombay Bicycle Club
* Yuck
* Etc.
* Vampire Weekend
* Freelance Whales
* Arcade Fire
* Flamboyant Bella
* Best Coast
* Fanfarlo
* The Shins
* Animal Collective
* Neutral Milk Hotel
* Smith Westerns
* The Pigeon Detectives
* Tokyo Police Club
* Florence and the Machine
* Ellie Goulding
* Everfound
* He is We
Now you have music and appearance sorted. Now we tackle your attitude.
# Love who you are. Be happy and don't be afraid to voice your opinion. Never be insecure about your beliefs or ideas.
# Don't be too loud. While you shouldn't be insecure, you should never be over excited or hyper. Be quiet in class and do your work- or better yet, work on an artsy drawing instead. Act like it doesn't matter to you whether you socialize or not.
# Be mature. Always think before you act. Be calm and smart, and don't make or laugh at gross jokes. If someone makes one, just shrug it off instead of squealing or going "Eeeeew!!!"
# Bike everywhere on an old bike (not a mountain bike.) When people ask why, bring up an argument about conserving energy.
# Always carry a shoulder bag or backpack containing the following:

* A sketch book
* Writing utensils (BLACK SHARPIE)
* A camera
* Other creative, artsy supplies
* A pair of large headphones

# Become a vegetarian. If your parents won't let you, pack your own lunch, and pretend you are at school.
# Have some sort of individual obsession (Hey, it's called indie, right?!) Like bubblegum, umbrellas, or big, over-sized jumpers (Quite popular in the indie scene) or a signature thing like drawing stars on all your text books.
# Like 80s films e.g. Back to the Future, The Goonies and The Gremlins. Also watch a few black and white films.

Sorry looooong, but hope this helps. x

nail art brush substitute?

jiyunnn

what's the best thin nail brush substitute? i tried toothpicks, eyeliner brushes, and other thin utensils i found. none worked :/ i can't go out anytime soon to get a nail art brush, so i need a substitute. thankss beforehand :D

Answer
What are you trying to do with it? The best tool I have for doing my nails, is a dotting tool. I have 5, with 2 different sizes on each one. They are great for even making lines. I never had any luck with toothpicks. Other than that, the best brush I have is the eyeliner brush.

Another tip I have is the polish that you use. Some polishes don't seem to work for me, when making small lines or dots. I have acrylic paint that I picked up at the dollar store. It covers better when making designs over top of nail polish.

What are the harmful chemicals in some nail polishes (such as Essie) that can cause cancer and birth defects?

I really like the nail polish brand called Essie, but when I went to get some at Ulta, it had a sign that said it contained a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects. I was wondering what those chemical/s are and if they still exist in Essie nail polishes. Thank you!

Answer
hi
the major 2 toxic chemicals in nail polish are Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) and Toluene.
Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) is a plasticiser to prevent chips and cracks. DBP is an oily liquid that is soluble in fat and slightly soluble in water. It is not very volatile so it does not evaporate readily into the atmosphere.
Over 75% of DBP is used as a plasticiser in polymers such as PVC, 14% is used in adhesives, 7% in printing inks and 3% in other miscellaneous uses, including sealants and grouting agents used in construction as well as consumer products such as cosmetics.

Toluene is a solvent that makes the polish easy to apply. It is aromatic and commonly used as an industrial solvent for the manufacturing of paints, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and rubber.
Toluene is found in gasoline, acrylic paints, varnishes, lacquers, paint thinners, adhesives, glues, rubber cement, airplane glue, and shoe polish.

Essie i believe still does use those chemicals you might want to try these

Avon, Butter London, Dashing Diva âExtra Virginâ, HoneyBee Gardens, Lippmann Collection (newer collections), NailTini, NARS (new formula), Nocti, Nubar, OPI (Australia collection & newer), Revlon, Sally Hansen, Vinyl Deborah Lippmann, Zoya

hope this helped

Is the smell of nail polish harmful during pregnancy?

Im 10 weeks pregnant and during my job my friend started cleaning a box of nail polish. Some of the nail polish were broken and it smelled a lot. She was actually pretty close when she was doing this. Can this be harmfull to my baby?

Answer
It takes a teeny tiny amount of anything for us to smell it. What you smell goes down either into your lungs along with the air, again this will be a small amount that even makes it this far, or down your throat into your digestive system. Again, this will be very small.
I highly doubt it will do anything to you, let alone your baby. I congratulate you on caring though. If you sat around drinking the stuff, that would be a bad idea. But one sniff is not gonna do anything.
Chill :)

What nail polish color accentuate my new ring?

buffygirl7

My fiance just got me a beautiful gold engagement ring with a big beautiful emerald surrounded by little diamonds. I am so happy emeralds are my favorite! Its so pretty I want the rest of my hands to be pretty too! What color nail polish would accentuate it best?

Answer
If you would like understated, as the other person said, go with a simple, clean French manicure -- some nude, peachy tone with perfect white tips. For this, I'd suggest Essie Ballet Slippers (the only color Queen Elizabeth will wear!) with OPI Alpine Snow for the tips.

If you want something grand, deep, and spectacular, go for Chanel Peridot. Though pricey ($25 for a bottle), it's gorgeous, and I've never seen any dupes for it that can fully mimic its shimmer and depth. It's a shimmery gold, with green and bronze duochrome...Go ahead, splurge!

ingridfh20

Answer
Belly chains are becoming super popular for bikinis! If you look in some Victoria Secret magazines Candice Swanepoel is wearing them and now I want one! Vintage swimsuits like the ones Marilyn Monroe used to wear are becoming more noticeable.

Also look at the new nail trends, colors, and art that are out. You can find some looks on Instagram or Pinterest. Girls are getting new designs and making the shape of the nails almond or pointy which is cute. Different colored manicure tips and making one nail a different color is also trending.

Some good ideas for a 17 year old girly girl room?

nail polish wall rack
 on Wall Mounted Nail Polish Rack (LILY 90 BOTTLE BLACK) on Wanelo
nail polish wall rack image

GoldenButt

Okay i turned 17 not long ago, i'm redecorating and have redecorated a LOT. I have a new nightstand with a mini easel and a new lamp with a zebra print shade, i have pictures on my walls and new storage boxes, most are french themed... I have an accent couch in my bedroom, tons of pillows and new sheets already.. We're painting my walls white and my doors light pink, i'm getting a new beige or light pink carpet soon and i even got a new door nob.

I'll stop from there but basically what i'm trying to do is not buy so much but actually get more creative and makes some unique. I already made a bracelet holder, a headband holder, and even a nail polish rack which i'm nearly done decorating.. Any other good ideas? It can be literally anything as long as it's girly girl and unique. I LOVE getting creative and making my own stuff by the way, i'm good at it. Oh and also, i'm making a bow holder board and i have a ribbon board where i hold pictures. So anymore ideas?
OH and an add on, i love not only zebra print, leopard print, and crazy hot pink or crazy designs like that but i also love very classic, very vintage and natural colors like beige, light pink, white.. I even have a few items on my dresser that my grandma gave me, that are from the early 19th century. Like a 1950s powder box and a 1940s jewlery box. And i love love LOVE french themed things and accent things.

Is there a filler to fill holes in ceramic wall tiles?

Jill H

We've taken down some shelves and racks from the walls in our kitchen, and this left a few holes in the tiles where the screws were.

We intend to get a new kitchen at some point and replace the tiles, but in the meantime is there any tile filler/paint that we could use to improve the appearance? The tiles are a pale brown colour. Many thanks for any advice!!

Answer
As far as I know, there is no actual product for this operation, so you have to get creative. What I would do is fill the holes with MH ready-patch, after it dries make them smooth with a damp rag, then touch up the holes with nail polish (nail varnish in the UK), may take 2 or 3 coats (go to CVS, they have lots and lots of colors, but you still may have to buy a few shades and mix your own), The dried finish of the nail polish closely matches that of ceramic tile. (I use this trick to touch up outside miters)

I have a pair of classic black Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses from the 80s that have had a lot of use. The frame has dulled with lots of small scratches over the years. How can I polish the frames to bring back some of the lustre? I have been to an optometrist but they had no idea. I'm really after a plastic polish that is OK for use on the type of plastic used in Wayfarers.

Answer
Use a finger nail polishing (emery) board, it has 2-4 different grades of coarseness. Start with the heavier coarse, then finish with the finest.

Good Luck!
