What gets nail polish stains out?

John S

Washing it hasn't worked....It's red nail polish.

Answer
The people who told you to apply Nail Polish Remover were nearly right, but not quite....( :

You actually apply pure Acetone, NOT straight Nail Polish. Apparently there is a big difference....This method is recommended by the Professionals ---- 100% guaranteed to remove that red polish, easily, effectively, and completely.

This is also the preferred technique advised by ABC's Local Radio's Domestic Guru, Shannon Lush. Together with co-writer Jennifer Fleming, their brilliant new book "Spotless", is regarded by many, as the essential "Domestic Disaster" Home Handbook. Try it, and see for yourself!

My Kids are always getting into my Nail polish, when I'm not looking, the Cheeky Monkey's! Needless to say, I've used this technique many, many times over, with great success!

Best nail polish remover?

Passenger

Whenever I remove my nail polish it is really difficult. It takes about 20 minutes to get all the polish off my toenails. I don't remember it being this ridiculously tough to remove polish 20 years ago. Is there a polish remover that works really well?

If it matters, I typically use either OPI or Sally Hansen polish and I never use any kind of top coat, base coat, etc. Maybe that's part of the problem? I just don't have that much time to do my nails.

Answer
I have really flat nail beds, so polish that won't come off the base of my nails is public enemy number one (comes right off the nail tips far too easily though)

The best I've found are these:
http://www.drugstore.com/qxp54039_333181_sespider/cutex_essential_care/one_step_nail_polish_remover_pads_regular.htm

They work quicker and take more off, at least when I use them. Less residue, too. If you're using darker colors, they can tend to be tougher to get off.

Making a Twilight easter gift basket need ideas?

Forget wha

My mother and I want to make my sister a Twilight Easter basket but we need ideas. She is 21 years old and a huge Twilight fan. She is no team Edward. She has all the DVD's and books. We want to know what we should put in it and what we should use as a basket. We are also re-doing her bed room if that helps. Any ideas would be great thanks :)
She hates Harry Potter
If you guys must know she really is mentaly challanged she has schizophrenia and fuctions at the same as a 14/16 year old.

Answer
well, here are some ideas:

1. this forks DVD- if she doesn't already have it: http://www.borders.com/online/store/TitleDetail?sku=025192055386

2. use a regular basket just make the basket red and black themed. and maybe the actual basket should be white because it is easter after all.

3. buy something from this page: http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/LicensedGear/NewMoon.jsp?cm_mmc=CJ-_-Search-_-google-_-General&AID=10550188&PID=1552053&SID=leT8LCfZ-CID-1223542530-search&gclid=CMyqluzE2qACFQMBiQodJmNcAw

4. add other things that are the colors of twilight- like hairties, bracelets, bath items, candles, blankets, sparkles. you can get these things cheap from tg maxx, ross or walmart.

or add each of the cover items- apple, that flower, red ribbon, and chess queen.
red, black and pearl nail polish http://www.eyeslipsface.com/nails/elf_nail_polish/nail_polish

5. poster from walmart. they are only like 15$
also for her room could be one of the blankets (see 3. link)

6. twilight candy- it is in most candy stores (like powells ect.) and other accesories:

Shellac nails vs gel nails?

Cassandra

I'm getting my nails done next week, and i don't know the difference between shellac and gel nails? I have had the gel before and acrylic but never the shellac. Thanks!

Answer
Shellac is a gel polish. It applies like nail polish but wears like a gel. Gel lasts longer than shellac but shellac will last longer than nail polish and it won't chip.

gel nails vs acrylic?

Collete S

Which ones are less damaging and cute whats the difference? What should i get?

Answer
Hi :)

Acrylic Pros:
*Acrylic nails are more available for purchase.
*They have been around longer, so nail artists are usually better trained with acrylic nails.
*Last longer than gel nails.
*Nail polish stays on longer.
*Easy to fix them yourself, if you accidently break one.
*Lower price

Gel Pros:
*They look more natural.
*Softer
*More flexible
*Odorless
*They don't require dangerous chemicals to remove or put on.
*Easier to cure after removing.
*They require less filling when putting them on.

I think they are both about even. It depends which qualities you care about more.

Where can I find nail decals?

owens_momm

I'm looking for some really great decals, that don't look like they are made for little girls. Everything I find is so juvenile looking. No gemstones or anything 3D, just some simple flowers or something pretty. Any good stores or websites? I can't afford to go get my nails done, so I'd like to do it myself.

Where can I find a spice rack similar to this one?

Ava

I want a spice rack to store my nailpolish on like the one in the picture but all the spice racks I have looked for online are to big (like each shelf could hold two or three bottles of nail polish) and the one in the picture seems to be about the right size. It is also a little bit decorative. (I don't want something plain and boring) I don't care about the color, I'll just paint it myself.

Mesopotamian societies?

Bailey

I'm writing a topic for my World History class and the topic is:
âCompare and contrast the achievements of TWO Mesopotamian civilizations.â
I need two Mesopotamian societies. Would Sumeria and Babylonia work? Any facts I can use with my essay?

Answer
Yes.

*Sumer* - Records only go back to 2900 BC, it was first settled between 4500 and 4000 BC, though.

Culture:

Pottery was plentiful, and the forms of the vases, bowls and dishes were manifold; there were jars for honey, butter, oil and wine, which was probably made from dates. (Honey, butter, oil and wine jars were sealed)

Spears, bows, arrows and daggers were used in war.

Sumerians grew barley, chickpeas, lentils, wheat, dates, onions, garlic, lettuce, leeks and mustard. Sumerians caught many fish and hunted fowl and gazelle.

Sumerians used oxen as their primary beasts of burden and donkeys as their primary transport animal.

Tablets were used for writing purposes, copper was hammered into plates, while necklaces or collars were made of gold.

From 2600 BC onwards, the Sumerians wrote multiplication tables on clay tablets and dealt with geometrical exercises and division problems.

Time was marked in lunar months.

Sumerian writing is the oldest example of writing on earth. Although hieroglyphs were first used, symbols were later made to represent syllables. Triangular reeds were used to write on moist clay.

Anu as the full time god, equivalent to "heaven" the word "an" in Sumerian means "sky" and his consort Ki, means "Earth".

Enki is the god of beneficence, ruler of the freshwater depths beneath the earth, a healer and friend to humanity who in Sumerian was thought to have given humans the arts and sciences, the industries and manners of civilization.

Enlil, lord of the ghost-land, in the north at the temple of Nippur. His gifts to mankind were said to be the spells and incantations that the spirits of good or evil were compelled to obey.

Inanna, the morning (eastern) and evening (western) star, at the temple (shared with An) at Uruk.

The sun-god Utu at Ur.

The moon god Nanna at Sippar.

*Babylonia* - was first mentioned in 2334- 2279 BC.

They had medicine (Creams, bandages, and pills), knew Astronomy, knew how to cut gems,

The zodiac was a Babylonian invention of great antiquity; and eclipses of the sun and moon could be foretold.

The Babylonian system of mathematics was sexagesimal, or a base 60 numeral system. From this we derive the modern day usage of 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, and 360 (60 x 6) degrees in a circle.
The Babylonians were able to make great advances in mathematics for two reasons. First, the number 60 has many divisors (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, and 30), making calculations easier. Additionally, unlike the Egyptians, the Babylonians had a true place-value system, where digits written in the left column represented larger values (much as in our base-ten system: 734 = 7Ã100 + 3Ã10 + 4Ã1).

Babylonian philosophy embodied certain philosophies of life ethics, in the forms of dialectic, dialogs, epic poetry, folklore, hymns, lyrics, prose, and proverbs.

Facts:

Sumerians used the wheel, cuneiform, arithmetic and geometry, irrigation systems, Sumerian boats, lunisolar calendar, bronze, leather, saws, chisels, hammers, braces, bits, nails, pins, rings, hoes, axes, knives, lancepoints, arrowheads, swords, glue, daggers, waterskins, bags, harnesses, armor, quivers, war chariots, scabbards, boots, sandals, harpoons, and beer.

my teacher has died some time ago. my martial art buddys have all gone away when i was sent overseas. (U.,S.Army soldier) after coming back ive got no-one to train with. what kind of training can i do to increase my speed everyday? or speed and accuracy training hitting small targets? what can i practice on my own? would anyone have a training layout or exercise i can do on my own? just preparing for the day if i happen to meet the "street-version" of bob sapp, oscar dela hoya, mike tyson, ect.ect. the thug version of these guys are out there. there is always someone better than you ive learned. many thats not famous or well known. i feel in my gut my time will come to defend myself. dreamed all my life about that one guy i fight to save my life. if anyone has a great method of increasing my speed and accuracy, pls share the knowledge. ill practice everyday. seems all ive learned from gung-fu, muay thai is just not enough. wing chun would love to learn.but need realistic training. thanx

Answer
Martial arts is more about building character than defending your life in confrontation. If you live in a bad area, deal with bad people all day long than work on striking, stamina, grappling, throws and leverages. You need a wide array of weapons if you hope to defend any guy looking to hurt you or worse.

The best solution to a fight is walk away. You only fight if your life is on the line or someone you love is in danger.

There is no single best answer to your question and not one excercise regimen that can prepare you to defend your life against all comers. But you can choose to prepare.

Fighting or conflict in general is a thinking man's game, use your mind before your muscle.

I would advise you to look into MMA if you want to win a fight. Keep practicing and be in shape. Street fights are short and almost always end violently and quickly. Usually the first guy to land a punch/kick wins. You may also wish to check out Kung Fu San Soo or a similar street effective training system that gets you in quickly and ends confrontations. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is extremely effective for ground fighting and one on one confrontation but stay off the ground in multi attacker scenarios unless you like boot marks on your face. ;-)

If you meet a tough as nails fighter like Tyson or the Golden Boy ask him for his autopgrah not a knock out punch. Smile, as if you can be of assistance, get to root of the matter and avoid the fight. You don't want to put him in the hospital and I'm certain he doesn't want to end up there.

Stay safe.

Lately ive been really into nail polish! Crazy right? I just started getting really into it. anyways.. I have a VERY large aray of nail colors and i cant think of anything to wear for spring! Whats in this spring? I know i shouldnt follow trends but i need something that matches everything! I also need easy nail art. I heard of newspaper nails, and im tottaly doing that. anyone have anymore ideas??
Thanks <3

Answer
pastels and nudes are really cute and in for spring!
try getting a thin brush in some pretty/glittery colors and practice drawing flowers, lines, dots, etc. there are lots of youtube vids on nails!
heres one way to do cool stripes: choose 2 colors. apply one as a base coat, let dry, then cut a piece of tape and put it on your nail and paint over it. let dry. when you take off the tape it will be striped, try doing it with different angles and colors! always make sure to put the lighter color on first, and a clear top coat at the end!
hope i helped!

Can anyone define "nail art" very accurately and elaborately?

Rockers Su

I would want to know details and a more elaborated answer/definition of nail art. Can anyone elaborate on it? Eg. What is the purpose of doing nail art? , which male stars do it? , etc
Luc, then what do males put?

Answer
A design like zebra stripes, flowers and any pictures small enough that will fit on a person's finger nails,
The purpose of doing nail art is the same reasons why anyone would wear any earrings (piercing), tattoos, henna, makeup, stylish hats clothes, hair do's and jewelry accessories ..... It's to STAND out.
There aren't too many males in general that will get their nails with designs on them but there are many that will get a manicure and pedicure for grooming purposes, though they usually will not get any colors polished on.

Do you have to storage nail polish vertically?

Elizabeth

i have this little tool box and i keep all my manicure & pedicure stuff in it. However the box is not big so i have nail polish lying sideways and stuff, will this cause damage for the nail polish or it doesnt matter?
Its just that we usually see nail polishes standing up, not lying down.

Answer
nail polish can be lying down, it just that the brush will be covered in it. it can be either way.

Nail polish storage ideas?

Taylor Phi

Hey ya'll!
So I'm a bit of a nail polish hoarder... I've got over 80 bottles! And no, I don't own a salon, this is just my stash at home! Currently, I have them just stored in a big basket in a cabinet in my bathroom, but it's so hard to find the one I want and I'm afraid that they'll break or something!
I wanted to buy one of those things that hangs on the walls, like they have in nail salons, but my mom won't let me because it would look really ugly in my bathroom, haha!
So does anyone have any other suggestion for how I could organize all this nail polish!?
I'd like to sort of organize it by color too, if it's possible.

Thanks for your suggestions! :)

Answer
They have table top nail polish racks that you could set up in your room

What is the best inexpensive nail salon in the valley?

isislovean

I'm from the east coast, where nails are essential and done well at a good price. (Usually 20 bux for a full set with nail artwork included in the price.) I'm looking for a similiar price range here in Arizona, but most nail places I've been to charge a whopping 35 dollars for a full set and 5 dollars per nail for artwork, that is IF they do indeed provide that service. Does anyone out here know of any nail salons that are not quite that expensive, that does good art work, and doesn't charge an arm and a leg? Please let me know I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

I'm buying my first 3D nail art from ebay but I have no idea what you use to stick it on with, is it the same glue used for fake nails? or is there something better?
getting these small fruits :] lol http://img.alibaba.com/img/pb/553/034/243/1271684549612_hz_myalibaba_web17_263.jpg

Answer
Personally when I use gems and such on my nails I just put them onto my nail varnish when it is still wet. After it dries in place I then add a few layers of clear nail varnish over the top to make sure it holds. Glue could be better, but I don't see the point of getting it when I can use what I already have.

Do any LONGtime office workers remember this office product?

roximunro

A small but bright intense pink bottle, much like a bottle of nail polish with a brush on the inside of lid, found in your desk drawer and used on typeface on either electric typewriters or manual typewriters? Bright highlighting fluid (or possibly ink remover) made of some kind of solvent that stank like nail polish remover? Circa 1970s?

I'm doing research for a scene in my novel and that bright pink bottle is in the story but for the life of me I can't remember what the stuff was called or who made it.

Help please! Thanks!
It definitely wasn't white-out. This was something other than white-out. It might have been highlighter fluid before they figured out how to put it in marker form like a jiffy marker.
I think it was made by Dixon, the same company that made Taperaser, which was like white-out in a carbon paper form that you stuck between the keys and the typed paged and retyped over. Semi-clear BRIGHT pink bottle, possible containing BRIGHT pink fluid? Still not sold on the white-out answers unless someone can find me a pic of the BRIGHT pink 1970s white-out bottle because that would help a LOT.
Or maybe Avery Dennison?

Answer
Yep, it was Wite-Out, a BIC product (the BIC folks make all the pens and stuff.) A very useful product. It had several different labels, because they designed it for several uses as technology required. They had a different version for copier toner.

One day, the Facilities guys came through and removed all of the bottles from everyone's desk. It was considered a hazardous waste product that would lead to lawsuits. It was replaced with the slower-drying water-based version.

The web site for their currently marketed versions of correcting products is here: http://www.wite-out.com/

Low Carb blown with white flour?

Bethany

I've been following Neris and India's Idiot Proof Diet for two weeks and have lost 8lbs and 3 inches off my stomach. I am thrilled with the results, but I cheated last night. I was making a cheese sauce for veggies and used about a tablespoon of flour to thicken it.

Have I derailed the diet?? How many carbs are in that LITTLE bit of flour anyway?

Answer
Apparently, there are 95.39 gm of carbohydrates in 1 cup of flour.

On the assumption that there are 16 tablespoons in 1 cup (liquid measure), that would make 5.96 gm of carbohydrates in 1 T. On the better assumption that there are 12 tablespoons in 1 cup (dry measure), that makes 7.9 gm/T.

Since its inception in the 1970s as the "Drinking Man's Diet", the carbohydrate-limited diet has been notorious as a VERY BAD approach to planning ones' eating habits because:

- the most important part of a healthy diet is complex carbohydrates

- risk of malnutrition because important nutritional elements are removed from the diet (e.g. 'fibre' is essential in avoiding constipation, in the short term, and colorectal cancer in the long term. Do you know the phrase "colostomy bag"?)

- because it works by ****ing up your metabolism, any weight lost returns almost immediately when a 'normal' diet is resumed

- temporary weight loss/gain leads to permanent wrinkles and stretch marks.

- permanent kidney damage/ketosis (symptom: your breath smells like nail polish remover). Do you like the idea of being slim - - and on a dialysis machine, or trying to find a donor kidney?

PLEASE, there are many more healthful ways of keeping oneself slim. There are NO QUICK TRICKS 'DIETS' that work more effectively than eating moderate quantities of a variety of foods, and regular physical activity.

What are some VERY EASY nail polish designs to do?

Mimi

The tools I have are obviously the nail polish, remover, I have mostly every color (be color specific please), a dotter, toothpicks, and that's about it. Make it simple, yet chic please.

Answer
Good day, as a nail art fanatic you can choose with those trending characters like candies on candy crush. With a person like you with lots of nail polish, before applying nail polish you must apply the clear nail polish and after that you can apply different colors each nails and let it dry. You can use a toothpick or pin on designing. Soak the pin or toothpick on the white nail polish and make a vertical lines with different widths. Then let it dry and lastly apply a clear nail polish for the last coating. Have a nice day.

Cute, easy nail tutorials?

Moonshadow

I recently did strawberry nails and got tons of compliments on them. I just finished painting my nails like Pandas, and I love that too. Both were from Bubzbeauty on youtube. Do you know of any more cute, fairly simple nail art that doesn't require a special brush? Youtube tutorials are preferable. Thanks!

How to do nail art with nail polish?

Bianca R

Im wanting to do some nail art but idk what tools to use ?and what is the very fine nail brush called and were can I buy it. Also what base polish should I use before any color goes on my nail and what top coat should I use

Answer
The tools used to do nail art are varied and depend on what you are doing.
For example, if you want to do a watermarble you'll need an orange stick (or a needle), a cup, water and nail polishes that spread quite easily on the surface of the water.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OO3NO29L50U
If you want to do dots, a dotting tool is the required. (you can make your own by using materials you have at home. This video teaches you how to do one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mHNAS0CpPo )
If you want to do marbling you'll need a thin brush or a needle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlK0yrIOq4c
Foils are a handy tool to have around.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tL6isZZaC1A&feature=channel_video_title
If you want to do fancy stuff like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGoCUmZiKYk You'll need acrylic paints.

I think the name of the brush is striper. Is it one of this? http://www.8ty8beauty.com/nail-art/images/nail-art-striper.gif You can buy it on ebay or amazon. There are some nail polishes that have a striper instead of a normal brush. the most common brands are 'kiss' and 'art deco'.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=nail+art+stripers&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=7736329326&ref=pd_sl_7ug49gskrp_b

The base polish is called base coat and it is very important, especially if you paint your nails very frequently. Here's an article explaining why you should use it.
http://www.essortment.com/nail-basics-use-base-coat-60192.html
Most of them are pinkish and it does make a difference.

I always use a regular top coat. However, if I'm using a konad design, I prefer to use their special top coat and when I'm using foil I tend to use top coat for foils.

Migi Nail Art? Is is a rip off? Is it worth the money for the whole pack?

mynameisma

i am very interested in nails at the moment. my friend ordered something on the internet called Migi Nail Art. i went on the website and saw that the WHOLE nail kit was $99. My mom thanks it is not worth all that money for nails. she also thinks it is a rip off. is it worth it?? is it a rip off?? Also can you purchase it in a store for at least $100. what store??

first one to give me a decent answer get 10 points!!

Answer
Ha. I love painting my nails too, or having my mom do it. I always get compliments and stuff.
My comment on "Migi Nail Art":
I think its a rip off. I've never used it, but you can do about the same thing with household items. Use the tip of a sharp pencil or a toothpick. Dip it in the paint (put some paint on a bag or paper plate) and design. I'm not sure if it will look as professional as this "Migi Nail Art", but my mom does mine that way and everyone loves them! They are totally fierce. You can use skinny paintbrushes too, for not so detailed things like hearts and such.
~hope that helps and good luck! i hope your nails look great!

How do I make a glossy finish from household items?

ChrisFitz7

I made some figures from fire-at-home modelling clay, and I have already fired them. As an afterthought, I would like them to have a glossy finish. Would egg whites do that? Or anything else made from household items?
Edit: by 'household items' I mean things likely to already be in the typical home. I have 3 tiny figures that I wish to make glossy. I don't intend to buy a 12oz can of anything. The goal is to buy nothing -- instead to use something (or some combination of things) to get the effect.

Answer
By "fire-at-home" clay, I assume you mean "polymer clay" --like Fimo, Premo, Sculpey, Kato, Cernit, etc.
(Technically "modeling" clay is plasticine, the kind of clay that will never harden--like ClayToons, etc. Many people tend to use the term modeling clay loosely though.)

If you're using a polymer clay, you can use any kind of gloss material you can find as long as it *isn't* petroleum-solvent based (something that would "clean up" with paint thinner --only with water or soap&water). I've never heard of anyone using egg whites on cured polymer clay, but you could certainly always try it.

Some of the more common materials used to give a gloss or a sheen to polymer clay are:
...clear polyurethanes (sold at hardware stores to seal bare wood)...gloss, indoor, Varathane is a favorite
...Future (now called Pledge with Future Shine) or Mop 'N Glo (floor polishes)
...clear nail polish (not the ones called "enamels")
...any of the clear sealers sold at craft or art supply stores (glossy, if you want that effect)
..."decoupage mediums" like ModPodge or Royal Coat, or just a permanent white glue like Elmers GlueAll thinned down 3 or 4 to 1 with water... or "dimensional" white glues like Diamond Glaze (none of those will be quite as impervious to scratching or humidity as the others mentioned but probably fine)
...2-part epoxy resin (like Envirotex Lite) or epoxy glue (like Devcon's 2 Ton)

Polymer clay can also be given a sheen all the way up to a high glossy shine by "sanding and buffing" it.
Wet-dry sandpaper (black in color) is used along with some water. For most items, sanding (briefly) with 400 grit then 600 grit will be fine.
Then buff --use hand buffing on your jeans or with any cloth to get a nice sheen... or use an electric buffer with a muslin/cotton wheel to go all the way up to a high gloss.
(Polymer clay can also be given a nice sheen with clear waxes like shoe polish. And rubbed-in Vaseline could work a bit too. )

You can get loads more info about all those materials and techniques on these pages of my polymer clay "encyclopedia" site if you're interested:
