What happens if you drink nail polish remover?

-_____-;;

Today at school, a classmate put a nail polish remover pad into someone's water and told someone to drink it. The boy took a sip and realized what was in it, and went to the nurse. He complained of stomach ache and feeling dizzy. He's going to the doctor now, will anything happen to him, even if it was just one sip?

Answer
Acetone, is one of the ingredients for making Methamphetamine, and yes, it is poison in even small amounts.
Your friend will be very sick for a few days, but should survive without too much damage to his liver.

I need a Baritone/Bass NYSSMA Level VI-type piece that isn't classical.?

kazman1010

I want to audition for the Long Island High School for the Arts. For the vocal audition, I need to perform two All-State/All-State caliber pieces. I am currently learning Ralph Vaughn Williams' "The Vagabond." I want to show them I have musical diversity and am looking for an All-State caliber piece that is not classical. I'm very open to Musical selection.

Answer
I am a NYSSMA judge and taught HS vocal music for many years. But if this does not NEED to be NYSSMA - then you are free to choose what you wish. The Manual is HARDLY the best source for literature for ANY voice or instrument; you need to talk this over with your private teacher ( why do I think you might not have one?? - Oh yeah - you are asking HERE . . .) IF they specify that they MUST be from the Manual - then you need a voice teacher near you to open it and go over things with you. No, I cannot send you a list of all the baritone and bass Level 6 solos that might meet your needs - the list is proprietary, meaning we do NOT share it in public - the whole point being, that you need a teacher's instruction to learn things this hard - so you are not going to choose it by yourself. Does this make sense?

So - independent choice? You do the research. Required to be from the NYSSMA Manual - find a teacher near you who owns the Manual, and will let you see it. I know that this sounds like I am being a stinker here, but I am NOT - you need to tell us in which direction you need to go! Meanwhile, I will see if I can get a better sense form their website. I want to help - but need more info from you AND them.

Added - They DO want NYSSMA level V or VI solos. One if you are applying to the Musical Theater Dept, and TWO if the vocal music department. If vocal music - ONE must be classical - the other is not specified. but does not ask for a theatrical song. http://www.bocesculturalarts.org/ourpages/audition_reqs.pdf?rn=1481244

So - find yourself a teacher with the Manual and look it over. I hope you have an excellent *private* teacher - you will need to NAIL this to get in. Hope your sight-reading is good ( use solfege much?) and you need to sing some warm-ups and scales - probably in solfege, major and minor. Again, from you question it is unclear to me WHICH department you are applying for - you have a little but of both in your question. I would guess Vocal department - if classic literature is your strong suit, then AVOID show material - a ton of kids are going to show up doing that (how many times can they hear "Where is the Life That Late I Led?") Good luck- this is a WONDERFUL place for you to go to school - WONDERFUL!!!!!!

How to get water at room tempreture?

nail art with water

Igloo

Im doing a water marble nail art and need to get a bowl of water at room tempreture. Could someone explain to me how to get tap water at room tempreture?
Im sorry i've just realised i put this in the wrong category!
Also if i should leave it sitting, for how long?

Answer
Yes, simply leaving it in the room will get it to the temperature of that room. How long it takes depends on several things. The volume of water, the temperature adjustment required, container shape (that the water is in) etc. I would say for water straight out of the tap, it would take a bowl full about 4 - 6 hours to equalise with the room.
If you have a thermometer, you could half fill from the tap and add warm water in small amounts. Checking the temperature as you do will speed things up a lot. If that would not affect your hobby, of course...

EDIT
I don't want to sound patronising here, but it might. If you do have a thermometer, remember to note the room temperature first before mixing the water to attain it. Leave the thermometer in the room for 5 minutes before taking a reading. Don't place it near or on heat or cold sources like radiators, direct sunlight, metal surfaces and so on. Best of all is to suspend it in the middle of the room.

What type of nail polish works the best for this?

Marlee

I want to do water marble nail art, but I don't know what polish works the best. I've looked all over the internet and I can't find anything that tells me what brand I should use. Help?!!!!?

Answer
Sally Hansen and China Glaze work best, although sally Hansen is cheaper. OPI works efficiently, but doesn't transfer to the nail as easy as sally Hansen and China glaze. Essie formula is too thick and doesn't swirl well in the water

Hope this helped and good luck :)

How to clean a nail polish brush?

Heebiegbee

I have a nail polish brush that is gummy and matted, but I don't want to throw it out cause there is a lot of polish left in the bottle. How do I clean it and for how long?
Thanks!

Answer
Try swilling it around in nail polish remover. Then once most of it is gone, rinse the rest of it off with plain water until you're happy with it. ^^

Although if the brush is gummy and matted, chances are that the polish is gummy and matted too. Mix a teeny bit of nail polish remover or water with the polish to get it good again.

Hope this helps!

Crissy

For this month? I like to have a different nail design every month. For February I painted my nails with a silvery pink color to make it seem snowy, and added heart confetti to incorporate valentines day. Next month for April I will be putting on flower nail art "stickers" since it's spring. I want ideas on what to do this month. DO NOT SUGGEST CLOVERS. I don't want anything St Patricks day related, because I really hate St Patricks day.

Answer
I think you should do a mardi gra theme since mardi gra is this time of year. Use purple as the base and then use gold and green glitter over it to add sparkle! :)

One of my question has a line trough it?

Babesbrown

One of my question has a line trough it and I can't select it and it has no fowl language in it why? This is the question (My 3D nail art sticker does not stay on, after 2 days it starts lifting up, how do I keep it from doing that?) Please tell me why?

Answer
A line through it means the question has been deleted. If your question was reported as a violation, it would have been deleted, and you would have received a notice telling you why. But questions are also deleted when they receive no answers, no one votes in the voting period, or if "no best answer" wins the vote.

For gel nails do they still glue on that fake nail? or do they mold a nail using gel?

nail polish 1 finger different color image

hj

I was told that I got gel nails, but it feels like its acrylic to mel. I thought gel nail is suppose to be softer and that they mold a nail using gel instead of glueing the fake nail on to the tips of my finger.

Answer
I think your main confusion is that you aren't sure what was used on you due to lack of proper explanation from professional.
To help I will walk you through the different styles of nail enhancements that are most confusing to most customers cause of lack of knowledge on part of there nail professionals.

1) Gel enhancements aka " Light concepts (LCN), permanent french, forever french etc" - are a UV light cured products.
*FYI- Light Concepts (LCN) is actually a brand name a company based out of Germany and has a high price tag attached to service and not a service description or type of service. One of the best gel products out there but costly!

Gels mean all parts of the service is using a product that needs to harden under the UV light source, product looks like a honey consistency normally in a jar not glue. Glue is ONLY used as part of gluing on tips, NOTHING ELSE!!! Product colors include traditional pink, white, clear, companies are now coming out with every color of the rainbow from basic colors like black, red ,blue to pastels. Service is done by tech using a brush to apply either sculpturing your nails by using a form, overlaying the product over natural nails to "wrap" them or using a tip and then overlaying the product on top, tech files, shapes nail then tech's finish the look by applying a light cured product to give long lasting shine.
"NAILS CANNOT BE REMOVED WITH ACETONE POLISH REMOVER " Nails are Acetone proof, removed only by filing off or chipping away at it. meant for long term use. NEVER has to removed or new sets applied if done correctly. Maintance done every 2 to 3 or 4 weeks accordlingly to nail growth

UV LIGHT IS USED THROUGHOUT ENTIRE SERVICE

***If service doesn't involve a UV lamp ("almost looks like a tanning bulb") throughout the service and not only at the end. You didn't get gel nails***
***(The following scam is found to be a common practice among asian salons here in NYC and maybe in other cities across the USA)
***BEWARE of Salons that say "Gel" nails and then service includes brush on glue and then dipped into powder etc maybe even followed by UV Cured polish sealant aren't Gel nails in fact you just got powder and glue nails one of the worst things you can do to your nails as well as it doesn't last long and needs to be replaced every couple of weeks as well as being filled in on a weekly basis***

2) Acrylic Nails - aka pink and whites etc - Every Color you can imagine they come in for the powder component. Colors used as well as traditional pink, white, clear, natural etc
Service is done by tech either sculpturing your nails by using a form, overlaying the product over natural nails to "wrap" them or using a tip and then overlaying the product on top. Product is a two component system by combining a liquid and powder to create "acrylic" by dipping the brush into liquid then followed by powder to form a ball and placed onto nails either by using 3 or more balls to create a nail then filing the nails when dry. Most tech's finish the look by applying a light cured polish product to give lasting shine. Nails become Acetone proof when done with UV topcoat!!!
ITs NOT to be Confused with UV Gel services totally two diffrent services but if done by a pro can look the same but its not!!!!
***BEWARE again of Salons that say "Acrylic" nails and then using brush on glue and then dipped into powder etc aren't Acrylic nails in fact you just got powder and glue nails one of the worst things you can do to your nails as well as it doesn't last long and needs to be replaced every couple of weeks as well as being filled in on a weekly basis.

I hate the fact that some "nail professionals"that feel it is necessary to scam there clients into thinking they got something good meanwhile they use crappy products!!!
I have that problem here in NYC only with "Salons" saying that they do LCN and then they use some other product that looks nothing like the real thing or what was mentioned earlier in my post ot the above persons post. It further confuses the costumer into believing she got this great product and then she questions why she has mold, her nails are breaking etc.

Hope this helps! Contact me if you have more questions

what is the history of nail polish?

jennifer s

what is the history of nail polish? where did it originate from? what is a factoid about it? whats a different variation of the origin?

Answer
Nail polish seems to have been originated by the Chinese around 3000 B.C. The Japanese and Italians thought to have been the first ones to actually to use nail polish.[citation needed] The Chinese used a colored lacquer, made from a combination of gum arabic, egg whites, gelatin and beeswax. They also used a mixture consisting of mashed rose, orchid and impatien petals combined with alum.[citation needed] This mixture, when applied to nails for a few hours or overnight, leaves a color ranging from pink to red. The Egyptians used reddish-brown stains derived from the henna plant to color their nails as well as the tips of their fingers. Today, some people still use henna dyes to draw intricate, temporary designs on their hands in a practice known as Mehndi.

During the Chou Dynasty of 600 B.C., Chinese royalty often chose gold and silver to enhance their nails. A fifteenth-century Ming manuscript cites red and black as the colors chosen by royalty for centuries previous.[citation needed] The Egyptians also used nail color to signify social order, with shades of red at the top. Queen Nefertiti, wife of the king Akhenaton, colored her finger and toe nails ruby red and Cleopatra favored a deep rust red.[citation needed] Women of lower rank who colored their nails were permitted only pale hues, and no woman dared to flaunt the color worn by the queen or king.[citation needed] Incas were known for decorating their fingernails with pictures of eagles.[citation needed]

It is unclear exactly how the practice of coloring nails progressed following these ancient beginnings. By the turn of the 19th century, nails were tinted with scented red oils and polished or buffed with a chamois cloth, rather than simply painted.[1] Even a century later, women still pursued a polished, rather than painted, look by massaging tinted powders and creams into their nails, then buffing them shiny.[1] One such polishing product sold around this time was Grafâs Hyglo nail polish paste.[1] Some women during this period painted their nails using a clear, glossy varnish applied with camel-hair brushes.[1] When automobile paint was created around 1920, it inspired the introduction of colored nail enamels.[1] Michelle Ménard is credited with inventing the beginnings of our modern day colored nail lacquers.[citation needed]

How to remove Sharpie from vinyl flooring?

RickyRicar

My 2 year old got ahold of a Sharpie (black) and scribbled all over the vinyl floor in my kitchen! The vinyl is white / light tan mix, and I have been able to remove most of the ink, but a "ghost" of it still remains. I have tried Lysol Clearner, rubbing alcohol, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (extra strength), nail polish remover...nothing has worked. We are showing the house tonight, and I need help ASAP!

Answer
There is a special product they use to remove graffiti - I think it is called GoofOff or something like that. You can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot. Works like a charm.

How do I organize my nail polish?

Morgan-ann

I LOVE painting my nails, I'm obsessed with nail art. I have over 70 bottles of nail polish (I know that's a lot) but I have it in a box right now. I tried putting stickers on them and painting the stickers so I know what color is what. I've tried separating it by color but all the bottles are different sizes and shapes so it's complicated to keep it together. I want a DIY way to organize it along with all my tools such as dotting tools, nail wheels and what not. Is there anything I could buy at like Walmart and Target that can keep my nail polish neat and organized? I don't want a caboodle, I can't find one big enough to fit everything. I want to be able to stand my nail polish up, and have tiny compartments. I've tried using a box and cutting up straight pieces to make my own compartments but it isn't working.

Answer
You could try going to Wal-mart and finding colorful cute boxes there to put your nail polish. I am obsessed with painting my nails too, i also have many different shapes and sizes bottles of nail polish. I organize them by the brand the nail polish is, or put the smaller bottles on the front while the taller bottles are in the back, Or like i said before, you could try going to Wal-mart or Target and find Organizers there like a wall rack, nail polish makeup cases, and for an easy find to find you nail polishes, add stickers of the color that's in the container, hope this helps ! (:

Some good ideas for a 17 year old girly girl room?

GoldenButt

Okay i turned 17 not long ago, i'm redecorating and have redecorated a LOT. I have a new nightstand with a mini easel and a new lamp with a zebra print shade, i have pictures on my walls and new storage boxes, most are french themed... I have an accent couch in my bedroom, tons of pillows and new sheets already.. We're painting my walls white and my doors light pink, i'm getting a new beige or light pink carpet soon and i even got a new door nob.

I'll stop from there but basically what i'm trying to do is not buy so much but actually get more creative and makes some unique. I already made a bracelet holder, a headband holder, and even a nail polish rack which i'm nearly done decorating.. Any other good ideas? It can be literally anything as long as it's girly girl and unique. I LOVE getting creative and making my own stuff by the way, i'm good at it. Oh and also, i'm making a bow holder board and i have a ribbon board where i hold pictures. So anymore ideas?
OH and an add on, i love not only zebra print, leopard print, and crazy hot pink or crazy designs like that but i also love very classic, very vintage and natural colors like beige, light pink, white.. I even have a few items on my dresser that my grandma gave me, that are from the early 19th century. Like a 1950s powder box and a 1940s jewlery box. And i love love LOVE french themed things and accent things.

Answer
You should try making a camera out of an Arizona tea can. Just go watch macbarbie07 DIY video.

In history a few years ago, we went over a little magazine quiz from the 50s that was called the "sweethearts test" and it was a quiz for young couples. it judged whether or not the readers are good/bad bf/gfs. How to prevent/solve clumpy nail polish??

KC

I paint my own french pedicures and I use a white nail polish from CVS. I hardly have to paint my toenails and when I do paint them, I don't use much of the white nail polish. But the nail polish still seems to thicken and get clumpy... It's so annoying because I have almost 3/4 of the bottle left, but it gets clumpy and hard to use... I was wondering if there was a way of preventing the thickness of nail polish??

It's not the most expensive type of polish.
I know I screw the lid on tight.
I hardly use it.
Several people have said "nail polish thinner"... I have never heard of this, it's brilliant, haha... Does anyone know about how much it costs??

Answer
DO NOT use nail polish remover... it will reduce the wear of the polish... (think about it.... polish remover.... ) if you can't find a thinner, then running it under hot, and i mean HOT water will temporarily do the trick. Even OPI, (alpine snow) is horrible, gets thick quick. I think it must be something in the white pigment. Anyway, if you go to any salon that uses Seche Vite, you might want to ask them if they can order you a bottle of Seche Restore. It's about $8. I don't see why they wouldn't order it for you... I would :) Good luck!

How do i clean my bjorndal boots?

Kendall

I have a pair of bjorndal boots that are great knock offs for uggs, but they've gotten some mud dried on them and a splash of nail polish here and there. Any tips on how to clean them?

Answer
Im gonna help you out and really educate you on the UGG boot. Ug Ugh Ugly and Ugg are all generic words that discribe a type and style pf footwear made from sheepskin mainly in tthe country of Australia. Under International Law it is illegal to either trademark(R) or copyright (C) and generic word that discribes a product sold to consumers. So how did UGG australia get that coveted (R) on there boots every girl in America looks for to prove they have the only "real" genuine UGG boots? Let's be nice and just say they were not too honest in trademark(R) court when the judge asked them what the word UGG meant. To learn the entire story google UGG WARS. One other thing the company UGG australia (also has a parent company) tried to stop UGG boot makers in the country of Australia from using the name UGG on there boots which they have been using for over 100 years.UGG australia even tried to close down an Australian UGG boot maker that was nice enough to hire handicapped workers. How nasty is UGG australia that ghey tried to put handicapped people out of a job? With that said there really are alot of "real" UGG boots out there available to everyone. People just need to realiaze that they have been decieved and mislead into believing that UGG australia is the only "real" UGG boot when in fact it is not!!! Here are some awesome "real" UGG boots: EMU australia at emuaustralia.com . Whooga at whooga.com . Koolaberra at koolaberra.com . Minnetonka at DSW and dsw.com (use coupons and you get even a better deal) Bear Pawz at Famous Footwear . Also to learn more about UGG boots visit shoes-boots.net and sheepskindirect.com as they will show you alot of footwear and tell you all about UGG footwear too. You will even learn how to clean your boots too.

Let tthe mud dry completely. Take a stiff suede brush and gently brush off the dirt. As far as the nail polish goes try asking on one of the two sites above. BTW you have really nice UGG boots.

I love weird things like Tim burton movies, black veil brides, wicked (broadway). I'm buying nail pens and I'm a beginner so what should I paint on my nails and are there any video tutorials for them?

Answer
Paint a solid dark color, then, with french manicure white and a toothpick (don't use the brush), draw a knife or scissors or spider web or write across "EGAD!" or "GROSS"

How to make my own fingernail decals?

kiki

I see people who have cute decals for there fingernails & they dont look store bought..I wanted to know what kind of paper is used? Also how to make them small enough to fit on fingers & whts put on so ink wont bleed when they get wet?

Answer
Those may not be decals--they may be painted-on designs. You'd need nail polish in the colors you want in your design and you need artist's brushes. You may need specialty pens, rhinestones, other decor, and glitter. You'll also need an appropriate top coat.

Here are web sites with designs to use for inspiration, many of which do not require decals: http://www.nailsmag.com/nailArt/NailArt.aspx
http://www.buzzle.com/articles/nail-art-designs-for-beginners.html
http://www.wikihow.com/Do-Nail-Art

You'll need appropriate brushes, which will be liner brushes such as this one: http://www.acmoore.com/p-35859-crafters-choice-gold-taklon-liner-brush-size-1.aspx or script liner brushes such as this one: http://www.acmoore.com/p-35981-soft-grip-golden-taklon-script-liner-brush-size-0.aspx You might find less expensive script brushes at craft stores. Be sure to clean the brushes in nail polish remover when you are through using them, and they will last a long time.

B&A writers, what does your workstation look like...?

K

wherever you keep your notebook or computer in which you write your books? is it messy or neat-freakish?

my answer: i thought of this because mine is very messy. I have my laptop, three empty soda cans, about $20 in cash and change from my pockets, 3 books (including my recently-won signed copy of Radiance by Alison Noel) and about 7 "manuscript" pages of our school newspaper that i must edit soon, a bottle of sky blue nail polish, my ipod, a fork, a hair clip, a measuring tape (that i actually used to answer a B&A question! dont ask), a Hunger Games bookmark, along with some Henna artist tattoo powder (in a bag of course!)....so messy!

BQ; which tabs do you keep open whenever you get online?
BQ2: favorite song?

quote of the day:
"You'll see it when you believe it."

sister Kat <33
BQ (my answer) Facebook, Yahoo Mail, B&A, Google Groups, and my homework :)

BQ2 (my answer) anything by Glee! right now, Imagine and Billionaire <3
edit: oops! how could i forget iTunes!!! i always listen to music
@billet: BAHAHAHA....love it love it love to the extreme! totally accurate. that just sums up the average student.

Answer
Zomg I took a photo the other day. I was just chilling, and I was looking for one of my texts books. And upon the search, I took a moment to glance around and I realised how much of a sty my study area is.
Seriously. LOOK AT IT!
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x127/elizasrank/Abstract/IMG_0481.jpg
My mum is real proud of me.

Mind, it's only a temporary establishment until I've completed my exams.

EDIT:
BQ: Usually, sort of - Facebook, email, Y!A, Twitter, porn - nah, I'm joking about the last one... really.

But recently it's - Y!A, email, TV guide, Tumblr, Twitter, Formspring, Youtube, Texts From Last Night... and sometimes Board of Studies... if I feel like studying. Which is never. Yeah. I gave my Facebook away while I do these exams, so I've invented about 50 other methods of procrastination. God, I'm amazing.

BQ2: Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin.
I was walking through the house yesterday, carrying my 500,000,000 textbooks, and I was positive they were going to fall on me. So I said to my sister;
"Sarah, if I die. I want Stairway to Heaven played at my funeral."
And she said;
"I know."
And it was a beautiful moment.

how do you get tape residue off a painted wall?

reina_ap

I have a number of sticky spots on my wall where the tape used to be and I'm wondering how to get those out! I've tried nail polish remover but that just took off part of the paint, and oil leaves a oil mark and doesnt do much for the spot either. I'm in Spain so certain things are not avaliable here (like goo gone).

Any home "remedy" ideas?

Answer
I use a product called Labelclene which comes with an application brush and dissolves the sticky residue left behind by tapes and labels. It's a product made in the USA I believe, although I'm UK and it's available here no problem. An electrical repair store should be able to get this stuff for you.

Recommend some good green nail polishes?

Marco

Brand doesn't matter, preferrably under $10 and available in the USA.
I have plenty of teal and blue, but I am lacking in greens because I never find one I really like.

What's your favorite green color nail polish and why?

Answer
Hi!
I love all kinds of green.. I think Essence, Catrice and Gosh are all available in the US, right? And NYC for sure. From gosh, my favourite is "Forest Floor". From Essence there are some new greens that are really cool: "Upper Green Side" and "We Rock The Green". Catrice has some new greens as well, all very different. NYC "High Line Green" is very vibrant and great for summer.

You can check out the colours here: http://manisandmakeovers.blogspot.nl/search/label/green

Hope this helps!
