Twilightlo
I am going to a 50s dance with my freinds and im wearing a purple felt poodle skirt. But I dont know what nail polish, makeup, shirt and shoes I should wear. Were black convereses for girls or boys?
Answer
a pink felt skirt with a black poodle on it and black and white saddle oxfords and bobbie socks. Don`t forget your ponytail, hairdo. Very little makeup and red lipstick. Have a great time Most of the time we took our shoes off because they were called sock hops.

looking for article called "sweetheart test" from the 50s. any ideas where i could find it online?
nat
In history a few years ago, we went over a little magazine quiz from the 50s that was called the "sweethearts test" and it was a quiz for young couples. it judged whether or not the readers are good/bad bf/gfs. I want to show my friends because the questions and answers were so silly (does she wear nail polish? if so, she might be morally loose! lol)
any idea where this could be?

I always find these really old articles interesting because you really do see how the majority mindset was with gender roles and responsibilities, etc were. I found this really great book with articles includes you should check out: http://books.google.com/books?id=Bhao4MW_nbQC&pg=PA97&lpg=PA97&dq=1960+good+housekeeping+articles&source=bl&ots=8JZk0bgV7r&sig=QNIEDHX2O1y3pZhe3iOjxDDW5EU&hl=en&ei=KpOMSZbFGIzgMJD7gIwL&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=5&ct=result#PPA99,M1
