What are some easy nail art techniques for a beginner? It would be great if you could link tutorials, as well.

Answer
Start out with dotticures :) They are so much fun and really easy! All you need is a dotting tool, or a bobby pin and a toothpick :)

Are there any Japanese beauty schools in New York City?

xxx

I want to learn the Japanese technique of nail art, makeup and hair.

Answer
Cosmetology school is Cosmetology School. If you want to learn how to do it the Japanese way, You go to Japan, become a citizen, and go to School in that country. Just to add, You don't need a "Japanese school" to do what they do. You can learn it all after you graduate and take classes. It's the same way ANYONE can do make up, or nail or hair.

Do you like creative and cutesy stuff, plus getting lots of packages in the mail? You could ask for a gift package subscription. You'll get a cute fun package once a month, and each time it's full of fun surprises (check out their site for samples).

The name of the company is fair ivy surprise package subscriptions. I get them for my sister and she almost freaks out waiting for the mail each month.

What is the difference between goth and emo?

nail polish videos for kids
on Hopscotch Kids Safe Non-Toxic Nail Polish for Kids (Giveaway ...
nail polish videos for kids image

Leslie

I love them both.

Answer
"goth" i believe is an actual style, whereas "emo" is a label and stereotype. the "emo" people you see are actually usually "scene" or "punk" kids. if anyone calls themselves "emo" they are 99% likely of being a poser.

stereotypical goth: wears all black, with maybe a hint of red, or purple or white, usually have black hair, sometimes they may have colored hair like blue hair. they usually wear black or bright red lipstick. not all wear eyeliner, but some do. they wear combat boots and black and white striped leggings, and dresses that are tight on the top, but usually more frilly on the bottom and stuff like that. they like to keep their skin very pale. i heard that they are well well-read. are attracted to graveyards and other spooky stuff. listens to music like The Cure

stereotypical "emo": cuts themselves, are bisexual, suicidal, wears all black, skinny jeans (guys wearing girls pants), wears tight band tee shirts wears a lot of eyeliner (even guys wear eyeliner, apparently), has black hair with maybe streaks of color in their hair, guys and girls wear black nail polish, are very emotional, and overemotional about their girlfriends/boyfriends, and when they split with someone, they are really really sad. they listen to whiny screamy music or stuff like Aiden, Black Veil Brides, My Chemical Romance, etc.

HOWEVER, i do not agree with that. that is just what many people think. I am labeled by other people BOTH goth and emo, and i dont get it....... do i fit some of the stereotypes? yes, but i do not label myself goth or emo. if you want to learn about the whole goth thing, google or youtube it using the word goth, but make sure the website/ video is a reliable source, and not that stereotypical. if you want to look up about the "emo" thing, then google it, but dont use the word "emo". use the words "scene" and "punk". if you have ever google imaged "emo kids" or something like that, all you see is scene kids anyway..... or just ask a REAL goth person or a scene kid or punk kid or something..... idk

How often do you get your kids or teens special things for no reason? (eg:Starbucks, video games, nail polish)?

Tyedyegurl

And what do you usually get them special? Also their age

Answer
My mom brings home things like that occasionally. Once every month or two maybe. Not that often, just if she's at the store and something catches her eye and makes her think of me. Like a small can of Nutella or a cute little stuffed animal or something. I love stuffed animals xD A couple weeks ago I bought a shirt and the first day I wore it, somehow it got dotted with bleach. Still don't know where that came from but a few days ago she saw the same shirt on sale and bought a copy of it in my size. I also have this bottled drink that I absolutely love but it's a little overpriced, so she'll pick up a four-pack every couple months or so as a small present.
I'm 16.

And to "Sleepy" -- you disgust me. You are the epitome of terrible modern parenting. Knowing your children are bullies and supporting it. I'm in absolute disbelief after reading your comment. Bullying is not okay, I don't care if you think it shows that they have confidence, that shit is not okay. You as a parent should never, ever support the physical or mental harming of another child by your own children. What if your children were the ones being bullied? Would you be okay with that? Sterilize yourself. You don't need to be having any more children if that's how you raise them.

Yesterday I bought some 3D nail art bows, and I haven't put them on my nails yet, as I like to make sure I can take them off before I put them on. Will soaking them in Warm, Soapy water dissolve the Glue and get them off? Thanks :)

Answer
Try filling the sink with hot soapy water and putting one cap of nail varnish remover in too. If they are still hard to get off try adding more nail varnish remover to the mix :)

Btw I love the bows they are super cute!

Where can I buy OPI Black Shatter Nail Polish?

crackle nail polish 90s image

Live,laugh

I really like Katy Perry's Black Shatter Nail Polish and I don't have an Ulta in my area at all. Where else can I buy it? I have a Trade Secret, a Target, and thats about it. Haha please help me! I was thinking about ordering from Amazon but I'd rather buy it in person so I can pick up some other polishes as well.

Answer
You can buy it anywhere you can buy OPI polishes that regularly come out with the new collections (so even though Target sells OPI, you won't find the new collection there. And no, Sally's, Sephora, and MAC do NOT sell OPI). You can buy it at Ulta, JC Penney salons, Trade Secret, or possibly some salons near you. Recently, OPI sent out another batch of these polishes. My Ulta was totally stocked last time I was there. You can also go to OPIs website (www.OPI.com) and in the top right corner is a "Where to Buy" link.
If you cannot find it, China Glaze has a line of 6 different colors of crackle polish (black, teal, pink, grey, purple, white). You can buy them at Sally's, though they might be sold out as well because they had more colors than just black. You might be able to find these online, too.
There are also other brands besides OPI and China Glaze that have crackle polishes. You'll have better luck searching with the name Crackle as opposed to Shatter. Crackle polishes actually came out back in the 90s by CoverGirl. OPI just renamed it to "shatter".
Some other brands that sell crackles are LaRosa, IsaDora, and Barry M. Also know that OPI is releasing several more crackles in different colors in the coming months.

Where can I buy the Katy Perry OPI nail polish?

girl

I have been looking for it everywhere, and don't answer base off of guesses, if you have personally bought it where did you buy it at?

Answer
Carina, I do not appreciate people copying and pasting my answers to questions without linking to the question I answered that you got it from. I wouldn't have minded at all if you just linked to a question where I answered that. Just for future reference.

To the asker,
You can buy it anywhere you can buy OPI polishes that regularly come out with the new collections (so even though Target sells OPI, you won't find the new collection there. And no, Sally's, Sephora, and MAC counters do NOT sell OPI). You can buy it at Ulta, JC Penney salons, Trade Secret, or possibly some salons near you. You can also go to OPIs website (www.OPI.com) and in the top right corner is a "Where to Buy" link.

If you're looking for Black shatter, and you cannot find it, there are some alternatives:
China Glaze has a line of 6 different colors of crackle polish (black, teal, pink, grey, purple, white). You can buy them at Sally's, though they might be sold out as well because they had more colors than just black. You might be able to find these online, too.

If you're looking for the other colors and cannot find them, here are some polishes that are almost identical or completely identical:
Teenage Dream - Sally Hansen in Strobe Light.
Last Friday Night - Sally Hansen Shooting Star or Sinful Colors in Hottie.
Not Light The Movies - Wet 'N' Wild in Grays Anatomy

Is there any practical application to the advanced mathematical research that is being published now?

nail art journal
on ai trouv a super sympa comme ide et comme a peut se ...
nail art journal image

OK

I look at the abstract math being published in journals by professors and graduate students and wonder how it does anyone any good, or ever will. I am an engineer and have a pretty good understanding of math, especially what is practical and useful. I don't ever see any use for this stuff they are publishing.

Answer
When Gauss first noticed the intrinsicness of curvature for surfaces in three dimensional space, he had no idea that his ideas would lead Poincare and Weyl to revolutionize the way people thought about geometry. When Poincare and Weyl developed the abstract tools of topology and differential geometry, they had no idea that Einstein would (with the help of Hilbert and other mathematicians) use their ideas to revolutionize the foundations of classical mechanics. And when Einstein developed his general theory of relativity he had no idea that one day NASA scientists would notice that the curvature of space-time induced by the Earth's gravity as predicted by his theory accounted precisely for the problems faced by early versions of what we now know as GPS systems.

So my first point is that many mathematicians (as well as scientists and engineers of all disciplines) have no idea if their work will one day have "practical applications", and that should be OK with you. To demand that every scientist have a specific gadget in mind that will one day fit in our living room is to require one person to have the vision to see beyond the next two or three revolutions in human knowledge. The mathematical community has a pretty effective agreement with the rest of the scientific community: let the mathematicians decide what is important, and the scientists who make the great breakthroughs of tomorrow will probably have the right conceptual tools for understanding and quantifying them just waiting there to be used. Of course, given how much mathematics has infiltrated the cutting edge of physics, biology, engineering, economics, and most other sciences, it is not unreasonable to expect many of the breakthroughs of tomorrow to be motivated by mathematical developments.

My second point is that your understanding of mathematics is probably nowhere near good enough to justify the statement that you "don't ever see any use for this stuff". And I say that without even a trace of arrogance: it is impossible for your understanding of mathematics to be that good. Are you an expert in partial differential equations? If not, then you are ill-equipped to understand the state of the art in fluid modeling, thermodynamics, or optics. Are you an expert in algebraic geometry? If not, then there is little chance that you will understand the latest in cryptography or theoretical physics. Are you an expert in algebraic topology? If not, then the most recent developments involving the protein folding problem, network theory, economics, and quantum field theory will elude you. I could go on and on, but you get the idea: people really are doing something with this stuff. That doesn't mean it will be possible to justify every mathscinet article you pull up according to the standards of practicality, but then again if we knew exactly what is useful and what is not then we wouldn't call it "research".

My final point is that it is simply the nature of human curiosity that not every idea people come up with is going to have a particular, identifiable "use". Mathematicians are not gods that can immediately hone in on the right way to think about a problem - sometimes mathematical research starts somewhere interesting but then meanders off into a place that in hindsight wasn't as relevant as it seemed. When mathematicians start to zero in on a useful pattern or an interesting formalism but can't nail down exactly what is going on, often it is useful to sort through some obscure counterexamples that hint at how to proceed. Mathematical research is an organic, creative process that only works when nothing is off-limits, as long as it can be proven.

what should i use and write in my noteboook?

cici

okey i got tons of notebooks! i love notebooks! xD
this is what i got so far:
journal
diary
art journal
graditude journal
random journal
summer journal
smash book
junk journal
notes and ideas book
lyrics book
clebrity book
thoughts book
and a stories book
Okey i know that really narrows it down to like nothing LOL but i jut got this black compisation book, and i decorated it with nail polish, but inside its all blank! i want a unique idea please help i'll rate you 5 stars! xD

Answer
Dang! You've been doing some major writing. True it does narrow it down to almost nothing. Lol. But let me brainstorm for a sec....................... Hm, you coud:

1. Jot down your dreams down when you wake up.

2. Find a bunch of pictures of yourself growing up and create a journal about different parts of your life or you growing up. You can write about what you remember, too.

3. Make a collage book, where you throw in a bunch of pictures and drawings to create a random page. It can be themed, random, or expressive (examples: sad, angry, happy, cheery, sorrowful).

4. Have you ever tried writing poems? You like to write lyrics and similar things to that so you might like to write a book of poems? I'm guessing?

5. Fashion journal. I think this one is pretty self-explanatory. :D If not, you can just do whatever you want with outfits and stuff. Draw them, write about what you think of fashion these days... The pages are yours to fill.

Plus, you could always use journals for the same purpose. Writing down random thoughts, notes, everything and anything that you feel like jotting down is always an amazing idea. I think it's awesome that you write in journals so much! It's actually really good for you for several reasons. One of them being that you release any emotions, fears or worries your holding onto. Releasing stress. Which helps in almost everything.

If you get time could you answer mine please? Thank you so much if you do! Here's the link:

Are you supposed to apply the top coat while the nail polish is still wet?

Christine

I have heard that in order to get the best effect you should apply the top coat when the nail polish color is still a bit wet. Is this true? If not when is the best time to apply the top coat to help make the polish last longer?

Answer
When your nail polish is tacky (a little dry, but still damp), you should begin applying your topcoat. I usually wait about 2 minutes. This is how all the nail artists I've ever gone to do my nails, and it always lasts forever! So I copied the method and it works just as well for me :]

Also, make sure to wear a bottom coat to promote even more longevity. Our nails have natural oils in them that prevent the nail polish from adhering properly to the nail, which is why we absolutely must use a bottom coat!

So first use a bottom coat, wait 2 minutes. Then the regular color nail polish, wait 2 minutes. Then the top coat, wait a millllion minutes to dry (or use OPI quick dry drops http://www.beautyencounter.com/619828011039.html )

Have fun!

Krystal

I want beautiful nails. I also don't like nail polish because I prefer the natural look.

Answer
You can buy a Sally Hansen product called Grow Nails Now. It grows out your nails in 5-7 days. You can buy it anywhere and it cost about 5-6 dollars. It comes in a orange bottle.

You can also buy Sally Hansen Maximum Growth Formula. You can buy it anywhere and it cost about 5-6 dollars. It comes in a light pink bottle.

I'm not sure about the Maximum Growth one but for the Grow Nails Now all you need to do is massage it into your nails. So it's not really nail polish.

I would also recommend that you put a nail strengthener over it so your nails won't break, chip, or peel.

What can I do to keep my nails from splitting?

Q. I've tried wearing nail polish, gelatin, multi-vitamins, and the sally hanson nail strengthener. But no matter what I do, they split as soon as they grow out. How do I get them to stop that so I can have beautiful nails?

Answer
Nail strength seems to be more effected by environmental damage (i.e. any work that hits the end of the nail like housework, dishwashing or gardening), trauma to the nail (slamming it in a door) or some prescription drugs drugs (steroids). People tend to use nails as tools which increases breakage and can lead to separation of the nail from the bed below which will show up as a white line under the tip of the nail. Nails are ten times more porous than skin and can become chapped (dry) which can increase breakage. Increased exposure to water (dishwashing, cooking and swimming) does increase chapping of nails. So, protect your hands and nails when washing dishes.

How to get rid of watercolor stains on clothes?

Jin

Recently, at my school, there was a bomb threat while I was in my art class. So, while in a hurry to clean up and such, I got black and yellow watercolor pigments on my white sweater. I've washed it by hand several times now, but there's still a lot of pigment there, it's not as opaque, but still.

And for those wondering, the school's okay.

Answer
Scrub with Clorox Stain Remover.. It works!!! or listen to these steps!
Step 1Figure out what kind of stain it is. Grease stains, juices, wines, sandwich condiments, coffee, ink and chewing gum. We've all fallen victim to most of these. And they are each treated differently. So, make sure you know what it is so you know how to best treat it.

Step 2For grease stains, scrape off the excess solids with a butter knife. Place the stain face-down on a plain white paper towel. Squeeze a small amount of dishwashing liquid on the underside of the stain to break up the grease (hey, it works on dishes), and wait about a minute. Pretreat the the stain with detergent, and wash it on the warmest water setting that particular fabric can endure.

Step 3For juices, wines, coffee, tomato-based sauces and soft drinks, blot the stain with cold water. Then, sprinkle with the stain with salt so it can absorb the liquid. After a moment or two, wipe clean with club soda and pretreat for a wash cycle.

Step 4To get rid of chewing gum, rub the glob of goo with ice to harden it. Then scrape it off with a dull knife and wash.

Step 5 For ink, hold the portion of garment tight over the top of a glass or mason jar. Poor rubbing alcohol slowly over the stain, with your piece of clothing acting as a sieve into the container. Rinse and wash as usual.

Step 6 For most other stains, rinse, treat with stain remover and launder as usual. One exception is nail polish, which you should first rub with acetone (nail-polish remover), and then send through the laundry cycle.

I have these strange dreams, at some point there was the same girl in every dream, she was pale white with really long black hair and pale eyes. Most of my dreams are violent which really scares me.
Like I had this nightmare where I chainsawed some intruder in my house and you can feel the bones cracking and such.
Another was I was in my aunts room and there was blood and limbs everywhere.
Another was I was in my cousins garage and there was only one door opened. The light was on in the garage but the door was pitch black and then suddenly some deranged man comes running out with a nail on a board and stabs my friend. I ran inside and went upstairs... I see these two people with cat heads sitting at the top and they point to my parents room. I walk in there. Nothing was there except the moonlight shining and the curtains blowing. I stood in the middle of their bedroom and I see this blue man with an aura around him. He comes close and grabs some girl and sucks here eyeballs out, all I see was the chord that connects her eyeballs. And I look to my right and in the curtains were some demonic baby heads that were just floating and they hit some other girl in the head and her head explodes without doubt. In reality after I had the nightmare, months later I see the action figure of the blue man I saw in my dream and he was holding some mans head that has been ripped off... coincidence? I'm not sure
I have other violent horrific dreams that are so vivid as well but they would take to long to explain.

I also have these dreams where I'm in a setting... like I had a dream where I was in an orange house and I had just left it. After my dream, I don't know... months later I drive by the house I was at in my dream.
Another dream was my parents dropped me off at a house on a cliff looking over an ocean. Soon enough in reality I was dropped off in a city with my friends and as I was walking towards the pier I see the house below me everything so perfect like in my dream and I have never ever seen it in my life.
Another was that I was running away from this tornado, I ran in these wooden apartments and I guess I hid in a vending machine... but after I had the dream, months later I went to get a pet lizard and I drove by the scene where it happened. I have never been to the place either, it was my first time. The flat area with yellow grass, and the wooden apartments.
Another was I was in this mansion and there was a circus in it. The house overlooked the ocean. A year later I drove by the house while I was driving along the ocean, I saw it on a cliff.

I don't know what this means, but is it Deja Vu? because I'm not in the same position at the same time and moment. It doesn't feel like it because I already know that I dreamed about it but never knew the places ever existed.

Answer
Firstly, realize that your brain is capable of more than you could possibly even imagine...Have you seen the movie Limitless? If you have than you should know, it barely does justice to the true power of your brain. Dreams, as I mentioned several times in different answers, are basically a compilation of subconscious thoughts that never "made it through" to you; fears, desires, ideas, etc. Your brain dumps it all at night, and creates some kind of swirl that's a dream. Now, with the brain's infinite, tremendous power and genius, it puts together all sorts of predictions, using some sort of ultra-super-logic, of what could/might/would happen if the world were perfect. Once in a while these will come true in De-Ja-Vus. A de ja vu though sually refrers to when you don't remember seeing it in your dream until the moment you see it in real life, and suddenly "Oh, I saw this before!" all at once...

Personally, I believe that certain people can be gifted with certain abilities, for a variety of reasons that I will not get into for fear of instituting bias. Back to the point, though, are you particularly talented in any area of education (i.e. math, science, art, etc.)? It might suggest an association between your dreams and their occurrences in reality. Normally I'd suggest that these situations are de ja vus, even if you remember the dream before they occur, but you say you've never been to these places, which I find strange; is it at all possible you may have seen or noticed the places subconsciously, perhaps having driven past those areas or seen them on TV or whatever? Because then that would explain a lot of it.

Also, do you watch a lot of movies, play video games, etc.? It's hard to make association without real life details to associate with, but you get the idea...

EDIT:
In either case, I'm no expert on dreams, so I would definitely suggest seeing a doctor about the issue, someone who has experience and can suggest a more professional explanation; I'm purely theoretical.

What is a good present to buy my friend? She just turned 19?

*~*~*

I am on a realllly tight budget and can only spend around $15 but I don't want to look cheap either, any suggestions?

Answer
You could buy little lotions, sprays and other girlie items like nail polish, little soaps, a loofah, a one time app face mask- anyways the possibilities are endless and make her a girly gift basket or bag.

You could defiantly do that for $15 if you spent your money wisely. You could pick up a thing or 2 from like, here it's called a Dollar Tree (where everything is a dollar) like the gift bag or basket and a loofah. Some things you could find at the Dollar General Store and then the rest at Walmart, Walgreens or Right Aid. Walgreens is pretty notorious for awesome savings so find a coupon and don't be afraid to use it. Take advantage of that.

Your friend won't know, or even care where you got that stuff and she will really like all the different little gifts instead of just a cd or a shirt.

Can you get lead poisoning from nail polish?

creatively

Well, my uncle is mad i bought these cool 2-way nail art polishes from ebay and they are from hong kong, china. He thinks i'll get lead poisoning, but i think it will be fine cuz i bought it from a top rated seller, and there really hasn't been any incidents about lead poisoning from this product.

Answer
You can get it if you inhale it like smell it a lot but
the main ingredient in most nail polish is acetone: here's some more info, reference Wikipedia

Acetone is an irritant and inhalation may lead to hepatotoxic effects (causing liver damage). The vapors should be avoided. In no circumstance should it be consumed directly or indirectly. Always use goggles when handling acetone; it can cause permanent eye damage (corneal clouding).

Small amounts of acetone are metabolically produced in the body, mainly from fat. In humans, fasting significantly increases its endogenous production (see ketosis). Acetone can be elevated in diabetes. Contamination of water, food (e.g. milk), or the air (acetone is volatile) can lead to chronic exposure to acetone. A number of acute poisoning cases have been described. Relatively speaking, acetone is not a very toxic compound; it can, however, damage the mucosa of the mouth and can irritate and damage skin. Accidental intake of large amounts of acetone may lead to unconsciousness and death.

The effects of long-term exposure to acetone are known mostly from animal studies. Kidney, liver, and nerve damage, increased birth defects, and lowered reproduction ability of males (only) occurred in animals exposed long-term. It is not known if these same effects would be exhibited in humans. Pregnant women should avoid contact with acetone and acetone fumes in order to avoid the possibility of birth defects, including brain damage.

What is the proper name (if there is one) of the acrylic paint that they use to make 3-D acrylic nail art?

Sarah S

I'm not sure if its just called 3-D nail art paint, or whatever, but I want to know what its called.

And also, where might they sell it, and would it be expensive to buy?

Answer
I think this might be what you're on about, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pro-24-Colours-3D-Nail-Art-Glitter-Acrylic-Tip-Pen-New_W0QQitemZ160278697383QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item160278697383&_trkparms=72%3A1121%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Ebay is the only place I have seen them. I have bought them and used them and they're pretty good but not for on natural nails unless you have an hour spare to sit and let it set properly..it really does take that long before they are set hard enough not to smudge. Also, some of the colours just don't work well enough to do anything but dots with them...they won't drag into a shape etc.

How can i remove nail polish from where my skin meets my nail?

nail polish
 on Nail Polish 2
nail polish image

Ainslee__x

I tried using a nail polish (Cutex for Sensitive Nails), and that got all my nail polish off, except for on the edges of my nails where my skin meets my nail. Please help!

Answer
If you've already tried nail polish remover, it will likely just take time to wear off on it's own. Try using a hand lotion several times a day; the extra moisture will make it more difficult for the nail polish to stick, and it will start separating from the skin, and then you can gently peel it off.

How can I make my nail polish not thick and sticky and chunky?

Answer

I want to buy China Glaze nail polish from 8ty8 beauty, but I'm not sure if it's a "legit" and safe site. Does anyone know whether or not I should order from this site, and, if not, where else can I get China Glaze? Thanks!

Answer
Yes, it's a great website :) I've ordered from the site multiple times. It's definitely a safe, reliable website. It's a wholesale website that salons and businesses order from.

Cheap Opi Nail polish FREE SHIPPING?

Chloe

I really love Opi nail polish but I want to find a cheap site that ships for free. I tried 8ty8 and head to toe but they don't have opi :( neither does transdesign. Help?? Please don't say ebay..

Answer
Transdesign actually does carry OPI but there is a secret trick to it. You need to type in "OPI polish A-Z" into the Transdesign search bar, then click on the first link. As you may know Transdesign doesn't have free shipping though :(
