Girls: Have you done nail art on your nails...?

As

If so, what color and pattern is it..?

Answer
I do mine all the time now and I just love nail art - it is just so easy and the nail art products are so cheap to buy and they last ages!!

When I first started I didn't really know what to do so I just bought nail art stickers and stuck them ontop of my nail polish and sealed them with clear nail varnish - I just am so addicted to nail stickers now, I think they look great. It costs my £3.99 for 170 nail stickers and they last ages and my favourite is white flowers on dark red nail polish.

When I got a bit more confidence I started using nail art rhinestones (just put a bit of clear polish on your nail and they stick to it. ) These look great too.

My favourite just now is the crackle nail polish (W7 Earthquake range I find best)

I get all my products from www.onlinenailbar.com and they are so quick to deliver. I have only recently got my nail art brush set and I'm still experimenting but I can't believe how much I have saved since starting with nail art rather than the salon!

How To Get Red Nail Polish Out Of Carpet?

Shelbylyne

What can I use?

Answer
Removing Nail Polish from Carpet

Tip #1: Any non-acetone finger nail polish remover will take that off and not hurt the carpet. Take a paper towel soak it down a little and wipe it off. Try to keep the area contained that you rub, at first it will look like you are smearing it around, just keep changing paper towels with a new one until stain is gone. You need to change your cloth several times so you're not sliding polish over a bigger area. When done a liquid dish soap will get the smell out of the carpet.

Tip #2: I use the polish remover and blot, then GooGone works to remove the remaining stain.

Tip #3: When I spilt fuschia nail polish on my carpet I saturated it with non-acetone nail polish remover and scrubbed it with a white cloth. After the color stopped coming out on cloth (and it was still slightly pink on the carpet) I made a mixture of liquid dish soap, hot water and bleach and continued scrubbing until the nail polish came out (for white carpets only). If that doesn't work for you try using a fabric marker from a craft store and color over the stain.

Tip #4: I spilled dark purple nail polish on my light grey carpet. When I tried nail polish remover it didn't do a thing. Then a friend told me to try window cleaner and it worked great. I can't even tell it happened.

Tip #5: Tried the window cleaner on the nail polish on the carpet and it worked a treat. The nail polish remover made the carpet turn pink...Barbara

Tip #6: My 2- and 4-year-old grandsons gave me a "manicure and pedicure" for Mother's Day, and ...wouldn't you know it? Some polish ended up on the carpet. Go figure. Well, nan's don't complain. Inside I panicked. I had no nail polish remover, and no carpet cleaner. I tried vinegar on it, just blotting it, not rubbing, as instructed by my most recent professional carpet cleaners. You won't believe how completely clean it came! Did I mention that it was BLACK NAIL POLISH? I thought my carpet was finished! Now, if only I could think of how to...ahem... deal with my nails...Loretta

Tip #7: I tried to remove the giant purple nail polish stain from my green carpet with polish remover and all it did was smear the stain and frustrate me. I read that someone tried glass cleaner and that it worked, so I tried it. It did not take away the purple completely, but it did take away enough of it that it blends into the green enough to not be so shocking. Thank you to whoever came up with this idea. You saved my 4-year-old quite a few tears!!...Rachael

Tip #8: I live in military housing where the carpet is a cheaper variety and was mortified when I saw my girls had spilt nail polish on the carpet and tried to clean it up. I took the advice and used glass cleaner, all I had was the green multi surface type and it worked like a charm! You can't even tell it was there, save a bit of smell. That tip saved some young girls from a major grounding. P.S. The carpet was a neutral tan...Robert

Tip #9: I picked up a bottle of opi nail polish. The lid was not tightened and it went all over the side of the couch and the carpet. It was a bright pink and my couch and carpet are tan & green. I tried the nail polish remover. All it did was smear the polish, so I tried the window cleaner and it came right up!! Thank you so much!...Michele

Tip #10: Thank you for suggesting that window cleaner will remove spilled nail polish from a carpet! The nail polish remover did remove some, but the window cleaner worked great!...Christine

Tip #11: The windex was the trick. Thank you so much for the suggestion. I also tried the nail polish remover and it did get out a little bit of the purple polish out of the carpet but the Windex got the rest of it...Sue

Tip #12: After reading the tips on this site for removing nail polish from carpet, I tried it too! I spilt some red nail polish on my brand new tan colored wool carpet. I sprayed a little window cleaner and it came out so easily! I was amazed!!!!! Thank you so much!!...Brad

Tip #13: I just walked into my daughter's room and was greeted by 3 large red spots of fingernail polish on our tan carpet. I found this site, used the windex and the stain came right out! It was effortless and painless and I'm already over it! Thanks a lot for your great tip...Marie

Tip #14: I spilt bright orange high gloss nail polish onto my cream lounge carpet! Don't use nail polish remover - it just smears it. Use a glass or window cleaner spray - it works wonders! Next tip - don't polish your nails on your lounge carpet!!!!!!...Amanda

How to get nail polish out of carpet?

Double Nic

Answer
nail polish remover will work but USE CAUTION because it can also remove dye from your carpet or upholstery.

On light colored carpet it might not be noticeable but on darker colors. TEST FIRST!

For carpet, always test any kind of chemical stain remover/cleaner in an out of the way place like a corner. Under a cushion might be a good spot for upholstery.

Non-acetone polish remover is probably safer but no guarantees.

According to the author of Talking Dirty with the Queen of Clean, Linda Cobb, try the above mentioned methods and precautions with non-oily nail polish remover. If this does not work, buy straight acetone at a beauty supply house, pretest, and apply with an eye dropper or non-silver spoon, blotting immediately after every application. She adds that once the polish is removed, follow with Spot Shot Carpet Stain Remover (Apply as directed). If some polish still remains, apply hydrogen peroxide to lighten.

Name of this nail polish colour?

Nikka

it's beautiful!

Answer
It's called Riva. It came out in November? Maybe December. I follow a few polish blogs, and one very popular one offers Sephora by OPI in Havana Dreams or Rescue Beauty Lounge (I totally recommend) in Bikini Bottom as cheaper options that are very similar.
Another even more popular blogger said she was horribly disappointed in the quality of the polish. And she's pretty hardcore about cosmetics! Haha.
Here's the specific polish for purchase, though:
http://www.chanel.com/en_US/fragrance-beauty/Makeup-Nails-LE-VERNIS-RIVA-120490

Edit - An even easier to access color that looks almost JUST like it is at Walmart. It's by Hard Candy and is called Sky. Here's a comparison:
http://www.vampyvarnish.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Sky-vs-Riva.jpg
Not my picture. Pointer and ring finger is the Hard Candy polish and the middle and pinky are the Chanel polish.

does dollar general sell those nail art pens ?

Becca

I want to do polka dot nails . I already have the main color & I need a white for the polka dots.

so basically what i'm asking,
1) does DG have nails art pens? white ones, specifically.
2) would it be easier to use a nail art pen or to use nail polish from a bottle. (I don't have any white nail polish , so pretty much I'm saying nail art pen or regular white nail polish?) & if you do say bottle, how do I get tiny little dots?

Answer
1. I believe so and I think Dollar Tree has some too, but I don't think they have the pen ones only the bottle with the brush nail art ones.
2. If you want the pen then Walgreens/CVS will have them.

* I think it's easier to do with the bottle but I've never tried the pen at the nail shop they use a tool called a "dotter" it makes perfect dots you can buy these at a nail supply store for $1-3 and you just need polish. All you have to do is drop a 3D drop of nail polish on paper or something to hold it and dip the dotter in it and on your nails.

How can you make nail polish thinner and easier to spread? It is only one month old.?

Carrie

I have only used it about eight times. Can I add nail polish remover to loosen it up?

Answer
You NEVER want to use nail polish remover to thin your polish. It's remover for a reason. It's meant to remove nail polish, and it can wreck the polish if you add it. The ingredients aren't the same, and it's also not good to have things like acetone on your nails. Don't EVER mix remover into your polish. They sell nail polish thinner. You can get it at Sally Beauty Supply. I use a brand called Beauty Secrets and it works great and is cheap!! Here's a link to it online, but you can also buy it in the store:

How long does nail polish last?

...

I really want to buy a back up of OPI Teenage Dream. How long will it last if I keep it unopened until I'm done with my first bottle?

Answer
Look at your nail polish bottle. There should be a little symbol/icon that looks like a tub with a number on it then an M after it with the lid coming off. The number means how many months it will last. My OPI Shatter says it lasts for 24 months-2 years. So maybe that's how long yours will last. I would buy a back up if I were you, but only if you use Teenage Dream nail polish a lot. It will take a while to run out, just keep that in mind<3

best kind of nail polish remover?

i

Answer
I really like the ones that come in the jar that you just stick your finger right into, i find they are super strong and can get nail polish off super fast - i forget the name of them but just look for a jar with a pic on the front of it showing a finger going in, any drug store has them.

What happens if you eat nail polish?

TurdbeasT

I have a grill(those things you put over your teeth with diamonds lol) it's obviously fake and I just wear it for fun everynow and then but anyway sum of the jewels fell out and so I put a tiny drop of clear nail polish in the groves to hold the jewels in. Is it okay to put in my mouth? What will happen?

Btw I'm already 100% sure the jewels and metal is completely safe. So yea I'm just concerned about the nail polish.

Answer
Well - it's certainly not two of the basic elements of a good meal, but neither of these are "good for you". The nail polish is potentially dangerous but, if you're eating dried nail polish off your fingernails, you probably aren't getting enough for it to be instantly toxic. Read the Nail Polish jar for cautions.

As to paper -- it's not harmful unless you eat a lot of it, but it's not helping anything.
Eating things like this falls under the category of an eating disorder. I would strongly recommend you discuss this with your doctor, or an appropriate counsellor.

This falls under a condition called PICA and may be a sign of nutritional deficit. You should discuss this with a doctor.

How to do nail art with nail polish?

Bianca R

Im wanting to do some nail art but idk what tools to use ?and what is the very fine nail brush called and were can I buy it. Also what base polish should I use before any color goes on my nail and what top coat should I use

Answer
The tools used to do nail art are varied and depend on what you are doing.
For example, if you want to do a watermarble you'll need an orange stick (or a needle), a cup, water and nail polishes that spread quite easily on the surface of the water.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OO3NO29L50U
If you want to do dots, a dotting tool is the required. (you can make your own by using materials you have at home. This video teaches you how to do one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mHNAS0CpPo )
If you want to do marbling you'll need a thin brush or a needle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlK0yrIOq4c
Foils are a handy tool to have around.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tL6isZZaC1A&feature=channel_video_title
If you want to do fancy stuff like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGoCUmZiKYk You'll need acrylic paints.

I think the name of the brush is striper. Is it one of this? http://www.8ty8beauty.com/nail-art/images/nail-art-striper.gif You can buy it on ebay or amazon. There are some nail polishes that have a striper instead of a normal brush. the most common brands are 'kiss' and 'art deco'.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=nail+art+stripers&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=7736329326&ref=pd_sl_7ug49gskrp_b

The base polish is called base coat and it is very important, especially if you paint your nails very frequently. Here's an article explaining why you should use it.
http://www.essortment.com/nail-basics-use-base-coat-60192.html
Most of them are pinkish and it does make a difference.

I always use a regular top coat. However, if I'm using a konad design, I prefer to use their special top coat and when I'm using foil I tend to use top coat for foils.

How to clean my nail art brushes?

Winnie

I just bought a black nail striper from orly (otherwise known as INSTANT ARTIST) and since it's my only striper I thought that I could maybe use the same brush and dip it into a china glaze yellow polish. Then (since it was a light color) I thought I could just stick the yellowed striper back to its original black container without cleaning it because i knew the black color wouldn't change and thought it would be okay. And it was.....until the next day. After a night went by I looked at the black striper and the brush was all hard and isn't they same, the weird thing is that the actual black polish is still perfectly fine. I also tried to clean the brush with nail polish remover but it didn't work.

I know that it was probably the mixing of two different brands, but I've done it with other nail polishes before and it was fine! Does anyone know how to clean a nail polish brush off? I would love to know because this my new polish and my mom doesn't want to buy me a new one. Thank you!

Oh yes and if you also know what went wrong please explain so I won't ever do it again.

Answer
When you mix nail polish doesn't matter who makes it you are caking the tiny hairs on the brush making it hard. Every brush is made from different material when making the bristles, some bristles are thinner than others and finer. Since you dipped and reused then put it back it just made the hardening worse on the bristle material. The addition of acetone which dries out anything also could have contributed to the caking. The bristles to be cleaned should have been wiped off first then washed with soap and water anyou should have then spread the small bristles out with your fingers so that when the brush did dry each bristle dried individually because you didn't it doesn't work making the brush useless.Sometimes it's also good to take your fingers and find lumps of hardened polish and pull it off the outer bristles then the inner. As for the finger nail polish remover don't use it again like I said it drys out the bristles making it a better environment for caking of the bristles. If you cannot get the brush to work keep it capped but use other brushes when using that polish remember to clean the brushes after every single use.

It's all in the creativity. :) Good Luck.
