Question about matte nail polish?

If you com

Is matte nail polish just a clear coat you put over top of a color, to make it look matte? Or is it acutally a color itself..like you buy it and its matte color? And where do I find this stuff at? Thanks :)

Answer
you can get matte nail polish....its just nail polish that dries matte instead of shiny. but you can also get clear top coats that make normal nail polish look matte, im not sure which brands have this, its not very common. some brands that have matte nail polish are:
revlon
BYS
MAC
OPI
Zoya
Sparitual
Orly

Does anyone know of a matte gray nail polish?

I have been looking for a gray nail polish without any shine to it. I want it to be a medium gray. So preferably right in between white and black. However, other shades of gray are considerable. Please do not answer with a recommendation of a store or brand that might have it or another color that you like. I want for the exact name or number of the nail polish you recommend.

There are a few options-

Manglaze makes a beautiful gray matte, Fuggen Ugly.
Here is a picture of how it looks- http://thenailphile.blogspot.com/2009/01/man-glaze.html
And here is where you can purchase it- http://www.manglaze.com/buy.html

Zoya's fall collection includes a grey matte, Loredana.

And I don't think it has been released yet, but you can pre order it here- http://www.artofbeauty.com/scrpt/scr.dll/Item?Item=4141&brand=2&d=Zoya_Nail_Polish_|_Loredana_-_Matte

OPI has recently releasd a line of other colors of theirs as mattes. One of these is called You Don't Know Jacques. It is kind of a muddy grey color, but it is nice and kind of different from a lot of mattes out there.

If you can manage to get a hold of it, Maybelline released a LOVELY grey matte years ago. You can hunt it down online or in dollar trees.

Another option you have is a matte topcoat over any gray polish you have already. You use this instead of your usual topcoat on any polish and voila! You have a lovely matte finish!

I think Essie's works the best and here is a picture of the results-

Here is where you can buy it- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002G3K1TY/ref=asc_df_B002G3K1TY850618?smid=A2V1VG2SHXFCAX&tag=yahoo-beauty-mp-20&linkCode=asn

Nubar makes one that looks good, but not quite as matte as Essie's.

Where you can buy it- http://www.bynubar.com/store/products/V_For_Men_Matte_Finish_Top_Coat-572-0.html

Orly also makes one, but I would steer clear of this one! It gives a satin finish, not matte at all!
