My friend gave me a bunch of nailpolish's his mom was throwing out, and then the next day he told me not to use them because she has toe fungus. Can i even contract toe fungus through nail polish?

Nail polish doesn't usually go off, it has no sell by date. But it can go dry and separate and become gooey, but it doesn't mean that it's not safe to use, just means it's awkward to use.

Are you sure that you didn't somehow mix a silver coloured nail polish in with it? Like use the same brush? I've never once known/heard nail polish getting fungus.
